I came back to Mpower in June 2016 after getting an excellent massage back in 2014 (don't ask me why it took me so long to go back). I recently got back into endurance athletics and was in the midst of a 7-month training program for Ironman Lake Placid. I had tried a few places on the Upper East Side (where I live), and didn't find a place/masseuse that hit my problem areas (legs and a hip injury) or went deep enough to achieve the restoration feeling one is supposed to have after a sports massage. Thankfully I remembered Gregory and Mpower, and was able to get two phenomenal sessions in before the race. He listened to me/my body and provided the massage work I needed -- after both sessions, I had excellent workouts the following days. I completed my Ironman in a time that exceeded my goals, and I know the massage work played a role in this achievement. I will continue to go back to Mpower now that I've found a place that gives me the physical/mental results I'm looking for and will refer the studio to teammates/friends/family! read more

I love this place! I recently bought a groupon for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. I was a little thrown off when I called to make the appointment and was told that only the newer portion of their staff was reserved for voucher massages, but I made the appointment and hoped for the best. Boy was it worth it! I ended up with Melissa, who took time before my massage to discuss any problem areas I had, and then asked if I wanted her to only focus on those areas or do a full body massage with emphasis there. The massage was fantastic, and we were in constant communication about comfort and pressure. She seemed very methodical and sure of herself. My massage started and ended on time, and the heated massage table was a nice touch. All in all, a great experience, and I definitely see myself going back (and maybe even paying full price!) read more

Best deep tissue massage I've had in a LONG time. They're clearly trained and know how to hit the right points, not like the cheap greasy Asian tui-niu massages. You can make reservations online which was seemless. There was more communication than I'm used to, but that turned out to be a positive as I could interrupt and tell the masseuse that the pressure wasn't strong enough on the hands for instance. Also, she was very attentive and followed my request to really focus on specific areas while ignoring others. Not a lux spa. But would definitely come here if I really need a medical, therapeutic massage. For first time clients, you guy buy one get one free, so a no brainer to me (well, you have to use 2nd visit within 10 days of first one). read more

Aimee gave me the best massage of my life. I'm a believer. Also, new customers get a second massage free (details are on the website). Great great great. I have a weird jaw pain thing, and she did all kinds of magical things to try and help it. And every other part of the massage was amazing. I'll be back. read more

I'm now officially OBSESSED with deep tissue massage from Tanya. But I'll tell you about her in a moment. I'm sooooo glad I've found Massage America!!! Their philosophy is natural & healing; I was taken back to San Francisco and the simplicity of pure, forward-thinking wellness centers. Dr. Mark Hyman's 'Ultra Prevention' book was on the table ('functional medicine' is the wave of the future) & even their filtered, ionized water is served in glass-glasses rather than toxic plastic. And if you've been reading about how toxic our world has become, you'll know these are the types of little things that show a person or place truly knows 'health' from the inside out. But back to Tanya... AMAZE. I cannot tell you how out-of-this world the massage was. She intuitively hit every spot that needed pressure and used unique elbow techniques to work out deep-seated knots. I swear it was magic. Plus she gave me simple health tips to utilize at home; including those based on her understanding of acupuncture meridians & the Chinese health philosophy. Oh! And Tanya isn't limited to deep tissue. She does all the various massages on the menu. Thank you, Tanya & Massage America! read more

Sharon (works on Tuesdays and Thursdays) at Massage America is wonderful! I bought a lifebooker for a sweedish massage and it was the best massage I ever had! It was super relaxing and it felt really good. I also really appreciated Sharon because she just made me feel good about myself. She gave really nice compliments and paid close attention to where I was holding a lot of stress. I would definitely go back if another lifebooker comes up (unfortunately I don't think I can afford the full price). read more

Had an incredible experience today at Mpower. Carols was awesome- did deep tissue massage, acupuncture, electric shocking and cupping. I had a tweak in my lower back for 2 weeks now and finally, I can bend over with close to no pain. I will be back! read more

I had an orthopedic massage by Alex. He gave me the best massage I've ever had. He was incredibly knowledgeable about kinesiology and muscle interactions in the body. I tend to have bad neck and upper back pain and he worked those muscles to the point that even a week later they felt little to no pain. He went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and worked for the full hour. I will definitely be returning. Additionally, online booking was very easy and e-mail reminders were very helpful in making sure everything was on schedule! read more

