We treated ourselves to both Mr. Arepa and Mr. Baker at this location. The hype doesn't seem to be real. We ordered something as basic as Cachapa with Pollo and a Media Noche. Let's start with the cachapa, melty, decently flavored chicken and the cachapa itself could be a little sweeter. But my reason for the lack of stars is going more towards the Mr. Baker side. The media noche was not all that. The pork was the driest and most flavorless part and isn't that supposed to be the star of the show?! If you are in search of a delicious pabellón or Carne mechada empanada in Miami Lakes/ Hialeah area, search no more ! Mr. Arepa has you covered ! My favorite is the pabellón! When you top it with aioli and their hot sauce it is amazing ! Now, they don't always remember to give you enough sauces for your order. But when I bite into that pabellón empanada I forgive the fact I didn't get all the sauce my heart desired. read more

Little hole in the wall, doing squared arepas, big sized empanadas and delicious tequeñitos. Some of the tables are decorated with a game called Ludo. Which gave us a little time to play while we waited for our food. Ludo is basically the same as Sorry. The two persons working tonight were very friendly and knowledgeable. Came here to grab a quick empanada. When I was about to pay the cashier asked for $8 and I questioned why. She said I had ordered an arepa (I don't like arepas so I knew that was not it). I asked if I could get an empanada(like I ordered). Cashier then asked me what should she do with the arepa? I told her I was not sure. She then continued to tell me that she would have to pay for it. Last I checked it wasn't great customer service to make a customer feel guilty about something that wasn't even their fault. I then proceeded just to pay for the arepa because at this point I felt bad for the cashier and pretty irritated that this conversation was going on too long. I threw it out right outside. No luck with this specific location (Miami Lakes). The employees at this location are arrogant, incompetent and with NO customer service manners. The store is always lacking items from the menu. The employees are never apologetic and if two customers come in at a time they don't know what to do with themselves. The woman that works the morning shift can care less about customers. Went in for some empanadas and a soda and it took me almost 20 minutes to get them. On the menu the empanadas were clearly 2.90 and they charged me 4$ each. I went yesterday for their soft opening. The arepas are delicious, and the staff was friendly. They walk their customers through the process and are also very patient, and also make excellent recommendations for first time customers. The prices are reasonable. Because it was the soft opening. The location did not have much else to offer other than arepas. But hey? At least the main thing they sell is on point. I can't wait to see other things like empanadas or natural juices come soon. If you're just like me and grew up eating arepas that our Colombian/ Venezuelan mom would make, or even if it's your first time, I Highly recommend going to MR. I ordered takeout from this place and it was OK. I ordered a steak cachapa which I had mixed feelings about. To begin, the size was nice. The churrasco in it was perfectly cooked, a nice temperature and very tasty and well-seasoned. The actual cachapa was good, but not very flavorful. There is not much to cachapas so that didn't bother me. The thing that ruined it for me was all the sauce of lords know what that was poured over it. I really hate these places that try to play so much on this street food idea that they just pour a bunch of junk together. Without the bland weird cream sauce and maybe excessive amount of cheese inside, I would have enjoyed this much more. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad cachapa. But their way of being "extra" actual did the opposite to the taste experience. I will probably try something different on the menu next time and see how a regular arepa fares here. read more

Last night on my way to work I stopped by one of the most reputable arepa spots in Miami craving a reina pepiada. It wasn't bad but my craving was far from met. (I make a better one at home, I'm not Venezuelan) This afternoon, on my way home from work I stop by the shopping center and and the 'Mr. Arepa' sign catches my attention (never heard of it). I'm zero hungry but felt like my craving needed a redemption from my mediocre arepa the night before. I walk in with my fingers crossed, especially because it's the only Venezuelan spot in my neighborhood, hoping they have reina pepiada. HO.LY. SH.*T! That arepa filled that void of reina pepiadas I've had for weeks!!! I'm no food critic so don't expect a description of flavors. All you need to know is that it was f***ing spectacular!!!! They also let me try la salsa verde y la salsa tartara which both were incredibly full of flavor. I will be returning ASAP, and next time for a cachapa. (please blow me away) They're a brand new business (opened two days ago) so country club, let's show them some love to keep them part of the community! The only thing I think needs help is greeting customers. I didn't get one or get acknowledged until about a minute after walking in. Greetings go a longgg way. We are a family of arepa fanatics let me say Mr.Arepa is the best arepa and empanada restaurant in the Hialeah/Miami lakes area by far. If I could give it a 10 star I would. The staff is polite and welcoming. It was our first time so they took their time to explain the menu. My kids are picky eater and they absolutely loved it.
