Carlos is an excellent combo acupuncturist and triggerpoint massage therapist for muscle tension and sports injuries. Highly recommend for weightlifters and athletes, as well as regular folks. read more

The weirdest massage I've ever got, but the MOST effective, is the best way I can describe it. I got a deep tissue 90 min massage with CBD oil and I walked in with severe back pain and practically jumped up like a youthful 20 something after my massage. It was a miracle! My second visit wasn't quite a good, tbh, so choose your therapist carefully (is my only watch out). I ended up with weird right hip pain, the very next day that I'd never had before and the only thing new was the massage, the day prior. On my next visit (that's already booked, thanks to their special deal), I'm going back to my first therapist, and can't wait for my back to feel like it did before I was injured, lol. read more

I have been going to Mpower for a few years now. I have the membership and try to go once a month. I have seen both Igor and Gerrard. They have different styles, and I cannot speak highly enough of both. I always walk out of a massage with Igor relaxed and my body always feels better than when I walked in. With Gerrard, I came in with serious pain as a result of a flare up of an old injury. His massage felt like an amazing combo of massage + physical therapy (what I wanted). I've seen him twice now, and both times he knew exactly where to target and really helped alleviate my pain. Massages with Igor and Gerrard are not "formulaic", they each seem in tune with what I need and give great massages. read more

I've been having a lot of pain from my sinus system to full body aches since I had Covid-19. Today I booked an acupuncture facial with Mariko and 90 min deep tissue massage with Igor. Very cute office off of Union Square, with tea and water in the reception area. Let me tell you... it's been months since I've felt like myself, and for the first time in a long while I feel like I'm actually physically functioning. The facial was a bit intense, even as someone who's gotten my fair amount of acupuncture before, getting it on your face is "different". I came in with issues related to my sinuses, not draining properly, and by the time my massage was happening afterwards, I was trying not to leak all over the massage table. Quite effective. I'm excited to see what shape my skin is in the next week. Mariko was such a sweetheart and explained everything as it was happening, so there was no confusion. Now on to the deep tissue massage... one of the BEST I've had in my life. Igor was truly magical and I'd recommend him to anyone who asked. I've had issues with my neck, lower back, and sciatica. Making it very challenging to function. I cannot believe how great I feel. There is no denying that the massage was painful at times, because my body was EXTREMELY tight. I have had 30+ deep tissue massages and not one had my body feeling like it does right now. Igor is was so patient with my body as he eased out the tension. He's quite quiet, but it let me focus on breathing through the pain. Very firm hands, with great motion, and his pressure was absolute perfection. Such a sweetheart as well. It wasn't just an oily rubdown like I've gotten at spas before here in NYC. I've walked 20 blocks since I left and felt like I could keep going. Which was not something I can say I was capable of when I came in because of my body pain and aches. I will most definitely be back. They're a bit pricy, but it's worth every penny, and such hospitable employees that care about their patients. I also met the owner when paying, and he was such a pleasant character. He had a great energy and was so friendly. If you're in pain, and seeking someone to help you with it, make your appointment today. You can thank me later! read more

anya is great. sepali is great. always a positve experience at m power. great options for wellness

I was taken care of as soon as I walked into the space. The employees were so attentive and accommodating! The new patient form was quick and easy to fill out. I made an appointment with Carlos for a deep tissue massage with CBD oil. I have been desperately needing an effective massage for chronic back pain caused by moderate scoliosis. I was able to chat with Carlos and tell him of all my concerns and he understood right away how to go about the massage. Right away I could tell it was gonna be a good one. I've had 2 other massages in the past month but the massage therapists did not give me a quarter of the relief that Carlos's massage gave me. I went up to use the bathroom halfway through and I already felt like I was walking and standing like a completely different person. My spine didnt feel so stiff anymore and I wasn't in pain! I was so grateful to Carlos by the end of the massage. Thank you Carlos for not being afraid to apply the deep pressure I desperately needed! Thank you Mpower Bodywork for an amazing experience! I will definitely be coming on a regular basis. read more

