I called Mr Handyman after our basement flooded during a recent storm. Speaking to a company representative, I learned that they don't provide estimates, but would send out a handyman who will assess the work to be done. If that rep doesn't have the supplies on hand to fix the problem, they will - on your dime - head out to purchase needed supplies. There was no indication the handyman would have any expertise in the situation that you're experiencing, but you'll pay for the visit and time it takes to figure out if they can do the job with any sense of proficiency. If you want a room painted or a door hung, this might be a potential vendor. Storm damage remediation, call a company that specializes in storm damage, waterproofing, etc. I canceled our appointment after I realized I might be paying for someone to visit that may not have the expertise required to remediate the problem. read more

I had two ceiling drywall repairs that needed to be done and a front door that needed to be replaced. The drywall was repaired with drywall I furnished, but there was a mess left for me to clean. Nothing was put back where it was, dust and drywall mud on the floor and sink. And now the bathroom light fixture is hanging down loose from the ceiling. Guess that is on me to fix the light. The guy could not find a normal sized door (left hand, in swing) at Home Depot so I told him to try Lowes. He brought one back to my house which had dents in it (brand new). I told him to return it and cancelled the door replacement. So I had to pay for him to shop, bring a door to my house, and then return it. Not a lot of service for $836. read more

ServPro came into my home and cut a 5 foot x 4 hole in my ceiling to 'repair' a 1.5 foot water stain, then spent the entire next day trying to install drywall before literally giving up and all but admitting they couldn't fix it, then slapped me with a $700+ bill for mold restoration after the technician admitted to my wife there was no mold. Crooks. I was absolutely enraged. Then I found Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County. They promptly dispatched a highly professional drywall technician who apologized when my wife told him the story and then said 'I guess this is hard work for some people, but not for me'. He wasn't kidding. He provided my wife with periodic updates, was kind and courteous; and wouldn't you know it -- came in UNDER what they original thought they had to charge me to remediate. Matching a butchered popcorn ceiling is not an easy task, but he did it to a very high level. After paint I honestly could not tell there was previously a hole in my ceiling and he took less than half a day to complete what ServPro couldn't complete in 8 hours. Every single person I spoke to during this job was beyond professional, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make me happy. DO NOT HIRE!!! That was the craziest experience. The job that was estimated to take 4-5hours ended up being 11 hours and 15 minutes! How on earth is that possible? How can 1 fixture can take 1hour and 45minutes to install? Considering that the old one was already removed and everything was ready for installation? It's insane. I took many estimates before and everyone told me it's maximum 30 minutes for removal and install for this particular one. The whole job according to other estimates as well as to the one I received from worker from Mr. Handyman (and ended up being 11hours 15minutes) should have been 4-5hours. And of course in my mind I was prepared for it to be 6 or even 7hours. But 11.15? That's just insane. And the worst part is when you can't really do anything about it. I can't make the worker work faster and I'm not going to fight with him. I'm assuming that person knows what he is doing and if he said he will do his best to do it as quickly as possible and will try to finish the whole project in 4 hours and it ended up being 11.15. That's just not right. I would have never hired him if I knew what I was getting myself into. And let me be clear, it's not because there was something unexpected it's purely of extremely slow, slow work process. But when you pay hourly that's just not honest to do it to the clients. I don't recommend it to anyone unless you want to end up paying 2-3 times more then you expected. And in my case it went up to 1500$ instead of 500-600$ read more

I had Mr. Handyman come out and try and fix my sliding glass door that wasn't sliding. After their temporary fix it worked for about a week and was then as bad as before. They charged me $150 for one hour of labor and no materials and when I complained that it was broken after a week they were only willing to bring my bill down to $100. I ended up getting a day laborer who fixed it for about $45 and it works REALLY good now. I spoke with the owner and really wanted him to get my bill down to at least $50. But, he was unwilling to go under $100. When I told him I got a day laborer who did a permanent fix on it for $45 he complained about having to compete with immigrants from 3rd world countries who are willing to work for low wages but he warned me that they might burn my house down. I told him that the day laborer that worked for me was a former business owner in his "third world" country with nine employees and that I trusted him. The owner of the company said he has 3 kids he has to support and so that is why he has to charge more. To that, I responded that I have 2 kids and 1 on the way. So I generally try to go with the cheapest option that gets the job done. Anyway, overall nice people, but they didn't fix my problem and still charged me $100. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about this company. First of all, Liz is one of the most amazing customer service representatives I've ever had the pleasure of talking to. She's always friendly and willing to help get you an appointment that works with your schedule. I have had several techs come out and do work for me - everything from power washing, painting, screen replacement, roofing work, and miscellaneous projects too. They are efficient, friendly, and very professional. As if that isn't enough, my HOA didn't get me information I needed until this morning and I close on Wednesday morning. One day my garbage disposal decided it wasn't going to work anymore, I wasn't able to drive to get a new one, so I called Mr Handyman, filled out my info online, they were very quick to call me back, very pleasant woman named Liz. within an hour or so, one of their techs (Charles) was here. He went to pick up the disposal, even gave me the choice to buy one myself, and they would install to save me money, due to not being able to drive, I had him pick it up. Later he came back to install it, had it done in a very timely manner, a very pleasant man. I then asked him to look at some other projects I needed done for a later date, he took the time to look, then gave me an estimate. Great company to work with.
