What can you say about the traditional Olde English "Fish and Chips"? Always the same? The same old stuff? It's had its day? They only do one thing? Perhaps The golden fish is worth a visit then? As the privious reviewer has said the golden fish has officially been voted the best fish and ship shop in Britain, and with good reason. Yes, it's traditional, and has a friendly and inviting atmosphere. When I visited the staff were very friendly with my Dad and had an excellent rapport with all the customers. We sat down in a booth; and ordered our fish and chips. My Dad had plaice and I had cod. We waited about 10 minutes and everything was piping hot. I don't know what they put into the batter but it was delcious and crispy, the chips were just as good too. The prices were very reasonable the plaice and chips (as of today) were £6.95 and my medium cod and chips were £7.99. Not including drinks. I believe the prices are cheaper to take away. They do have a range of fish and chips, not only the cod and chips that everyone seems to have. They also sell rock, cod roe, skate and haddock....Along with the old favourites of saveloy, pies (of various types), chicken and sausage rolls. There's room for about 30 people to sit and eat in the restaurant, but they do supply a take away menu too. I'm posting some pictures of the inside, our food and the menu for poeple to take a look. So in my opinion this is some of the best fish and chips around, and has been voted the best in the country! So if you're in the mood for some British culture and want the best food, you can't do better than the golden fish! I'll see you there!

They give you a HUGE piece of fish that is quite meaty, even for the small portion. The batter they use is very tasty. There is no tables to sit at, so I usually do take out. I've been here like 5-6 times whilst living in Romford. The chips are cut to large for my taste but the fish makes up for it.

Which to be fair didn't make sense as anyway as park lane chippy is really nice Last night I went to get my 2 year old boy sausage and chips before taking him trick or treating to find that when I got home my son bit into a red raw sausage still frozen in the middle. When I called to explain what happened the boss wouldn't come to the phone, which then meant I had to walk all the way back to the chip shop with the raw sausage still on the plate, out of pure respect when I got there I waited for customers to leave the shop which I thought was good of me .... when they see that the sausage was raw, all they could come up with, was replace the food. I'm sure anyone would agre, that isn't compensating me for the inconvenience and the fact my son could and still get ill and the walk I had to do, what they should have done is apologied for the fact they give my son a raw sausage and refunded my money and give me food on the house for the sheer inconvenience Instead they would rather lose a customer and be reporting to Havering food hygiene . Not getting away with this