When my long-term massage therapist left private practice, I searched for a new regular spot. And I found it at MPower. Everyone is great, but I particularly like working with Luis. Luis has always gone above and beyond and has taken such good care of me during pregnancy and post-partum. He has been patient when I've been late and has given me extra time at points. He was there for me when my dad died, when my in-laws were in town, when my back was so sore from breastfeeding. He suggests stretches and life hacks to help feel more comfortable. Whenever someone asks where to get a massage in Manhattan, I send them to him! As a bonus - the rates are very reasonable (ESPECIALLY with a membership) and there is often last-minute availability, which makes it so much easier to fit in a massage around a baby + life. read more

When I came to Mpower for the first time, it was because they accept those darned pain-in-the-ass SpaFinder cards that people like to chip in and give their coworkers for their birthdays. Turns out they were offering a generous new client BOGO special, and I came back a second time because of that. After the second visit I knew I would want to keep coming back simply because it's a great place. I am not into fancy spa stuff, and Mpower is NOT fancy by any means. It's in an old building with public bathrooms that remind me of my elementary school... but it is simple, clean, and has good vibes. This is not the kind of place you come to feel super pampered, but is the perfect place to come if you're health-minded and simply want to have your physical and emotional knots softened by licensed massage therapists in a practical way at a reasonable price. My favorite therapists so far are Igor and Gregory. If you are looking for a very quiet but super strong masseuse and want to just zone out, you will really like Igor. He is about a million feet tall but as quiet as a mouse. Gregory, the owner, is a warm and friendly, and provides more technical explanation regarding what he is doing. He seems like a very open-minded and spiritual person, and is the type that makes you immediately feel like you have known him for years. I highly recommend checking this place out. (As of this writing- December 2020- they're still offering the 2-for-1 new client special, which is a pretty amazing value.) read more

Horrible experience. Was totally violated, the therapist even acknowledged this and texted me after regarding the inappropriateness. I am a 26 year old female and will be taking action. Separately, it is dirty. read more

I am training for the NYC marathon and saw Jasmine. She addressed all tight areas for me especially my calves which were causing me pain. I will absolutely be coming back here - John was incredible. I booked the 60 minute swedish massage with CBD oil on classpass and I am so glad I found this place. This is possibly the best massage I've ever had in NYC. Can't recommend it enough! read more

This was truly an incredible experience, I feel very fortunate that I ended up at MPower and working with Gregory. I came to get help with a shoulder impingement that has been causing a huge amount to pain for months and has been radiating into other areas. Gregory is warm and easy to talk to. He is a tremendously skilled body worker, and explains what he is doing throughout the treatment which I really appreciated. Most importantly he really listened to my description of my injury and what my plan of recovery has been so far to be able to complement what I'm already doing. I am so happy to be adding him into this plan and can't recommend him enough. My session never felt rushed, the hour felt like 2 hours and I walked away feeling better than I have in months. Looking forward to my next visit and recommending him to anyone who needs deep tissue work done. read more

I've been to several of the massage therapists here, they have all done an awesome job. They know what they are doing!

We went to Mpower as part of a celebratory afternoon, and had a truly wonderful experience. The massages we received were highly personalized and left us both feeling super relaxed. The owner deserves a special shout-out: he was incredibly kind, personable, and engaging. We hope to visit again in the future! read more

Excellent massage from John. Subsequent massage by a different practitioner was awful (no pressure , felt ticklish under the light touch). But I will go back to see John! read more

Jessica is awesome! In addition, to releasing tight tissue from my pulled hamstring, she followed up with great info for stretches and injury prevention. Also, the waiting room is nice and relaxing with quite a few tea options as well. read more

I had an outstanding massage today with Eric Reinhold. He specializes in Thai (I learned this later) but offered an excellent deep tissue massage. I'll be going back to try his Thai version. As others have noted, the location isn't anything special, but it felt clean and my massage started and ended on time. Bonus points for being able to book on the fly--I booked at 11 and my massage started at noon--pretty great! read more

I'm an athlete that's had two ACL surgeries, and was experiencing pain and tightness in my knee. I guessed it was from having tight calves and hamstring, and I was particularly worried because I had an international tournament in 5 days but couldn't walk or run normally. I called Mpower and got I connected with Greg, who booked me for two myofascial massages before I left. Let me tell you--SAVED MY LIFE!!! Greg did some magic and within 24 hours my knee was back to normal. The follow up appointment made me feel confident that my knee issue was resolved, long story short I went to play in the tournament and was good as new with no problems. I've had lots of massage therapists and PTs in my time as an athlete and cannot recommend Greg enough!! He was very communicative, and incredibly professional. Will be back read more

