This place is a real hole in the wall. I mean, it's just really rundown looking on the inside. Lots of random signage. However the food is simply great. Disregard the random sign, saying no eggrolls three times. The food is simply amazing. Also, they are now cash only. To begin with ... we were under doctor's orders to visit this place. And bay-bee, the doctor is always right! Story time ... My husband and I had our quarterly visit with our doctor. We could do a lot better, but, who can't, right. While we were there, her sister called her to ask what she wanted for dinner (we're VERY close to our doctor ). It sounded so good, we asked where and what she was getting. The rest was kismet. If sunshine was a sandwich it would come from Mr. Corned Beef! To begin with, the place was amazingly clean. I didn't expect otherwise. But at 5:00 in the afternoon, I didn't know what to expect. It rarely strikes me how clean a place can the way this one struck me. My reviews will always begin with the service. Because, if the service isn't good, no matter how well prepared, the food will not be good. Shaniqua was fabulous at "hello". I explained to her that we were sent by my doctor with orders to just order "the little" corned beef. Shaniqua explained the sizes, and welllllll. Don't tell the doctor. When I finished ordering, Shaniqua informed me that when I come again, they have soul food dinners, buy one, get one free. Wait, what? (Shaniqua, why didn't you lead with that ). It only took 20 minutes. Loaded with bags of oh-my-god smells from heaven, what would normally had been a 20- minute ride to home, took 5! So, unless you're okay with sharing, the doctor was right ... get the little corned beef. Two bites of my PLAIN corned beef on rye, and I'm ready for nappy time. This is the most tender, lean corned beef. (I absolutely abhor fat.) The two dinners I got for us for tomorrow. Yeah right. Somebody's grandma is back there peeling yams and cleaning greens. A welfare check might be in order. Pimp is "double-fisting" his corned beef with Russian dressing on onion roll. I asked him how it was. He growled like the dogs do when you get too close to them gnawing on a big bone. If I would take anything away from the experience, I'd snip off the tips of two of the points of the fifth star: 1) Parking (none) 2) No dine in. (Probably due to parking, LOL) Thanks Dr. T. First, I must qualify this review. The food deserved 5 stars. I had to count off 2 stars due to the physical facilities. The reason why I had to count off a few stars is because this place had open tiles in the ceiling in the kitchen area. And through those open tiles, you can easily see insulation batting hanging loose. It was dirty and hanging out over the kitchen. Insulation batting has fibers which break loose and float about in the air. This threatens the health of the kitchen workers who could breath in the insulation fibers. It also violates health code for food prep area, because it potentially contaminates the food. Should they get their ceiling fixed; so that, it is safer in the kitchen. I could very well see raising the number of stars that they earn. This is the only real deficit of the place. Now, the reason why I say that this place deserves more stars and I hope that they correct their problems with their physical facilities. The place is full of friendly employees. It is in a neighborhood with a local bicycle club which makes a run to the place in a group; so, it appears to have inspired the loyalty of the locals. Friendly food places which inspire the loyalty of the local customer base is something that diners should look for. It means that they know how to treat their customers. And it means that they have good food. People in the neighborhood come here even though it is set up entirely for take out orders, because they know that they will be treated right. And then, the last reason why I say that this place deserves more stars and I hope that they correct their problems with their physical facilities is the food. The Ruben sandwich and the corned beef sandwich both are full of flavor. Both of them are juicy. And both of their large versions individually are large enough to make a meal for either 2 people or individually for one person to have 2 meals. You can get some really good sandwiches from this place that are large, juicy and full of flavor. You get MORE than you money's worth from this place with just the food alone, and that is yet another reason why the locals come here. Delicious! I was in the area and starving so I checked Yelp and came across Mr. Corned Beef. The reviews were really good but I was debating between this and another spot - I almost went to the other place, but I'm so glad I decided to go here! Simple menu: corned beef sandwiches and subs- straight to the point. They know what they are good at and I can appreciate that. I had the regular corned beef. You can choose between Swiss and American, onion roll or rye and your choice of condiments. The corned beef was great - not fatty or chewy at all! Tender and flavorful. Eat it right away, because since the roll is so soft, it will get soggy (can't really prevent that though). Good customer service and clean as well. My only suggestion would be to maybe have fries. That would've been good paired with the sandwich. I love to support family owned mom and pop shops. I rarely write reviews, but I also rarely enjoy a sandwich as much as one. This purpose of this review is actually two-fold. I ordered a corned beef on rye and potato salad online through Postmates. It wasn't until after I ordered that I realized how far away the restaurant actually was. I was surprised they delivered so far away. I mentally made a note that I'd be waiting a long time for my order AND to add a couple more bucks to the delivery boy to help with his gas (Postmate delivery people have to pay for their own gas). I settled down assuming I'd be waiting quite a while. Was I ever wrong! He rolled in about 25 minutes later. He was very pleasant and very appreciative when I mentioned the extra tip money due to the extra gas. Upon opening the bag, I was shocked! I had ordered the extra large sandwich. Reaching into the bag, I quickly realized the sandwich was too hot and too heavy to lift out of the bag! O had to actually cut the bag. The sandwich was HUGE - large enough to eat half tonight and have enough to make a corned beef omelet for breakfast AND still make a sandwich for lunch! The sandwich was amazing. Once it cooled down and I could actually pick it up I noticed there was no fat, no grizzle - just lean juicy meat. Without a doubt, the best corned beef I've ever had!
