Mr. Junk Haul just saved my day. Imagine this: I'm moving. Out of the state. Today. Sold the house, packed my stuff, going, going, about to be gone! We scheduled a "bulky pickup" from the trash company, Republic Services. They give you two bulky pickups a year *as a courtesy*, and that's the key part. You can't actually say, pay for a third bulky pickup, because they don't actually do this as a service. They do it *as a courtesy*, just because they're nice. And so today, the day we are LEAVING THE STATE, we had a scheduled bulky pickup service, and a pile of junk at the end of our driveway. And then we got a phone call this morning from Republic Services. Due to coronavirus, they are canceling all bulky pickup service, as it is not considered an "essential service" out of safety concerns for their workers. But. . .but. . . but. . . there's a pike of junk at the end of my driveway. People are going through it, tearing open my garbage bags to see what I'm throwing out. It's getting dangerous out there, and I'm leaving today, and it's going to what. . .just stay there? Indefinitely? They suggested I could self-haul it to the Fremont dump, except the dump is closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays, and only open on Wednesdays through Fridays, AND I'M LEAVING THE STATE TODAY. What to do? I suggested to Republic Services that they should honor their already-scheduled pickups and just cancel scheduling new pickups. The lady on the phone was really nice. She explained that she understood my suggestion, but that I should be aware that the trucks are not rolling, the drivers are union, and they aren't going to be picking up my scheduled bulky pickup. She said "You need to find a different solution." --and she was right, of course. I googled "Fremont junk hauling" and in the little map that shows up there was a star right over Fremont. It was Mr. Junk Haul. I called. Got the voicemail. I left my name and number and said "I have a pile of junk in my driveway." --and then prayed (and I'm not religious). Mr. Junk Haul called me back right away. I texted him a photo of my junk pile, and he got back to me right away with a quote. I accepted, and he showed up in about an hour to make my junk problem GO AWAY. Such pleasant service. I explained to him what a pickle I was in, and how he literally just saved my move.