I visited this place for a 60-minute Swedish Massage that I purchased on Groupon. Making an appointment is easy, as they have online booking. This is a great service, because at other establishments I either have to make an appointment from work (potentially awkward) or I think of it after-hours, or the receptionist is difficult to understand. All of those "ifs" are eliminated with online booking. My original appointment was made for the week after I had a big fitness competition. Unfortunately, a week or two before they called to cancel. I didn't really understand why, as we had a poor phone connection. It was disappointing, but hopefully just bad luck. I re-made my appointment with Amanda. Upon arrival I was offered water and asked to fill out some paperwork. In about 5-7 minutes I was ushered to my room. The room was not luxurious, but it was clean and neat. Amanda asked a few questions about my goals for the session, my overall health, injuries, etc. Her massage was relaxing and really got some tension out, just like it should. She did a wonderful job. During the "face down" part, lights were not dimmed which I found slightly odd. But, once I flipped "face up" they were. Music is pumped in through speakers (I assume not controlled by the individual masseurs) and there was a period of about 10-15 minutes that it stopped which resulted in a weird silence. It seemed someone forgot to hit "play". Amanda worked on me for the full 60 minutes, not skimping or cutting off early - something I have experienced at other places. I would definitely recommend this establishment. While it's not luxury, they are effective, polite, and good at what they do. read more

I've already posted once about Massage America -- but I have to hit it again. Sun Lee's deep tissue massage is killer. I simply told Sun where I felt tight and he got to the business. He periodically checked if the pressure level was okay, stretched my muscles and really got the tightness and aches out. (But be prepared for the pain to rock you.) Sun's also very knowledgeable on other health-related topics including nutrition and the body, and he's active himself (various sports, yoga), so he knows what he's doing. Sun will tell you why your muscles ache, what they're called and how to take care. You just have to ask. Extra bonus: He's also super pleasant to be around. A very cheery therapist! I've seen Sun twice now (he's not for the faint of heart or body), but if you're in to deep tissue, and have some serious tension, go see Sun. read more

Went in for a sports massage with Alexandra. She is very good! Before we started she asked me my concerns and focused on the problematic areas as well as a well balanced total body treatment. I like Sports Massage because it's not only a deep tissue massage but also include some stretching. I had a pleasant experience. The place is very cute with a very zen waiting area. You can stay and have herbal tea before or after the treatment. Staff at the front is also very friendly & helpful. They constantly have promotions. (I think it's weekly) I'm on their mailing list so I always receive their promo emails. Highly recommended! Thumbs Up! read more

I've been to Mpower many times have had excellent service and muscle relieving massages. But I feel it really important to make a note of my last massage with Gregory. It was very uncomfortable. The massage itself relieved many of the issues I was feeling in my muscles but was anything but relaxing. I do not believe one should comment on the body of their client, while almost naked and in a compromising position. Commenting on one's feet in a sexual manner, or even complementing one's "muscle definition" is inappropriate. I failed to say anything at the time, in part because I was still somewhat stunned at the experience. But I feel it should be shared, in hopes this behavior will NOT continue. read more

I came here based on Yelp reviews. I'm typically concerned about reviews for massages because I think it completely depends on the therapist you get. Most people don't know what a real deep tissue massage is. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I got a deep tissue massage and it was touch and go there for a little bit where I thought I would yell out in pain. It was a good kind of pain that you knew would make you feel better afterwards. My therapist Aimee Jolson was an independent person that comes in every so often. Plus they have a 2 for 1 special for new customers. It's kind of a no-brainer if you want a decent massage. read more

I hadn't had a massage in forever, and a friend had referred me to this place a couple years ago. I booked a deep tissue massage with Rimma, and it was fantastic. She worked on all my trouble spots, and she really knows her stuff. I cannot wait to be back. Plus the space itself is super clean, and everyone there is lovely. read more