This place really was awesome. The only reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because my friend me I were separated not just by room, but by floor as well. I had my massage on the 11th floor. (when you first get to the 11th floor it's pretty creepy) my friend had her massage on the 6th floor which is their main location. Also our appointments were for 11, while mine was right on time, they did not begin hers until 11:45 so I had to wait alone in the waiting room for about half an hour The location on the 6th floor was really nice, modern, air conditioned, quiet with some light background music. The 11th floor wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't as nice as the 6th floor. I mean, it's cool, I got what I paid for. ANYWAY I was put with Alex, and he was excellent. Took the time out to ask what kind of massage I needed, what I do for a living, do I feel any strains anywhere that he could get to get out for me. He walked me through everything, always asked if the pressure was ok, and took time out to make conversation and what not. I Definitely recommend him. Overall place was awesome. Will be back. read more

Rob is an absolute fantastic therapist!! If you need a deep tissue massage, I would highly recommend going to see him. Also, their new client special of buy 1 get 1 free is absolutely crazy and so worth it! read more

honestly have a hard time writing this review because michele was so sweet and i really enjoyed getting to know her but here we go: *room was freezing and all they offer is a bed sheet that is paper thin. not comfortable. *bathroom situation less than ideal, down the hall and very dirty. not a great way to start and end a session *not sure if michele's timing was off but she didn't massage front of legs at all when i flipped and she apologized and said she ran out of time. kind of awkward? *when told i had a second massage free i kept running into scheduling conflicts and the woman at reception simply gave me a "well i guess we can't schedule you then" and hung up. gee thanks for flexibility *overall, not a great experience and won't be returning. wouldn't recommend to a friend. read more

I've been to Massage America three times and every time, my experience was superb! My recent visit, Tanya was my therapist! Tanya was very knowledgeable. She knew exactly what my problem was and she also taught me different exercises that I can do at home to ease out my pain! I definitely recommend her!!! Also, Greg and Andrew are awesome too! They really attend to your needs! MassageAmerica never disappoints me! Seriously, all of their crews are fanatastic!!! As a college student, I wouldn't have enjoyed the message if it weren't the deals. The regular price can be a little pricey for me. Again, the massage is the worth the money! However, I just can't afford it. But, if you subscribe to their newsletters, Greg, the owner, sends out awesome deals very frequently, so definitely take advantage of that! :) read more

This place is fantastic. Please visit them. I've had many many massages in the city in the past and this is where I will only go from now on. I first went when I bought a Groupon 60 minute deep tissue. The massage therapist I had booked had to get someone to cover him, which I was very happy to have happen. Jay filled in and he was fantastic. I had such a good massage, I bought a 4 pack right afterwards. It's been 5 75 minute deep tissues massages so far, and all have drastically helped my back and my tight calves. I lug a lot of things around town on a regular basis, so my back is extremely tight. Jay was able to relieve all my tension there as well as in my super-tight crampy calves. He makes sure to ask me what my trouble spots are each time before we begin. It's better to vocally talk about your issues than to just jot them down on the questionnaire. Look past the warehouse-style hallways and see that each massage room is clean, nice, and relaxing. MA knows how to make you comfortable. I already have my next massage booked, I suggest you do the same. And book Jay! He is phenomenal. read more

I go back to Dawn time and time again. I've had massages all around the world and it takes time for me to find someone I trust. I found Dawn by a coincidence and have been delighted with every single massage she has done. I notice there are some complaints that this massage center is in an old building. Once you get inside the warm, cozy, clean room and close your eyes, none of this matters! It is the quality of the massage that counts, and I give Dawn five stars every time. :) read more

I have received massages from a few therapists. I have always enjoyed them and felt great afterwards. After weeks of working too much(I am a LMT) I scheduled a massage with Danae. When she came to escort me to the room, she asked if we knew each other from working at another business. I didn't remember right away. I apologized as we walked to the room. After 11 years of working in the city, you are bound to run into a few folks you've met before. Anyway, during the massage(deep heat) the hydrocollator was placed on my back with no protective covering. Normally, I can take a good amount of heat. But after a while it was too much and I asked to have it removed. During a Swedish massage, the pressure ranges from light to medium. She kept using her thumbs and elbows. The thumbs were digging into my sensitive areas. I spoke up and asked her to ease up. She did but after a while used them again. During the massage, I just decided to stop fighting the bones and let it happen. After time was up, she left the room. No post massage check in. I did feel better afterwards but am feeling some discomfort in my body. (I understand this is because I neglected my regular massage) As a massage therapist, I understand the grind. All too well. Having to help people takes a toll after a while. I understand that as well. But what I won't excuse is a fellow therapist not respecting my requests as a client. Since my favorite massage therapist relocated to California, my search continues. I will visit the studio again, but will request another therapist. Happy New Year. read more

