Very good fish and chips... Just like at the seaside. The restaurant is pricier than the take away…read morebut worth it for the freshness.

I went there for lunch today(Sat)…read more I quite like the place. It is a simple cafe / bistro old deco which gives you a welcoming feel. Waiter is very friendly. The menu is really simple. There are various starters which I think consist of prawns, large prawns or crabs. Then for main you can get either steak or chicken, or fish (depends on what they get they will put what they have on the board) and chips. And pay a little bit extra for any other side dish. I like this because it means they are only doing what they do best. For 2 adults and a toddler we ordered a seafood platter(as main), fish(cod) and chips, and grill salmons and chips. The Seafood platter contains prawns, large prawns and crab meat sitting on a iceberg lettuce salad with onions and pepper. This is some of the best prawns / crab we have had for a long long time. The prawns are so sweet that it is almost like fruit from the sea. The crab is nice and the whole thing goes very well with the salad and dressing (is it thousand island?) The cod for the main was very fresh too. The batter was thin and the cod was top quality and so as the salmon. The only thing I dont like is the chips is not as crisp as it can be and it is still a bit oily though it inside is soft is fluffy enough. And the skin of the salmon was ruin because the was left on the grill for too long (but maybe this is deliberate?), the meat is beautiful though. And for all these we paid 30 quid (exclude drink) which I think is reasonable. There is also takeaway and I will definitley try it and come back to this place again!

You'll get it all and more at J. Coxedge: 5 or so fish types, chicken or sausage, you'll come hungry and leave full. And all this for not too many pence--amazing! Kids meals of all the favorites are nice as well, and of course they have mushy peas. This place made our month's stay in Stone a tad more pleasant, and we'll return as we're able.

Can't go wrong with a sav - only if it's done in a microwave. Am I being too fussy? This is a shameless plug for the place I used to work for when I was at school... I have to say it has spoiled me as I I have become some what of a fish and chip shop snob. A family run business for the past 40 odd years has a nice, friendly atmosphere where time is often taken to chat and get to know the customers many of whom are locals. The most famous regular being Len Goodman from Strictly :) Foodwise, this is how a fish and chip shop should be. There's a wide selection of traditional chip shop food available from your standard cod to rollmops and skate. From burger to calamares and scallops. Vegeburgers to battered king prawns and sweet chilli sauce. All the fish is freshly bought from Billingsgate Market all cut up and de-boned by the boss man. Spuds are brought in weekly, peeled and chipped by staff. Not only do you have all this but you get a wide selection of fresh seafood, cockles, oysters, lobster you name it. AND if there's something that you want and they don't have it, they'll be sure to get it for you for when you next come in. What more can you ask for? Sooo if you're in the area come in and check it out :)

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!