This review is about painful logistics of trying to schedule a couples massage. Our massages therapists Carlos and Amy were great. I tried making an appointment online which clearly offered couples massage, but had a question so I called instead. The receptionist tells me she doesn't know if they offer couples massage (even though I'm staring at the screen that's says they do) so she says she'll call me back. She calls back and says "yes we do offer them." 1 hour before our appointment I call to see if we can have two female masseuses. HERES THE GOOD PART: receptionist tells me they will be performing our couple massages in different rooms, on different floors because the female masseuse only likes working on the 4th floor and the guy works on the 6th floor. Are you kidding me? I don't care who likes what floor but I booked a COUPLES massage, not two separate massages. This is stuff you don't share with the customer. They were able to squeeeeze a table into a room on the 4th floor so we had our couples massage in cramped quarters. If I hadn't called, I would have paid $$$$ for nothing. Massage was good but man, what a dumb mess. read more

Dancers go to Luis! He was so detailed & is v. familiar with the issues that dancers go through. I went to him twice & felt so much better afterwards, but even more crucially he empowered me with so much extremely helpful information about what my body was doing (on a muscle, tendon, ligament level) & suggestions on proper stretching & strengthening to really address some very specific chronic issues. He takes his work very seriously & passionately with the dedication of someone who is fulfilling their calling. I'm sure he's also great for other issues / kinds of athletes. Thank you Luis! read more

I was staying at the W and had a headache that just would not go away. My husband called and was told that Suzanne could work me in if I came now. So I hurried over and Suzanne not only got me in but made my headache go away. She was AMAZING! She gave me some recommendations for when I go back home. I told her that I wasn't going back home because she was so amazing I needed to move to NYC ASAP! I will be back to see her SOON! There are worse places to have to travel for a massage! :0) I also came in the next day (free massage because it was my first) and because Suzanne was not working that day :0( I had to go with someone else. That someone, was Rob, and he also did not disappoint. I only wish that I lived here full time so I could come here more! read more

I went in for a massage before the NYC Marathon to get out the kinks from training. I received an email about a massage package for runners so I thought I would try it out. This was my first time, but I will definitely be back. read more

I have been coming to Mpower Bodywork for many years (used to be called Massage America). I have always had a great experience. All of the massage therapist are exceptional, feels like they have been carefully selected for their high standard of knowledge and sensitivity....nothing worse than getting a massage from someone who is mechanical and just going through the motions. I am a massage therapist myself so I am picky when it comes to paying to receive a massage. This place is worth ever penny. You won't regret coming here. Highly recommend!! read more

Very easy to book, excellent top-notch therapists too. I will visit again soon!

I visited this place for my prenatal massage. This is my second pregnancy and both pregnancies I was going for prenatal massages, first one I was visiting bliss spa on lex avenue but they closed, and during this one I was soho sanctuary client but then they were closed for 3 weeks because renovation so I came across this place based on yelp reviews! First what attracted me to this place is fact they are offering buy 1 massage get second one for free!! I was little surprised by such an amazing deal, and honestly little suspicious about quality, but they really are 5 stars massage place to go!! First of all, this is not full spa experience ( like bliss or ss ) but massages I had here were probably one of best prenatal massages ever in my life! First time I had therapist Laura and second time Jessica.. both of them were beyond amazing! Very different style, but perfect pressure, worked my body from head to toes, listened to my concerns and they were so pleasant and nice.. highly recommend this place, if you looking for great massage in nyc YOU NEED TO COME HERE!!! Thank you Laura and Jessica!! read more