Because of the BOGO offer I had two experiences at Massage America. Without the free massage I never would've gone back to Massage America after my first experience. I had a 60 min Swedish massage with Oriel. She was professional and friendly, and there was nothing glaringly wrong with the massage except that it didn't really do for me what a massage is supposed to do: it didn't really relieve any tension and it didn't relax me at all. I was prepared for either a very relaxing massage or a painful, but you're happy afterwards type of massage. It didn't do it for me. Also, the aromatherapy made me congested so I spent much of the massage focused on my breathing. The studio is in the sketchiest hallway I've seen in Manhattan. The bathroom in the hallway doesn't have doors on its stalls so you have to lock the whole bathroom if you want privacy (and Massage America doesn't have its own bathroom). The studio itself is much more pleasing to the eye, but when you walk in, the office isn't in sight and you're left to wonder where you're supposed to go and hope someone comes to greet you. Like I said, I went back because I had a free massage credit (which, by the way, you have to use within 10 days of the first massage). This time I scheduled it with John Paul, and it was MUCH BETTER. He did a deep tissue massage on me, and while it was relatively painful at times, I left feeling like I was standing up straighter and much looser than when I walked in. He used Shea butter on me rather than a generic massage cream or scented oils, which I appreciated. He seemed to understand much better where my problem areas were and how to approach them. I would definitely enjoy having another massage with him, but I'd rather go to a place that feels more legitimate and welcoming, and where the therapists ALL seem knowledgeable/well-trained. read more

Asked the masseuse to focus on my back/shoulder and he barely did so. Overall, massage was okay but underwhelming. Especially for this price. Also, I got a bruise from this massage! Ridiculous.. read more

Love this place. It has a few issues, but overall its definitely worth it. Bought a Groupon. Had a mishap the first go-round when the practitioner was a no-show. But thats ok because the manager called me and scheduled another appointment for free. A free session? Ok I can do that. Had an hour with Andrew and he was awesome. Highly recommended! Booked another appointment with my Groupon for 1.5 hours. Showed up on time, but by the time all was said and done the appointment started about 15 min late... and yet still ended on time... short-changing me by 15 min. I'm not as upset by this since it was a Groupon, however given the prices, I would have been very disappointed if I paid extra for longer massage and got barely over an hour... With that being said, the massage itself was amazing. I mean, amazing. I have another Groupon so we will see how the third visit goes, but overall happy. read more

This place is the best!!! Amazing massages, relaxing atmosphere and Blue is the sweetest, chillest, and most beautiful iguana I have ever met!!! I have come here many times, primarily for deep tissue massages. Rob, Is great, Igor is not afraid to apply the pressure, everyone I have seen here has been skilled and professional. I will definitely be back!! read more

I also bought a $39 Lifebooker Loot for a deep tissue massage and it was great. Mandy got in there...strong touch....which I LOVE!!! She worked out my very notty back as best it could be in an hour. But also loved her attention to all my muscles. Highly recommend Mandy...definitely planning on going back! read more

Goes without saying that this place is absolutely phenomenal for massages - sparkling clean facilities, talented masseuses, easy scheduling, great deals on their mailing list. But did you know that they also do physical therapy and medical massages, that your insurance can cover? I have a slipped disc and scheduled an appointment with their resident PT Canico, and despite having gone to multiple highly ranked PT facilities (like SPEAR) and chiropractors, I have not had a single professional get to the root of my problems like he did and identify the muscles that needed to be released for me to feel better. After 1+ years of ongoing pain, I'm actually optimistic that under his care I will begin to see some relief. Thank you so much MPower! read more

Nagia was awesome. Her massage was so good that I almost fell asleep and let out a little snore. Not so attractive - oh well. Fantastic! I would have given the review five stars if the atmosphere was more spa-y. Don't get me wrong - it's quiet, clean, friendly, and inviting. Just not a "retreat." Go for fantastic service and prices. read more

I got my bf and I groupon deals for deep tissue massages. It was his first massage and he def enjoyed it. He's been making jokes that he got a massage by a Jamaican rugby player hahahaha but def feels less tense and relaxed esp in his back. As for me, my back felt relaxed immediately after the massage but then I wake up this morning and my back hurts. I attribute that to the fact that I got a deep tissue... Note to all, be sure you go to the 6th floor. We went to the 11th per the directory and almost missed our appt. read more

I use to live in NY and was lucky enough to go to Massage America once a week. Since then I've yet to find the quality and knowledge that Gregory and his LMT's bring to the table (literally). So every time I get back to NYC I make it a priority to get messages from them. They are great! This last weekend I had Peter as my therapist after not being able to move my lower back he literally healed me! I was able to continue my NY stay with full mobility thanks to him! Thanks for all you do Massage America! read more

I got a great deep tissue massage from Peter. I limped in with sciatic nerve pain, and walked out without it! Peter was very thorough, he asked a lot of questions, he checked in about pressure, and he made a lot of good suggestions. I've been to Massage America before, and have had appointments with a variety of therapists. Every one of them has been excellent. Their prices are very reasonable for the type of work they do. It's not a spa environment, but I prefer Massage America--I feel like their level of expertise and experience is more important than access to a sauna. And I love their online booking. read more

