We searched for the best burger in Columbus, Wisconsin, for lunch and ended up in at MP's Town Tap. We were venturing to Columbus because my favorite place, Olive and Herb, moved to Columbus from Sun Prairie, and I needed to stock up on my vintage aged balsamic vinegar. We were greeted with a bunch of happiness. The people running the bar at the time we arrived, were so welcoming and hilarious. I love the cook's sense of humor, as well as anyone else that showed up after we arrived into this establishment. It definitely had a hometown feel vibe. My husband ordered the Ultimate Bloody Mary. It was ultimate, with a grilled cheese sandwich, pickles, onion rings, pearled onions, shrimp, olives, banana pepper, olives, sausage and cheese. That was huge, and a meal within itself. I just ordered a regular Bloody Mary. I knew we were there to have a hamburger. I have to say, that it was a food in a glass, so I did partake in half of the grilled cheese. We ordered our single burgers after a while, but forgot to mention how we wanted them cooked. We like them medium rare, but they turned out just below that and good. My husband estimated them at a half pound burger. It looks like an unassuming burger, and nothing fancy, but a decent, bar burger. We would have ordered extras, such as fries, etc., but that Bloody Mary extras filled us up. We will go back and visit this establishment, if we wander into Columbus, Wisconsin again. It's a nice friendly place to have a decent priced meal. I would give the staff a five star review. read more

As usual the burgers were grilled to perfection with the right amount of char and medium rare as ordered. Fixing were fresh, lettuce crispy, onion strong & tomato was a thick cut. Soup flight was awesome! Got to try 3 soups for the price of one bowl and enjoy them all! Always friendly staff & quick service. Clean bar & comfortable stools. This is the first time we did not just pick up our meal, but sat inside at the bar. We aren't drinkers but noticed others must of been there for the food also as they sipped their sodas. I had a lemon aid that was refreshing. They have specials every night and we happed to stop in on Taco Tuesday. I originally was gunning for Asian food but hubby was t feeling it and I was not in the mood for Mexican. So, I ordered the MP pizza Special. I liked the crispy crust and the pizza hit the spot with cheesy goodness, sausage and pepperoni, mushroom and onions. My husband opted for the 4/$5 taco special with a soft shell. He offered one to me while I was waiting for my pizza and I thought it was pretty tasty with a good amount of meat filling topped with chunky salsa. I have had their soups before and they are always delicious. We had also tried a pizza special that was a taco pizza and their burgers and fries. I had some time to kill while waiting for the Amtrak train and this place was a block away so I thought I would get a crappy domestic can of beer judging by the out side of the place. It looks like your average small town dive bar at first glance. The place is bigger on the inside than it looks and is kind of like a wannabe cowboy bar with pool tables, flat screens, darts, gambling machines, kitchen/grill etc. Wagon wheel chandeliers hang over the bar with wood paneling on the walls. There is a kitchen so you can order food while your there. To my surprise when I sat at the bar I saw tap handles that were not the regular domestic options, thank you. The shock top Belgian white would be my choice today and to my surprise it was served in a frosted glass, thank you. The woman working the bar was on point and as my glass got low she made sure I had another one. It seemed like a nice neighborhood hang out where everyone knows each other. I had no problem killing some time in this place. read more

My wife and I had a weird weekend where the first restaurant we would go to would be busy and ignore us. There's no chance of that happening at Towne Tap. I can't imagine a place with friendlier people and the amazing bartender we had. She had a busy place she was handling herself, cooking, pizzas, tending bar, she did it all. Our burgers were exceptional, they look to make their own patties here and they were great. Their menu is your standard bar fare with the addition of a large number of soups to choose from. Prices are very reasonable, we were in on karaoke night and ended up having our best evening out in quite some time. This place is far from your common "dive bar" that some might want to label it. The food was great, the price was right, but it's the people, both staff and patrons at Towne Tap that made it wonderful. read more

Stopped for lunch and a couple of drinks after visiting the antique museum in town - so glad we did. This place is quite large with a nice, wrap around bar so there is plenty of seating. They had a nice crowd when we got there and filled up quickly. We were greeted and served almost immediately. Very pleasantly surprised at the soup choices - I swear they had 10+. Went with the daily special of a grilled cheese with a cup of soup. We were really hungry so we opted for some hot wings as well. The soup came out SUPER hot - too hot to enjoy. I chose the cheeseburger bacon macaroni soup while my husband had the bacon potato soup. I expected them both to be rich but mine was a little too much, almost like eating a cheese dip rather than soup. The other soup was very good. The grilled cheese sandwiches were perfect; crispy with the right amount of cheese (your choice, too!). The wings, on the other hand, were pretty disappointing. They were heavily, heavily breaded and all the "hot" was on the chicken meat itself. I liked the flavor but there was just way too much breading - even my husband pulled it off so he could eat them. The service here is great - everyone seems to pitch in wherever they can. The woman that was cooking stepped away from the grill to help with the bar more than once. They certainly make you feel welcome. I'm sure we'll be back whenever we visit the antique museum. read more

My wife and I stopped in here while passing through, hungry for good cheese curds, and dinner. I got the regular cheeseburger, and cheese curds, and at the recommendation of a local gentleman my wife got their potato bacon soup that the owner's wife makes. We were both thoroughly impressed. The food was amazing! Cheese curds are top notch, and that soup (though it didn't sound good to me) was excellent. The locals are friendly, if not a total riot. I talked for several hours to an old man about motorcycles, over a few beers. The bartender (Frank?) is an older guy with a unique sense of humor that is quite entertaining and puts you at ease. At the end of the night when the bill came, I was shocked at how cheap everything had been! Excellent prices. Just stopped by for a quick lunch on our way to West Bend. Easy quick bar menu posted on the wall with daily lunch specials along with soup of the day choices. Kind of dive bar feel that I love where all the locals go. Had to have 2 bloody Mary's cause the first was so good. Split a cheese burger with my wife and wished I had my own it was so good.