I've never had a bad massage until yesterday. I bought the one-hour deep-tissue massage on Lifebooker for a good price, so I can't complain about that. I scheduled my appointment, which I then had to re-schedule. Masssage America did not pick up their phone any of the times I've called, probably because they don't have a receptionist. I've had to either leave a message every time or email to have them call me. The building was very strange and Massage America's location was on a different floor than their address said. There was no receptionist, so you kind of just have to sit there and wait for your massage therapist to come and get you. I had Gregory give me the massage. Compared to any other massage I've ever had (deep-tissue or not), this one felt very amateur. There wasn't much "continuity" in the massage, no gradual moving from one part of the body from another. I'm not sure how else to explain it. Rather, it was more of just poking random parts on the body and kneading them. I know that's the whole point of a deep-tissue massage, but the way this was done was not at a high skill-level. I've had a lot of massages in the past to be able to compare. Also, the lotion being used was shea butter, not massage oil. Gregory also did not have a hair tie/clip (I should have been more prepared), so my hair got all gross from the lotion when he was working on my neck. Most massages I've had in the past have ended with being wiped down with a warm towel to remove the greasiness. This didn't happen here and I wasn't asked, so I felt pretty gross putting my clothes on afterwards. I'm not sure how much training Gregory has had and I feel bad about saying that, but this wasn't my first or second massage. He was very nice overall, but I wasn't satisfied with the skill level. read more

I regularly get massages and I have tried many different styles, locations and masseuses trying to find the best place. Problems are one location one style,or the masseuses are not great or experienced enough. Mpower Bodywork has been my go to for the past 3 years now. I go at least once a month. I have had massages from a few different people there and they are all good and have there own speciality. My favorite masseuse is Rob he is very skilled and strong enough for deep/Swedish/ or sport massage. He is great! Definitely check them out. read more

I was gifted a Groupon for this establishment from my best friend who had originally bought it for herself. She was told that after 4pm, only male masseurs were available and she didn't feel comfortable with that but I don't mind. I did some research and based on reviews, I picked a masseuse that I thought would be a good fit for me. The night before my massage at 8:38pm, I get a call saying the masseuse was sick and I would need to change my appointment. I had to rearrange my entire day to accommodate this change and did not get the masseuse I had picked. I understand that employees get sick, but I think some sort of compensation should be offered (ie: a discount of your next massage). MPower has a 24 hour cancellation policy for its clients and if I had cancelled at the time they did, I would have been penalized. I feel the company should hold itself to the same standard it holds clients. The day of the massage I arrived 20 min early to fill out paperwork and the man at the front desk tells me I'm too early and my masseuse isn't ready. That's fine, I just prefer to be early than risk being late. He then tells me that my masseuse is on a different floor and they called to tell me. I say I never got a call and he snaps "well they did call you!" I checked my phone after and saw that they called at 3:11pm when my appointment was at 4pm. I was already on the train in the way over. Then when my masseuse arrives to take me to the correct floor, he tells me that I was not what he expected because his boss told him that I was cranky and had a bad attitude. My masseuse said he expected some ungrateful old lady. That's when I found out that the front desk guy is Gregory, the owner! That's how he treats clients. Even if he did think I had an attitude (which I didn't because another client in the waiting room commented on Gregory's rudeness), as a business owner, you should be mature enough to not trash talk clients to your employees right before a service. My massage could have been and probably was influenced by his comments. That's just beyond unprofessional. The massage itself was fine. My masseuse seemed a bit green (he kept dragging a stool around so that he could sit while massaging me) but he had strong hands and potential. I just hope he finds a better place to hone his skill. read more

I came here last week and took advantage of the new client buy one get one free promotion. I first saw Pablo after being in back pain for several days and he worked out a lot of knots on my back and broke up a lot of the tension. Today I saw Alex and he was phenomenal. As soon as I started speaking he evaluated my problem areas, and offered up immediate solutions. He worked specifically to lengthen my muscles, and train them to be where they should. He even gave me exercises to continue at home and emailed me demo videos. Alex is really incredible, I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

I have to update again. I have since moved to New Jersey, but I still make the trek back to Massage America whenever I can on my days off. They're that good. I've had massages by even more therapists (Miranda and Jasmin) and I swear, each one is better than the last. Miranda has done wonders helping me correct my posture and has broken up knots that have been there for years. She will surprise you with her strength and talent! Jasmin as well has been a god send for my achy legs and has such a soothing and friendly disposition, she's like a little ray of sunshine every time I see her. They always give me tips and recommednations for techniques and stretches to do while I'm in between massages to help with my aches and pains. Overall, I have been impressed time and time again with how attentive these therapists are. It's never a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am, cookie-cutter massage. They are serious about finding your problem areas and making them better. I always leave feeling like a new person, with body parts that actually move, as oppsed to the contracted, stiff mess I am when I walk in :) Thanks again! read more