Will not take an appointment without your credit card number and every personal detail just short of you social... We're supposed to trust them with our bodies, and they won't trust us just to show up. I'll take my business somewhere else thank you very much. ---- And clearly they spend more time on their internet marketing than anything else ! read more

Though typically hesitant to try new therapists, I tried John today and was incredibly pleased with my experience. From the moment I met him, John made me feel completely comfortable and at ease. He was very in tune with my body and the problem areas and I really appreciated his attention to detail. He worked on muscles I didn't even know were a problem! I will definitely be returning to see John again soon. read more

I agree with the previous review as this was one of the best massages I have had in awhile. Marisel did an amazing deep tissue, and a real deep tissue where she worked on painful knots, and eased the stress in my neck and shoulders. I will definitely try to afford to make it back here more often. note: this is not a spa, do not expect a fancy atomsphere or building...with that said the massages are "fancy" and very professional. read more

I LOVE this place. It is serene and clean. There are many rooms and massage therapists available. I have had many massages with several different therapists and they are all great! read more

I would recommend Mpower and its therapists to anyone, but especially to folks seeking body work. The service is true to the business' name - if you are recovering from an injury, have chronic pain, or feeling in the need for a deeply revitalizing massage - this is the place to go. I cannot say enough! I have recommended many friends to Mpower, and all had positive experiences no matter the practioner! read more

Daniel and Oriel were both good. I went to their Printing House location. They have the buy 1 get 1 deal for first timers and it was a good deal. Decent place/decent massage. read more

I am obsessed with Massage America. I learned about it through a friend and have now been there at least 4 times, and for someone on my budget, that's saying a lot. Not only are the massage therapists talented and skilled, but it's just a great business to deal with. I have had one unsatisfactory massage since being there. However, I let Gregory (the business owner) know and I received a massage credit as well as a thoughtful response about why that massage therapist may have been "off" that day. This business is all about open channels of communication, so as long as you're honest with your therapist about the pressure you need, it's probably going to be amazing. I have had some great massages, but I'd have to say the absolute best one I've ever gotten was yesterday from Miranda. I asked for a lot of pressure, and boy did I get it! It was the first time a deep tissue massage has been borderline painful, even for me! But it was amazing--I asked for a therapeutic experience and she delivered. I am now going to be a loyal client of hers. Man, oh man! So...if you want a massage, go to Massage America. End of story. It's awesome. read more

Massage America is a very special place. The owner tries to keep things affordable, therefore it does not have a spa sensibility. Recently I've had a deep tissue massage with Joseph and a Sports/Swedish massage with Jay. Both were first-rate treatments. As a professional pianist I'm used to varying styles and degrees of pressure. Massage America has many excellent therapists. You can see their reviews on the website. There is a BOGO for new clients, and many continuing discounts and promotions for returning customers. The MAC location has the added benefit of shower and sauna use after the massage. I find the online booking to be easy and convenient now that I'm a returning client. read more

I had a signature facial with Sarah and it was fantastic. I've had a handful of facials but not one like this--it was so relaxing. Sarah is also a massage therapist and adds in massage during times when the products are absorbing. Book with Sarah--you won't be disappointed. As for the space, others say it's not a spa atmosphere and I don't entirely agree. Sure, the building isn't, but the waiting area is nicely appointed and relaxing and the room was certainly spa-like and super quiet. I loved it. read more

Massage America is a very clean, basic boutique massage experience. When you walk in the lobby is small, but smells great, very warm and with amazing views of Union Square. My masseuse, Pablo was very gracious and kind. He really listened to the type of massage I needed and even spent extra time since I had so many knots. If you are looking for a great massage with excellent professionals, this is the place to go. If you are looking for a luxury spa experience, this is not it, but it is very clean, warm and inviting. read more

Mandi, Mandi, Mandi! I was in desperate need of a good massage, and the reviews were mostly positive about this place, so I decided to try it out. I was totally pleased. I booked an appointment with Mandi - she was professional and attentive. She is the type of person where I felt comfortable around her right away. She asked me beforehand what I wanted her to focus on, and she gave all those areas good attention. To address some of the negative reviews about this place - the weird hallway and it's not a spa environment, etc: -it's NOT a spa environment. This place focuses on a good massage at a good price with skilled therapists. It's not the type of place where you're going to drink cucumber water and sit in a fluffy robe. If that's what you're looking for, don't come here. I, personally don't need any of that; I just want a strong massage. -the hallway isn't that weird; all these people need to calm down. -The confirmation email addresses both of these things. The BOGO offer is great too, for returning customers, your second massage is free within 10 days - I already booked mine for next week! read more
