The weirdest massage I've ever got, but the MOST effective, is the best way I can describe it. I got a deep tissue 90 min massage with CBD oil and I walked in with severe back pain and practically jumped up like a youthful 20 something after my massage. It was a miracle! My second visit wasn't quite a good, tbh, so choose your therapist carefully (is my only watch out). I ended up with weird right hip pain, the very next day that I'd never had before and the only thing new was the massage, the day prior. On my next visit (that's already booked, thanks to their special deal), I'm going back to my first therapist, and can't wait for my back to feel like it did before I was injured, lol. read more

I have been going to Mpower for a few years now. I have the membership and try to go once a month. I have seen both Igor and Gerrard. They have different styles, and I cannot speak highly enough of both. I always walk out of a massage with Igor relaxed and my body always feels better than when I walked in. With Gerrard, I came in with serious pain as a result of a flare up of an old injury. His massage felt like an amazing combo of massage + physical therapy (what I wanted). I've seen him twice now, and both times he knew exactly where to target and really helped alleviate my pain. I was taken care of as soon as I walked into the space. The employees were so attentive and accommodating! The new patient form was quick and easy to fill out. I made an appointment with Carlos for a deep tissue massage with CBD oil. I have been desperately needing an effective massage for chronic back pain caused by moderate scoliosis. I was able to chat with Carlos and tell him of all my concerns and he understood right away how to go about the massage. Right away I could tell it was gonna be a good one. I've had 2 other massages in the past month but the massage therapists did not give me a quarter of the relief that Carlos's massage gave me. I went up to use the bathroom halfway through and I already felt like I was walking and standing like a completely different person. My spine didnt feel so stiff anymore and I wasn't in pain! When my long-term massage therapist left private practice, I searched for a new regular spot. And I found it at MPower. Everyone is great, but I particularly like working with Luis. Luis has always gone above and beyond and has taken such good care of me during pregnancy and post-partum. He has been patient when I've been late and has given me extra time at points. He was there for me when my dad died, when my in-laws were in town, when my back was so sore from breastfeeding. He suggests stretches and life hacks to help feel more comfortable. Whenever someone asks where to get a massage in Manhattan, I send them to him! As a bonus - the rates are very reasonable (ESPECIALLY with a membership) and there is often last-minute availability, which makes it so much easier to fit in a massage around a baby + life. read more

I've been having a lot of pain from my sinus system to full body aches since I had Covid-19. Today I booked an acupuncture facial with Mariko and 90 min deep tissue massage with Igor. Very cute office off of Union Square, with tea and water in the reception area. Let me tell you... it's been months since I've felt like myself, and for the first time in a long while I feel like I'm actually physically functioning. The facial was a bit intense, even as someone who's gotten my fair amount of acupuncture before, getting it on your face is "different". I came in with issues related to my sinuses, not draining properly, and by the time my massage was happening afterwards, I was trying not to leak all over the massage table. Quite effective. I'm excited to see what shape my skin is in the next week. Mariko was such a sweetheart and explained everything as it was happening, so there was no confusion. Now on to the deep tissue massage... one of the BEST I've had in my life. Igor was truly magical and I'd recommend him to anyone who asked. I've had issues with my neck, lower back, and sciatica. Making it very challenging to function. I cannot believe how great I feel. There is no denying that the massage was painful at times, because my body was EXTREMELY tight. I have had 30+ deep tissue massages and not one had my body feeling like it does right now. Igor is was so patient with my body as he eased out the tension. He's quite quiet, but it let me focus on breathing through the pain. Very firm hands, with great motion, and his pressure was absolute perfection. Such a sweetheart as well. It wasn't just an oily rubdown like I've gotten at spas before here in NYC. I've walked 20 blocks since I left and felt like I could keep going. Which was not something I can say I was capable of when I came in because of my body pain and aches. I will most definitely be back. They're a bit pricy, but it's worth every penny, and such hospitable employees that care about their patients. I also met the owner when paying, and he was such a pleasant character. When I came to Mpower for the first time, it was because they accept those darned pain-in-the-ass SpaFinder cards that people like to chip in and give their coworkers for their birthdays. Turns out they were offering a generous new client BOGO special, and I came back a second time because of that. After the second visit I knew I would want to keep coming back simply because it's a great place. I am not into fancy spa stuff, and Mpower is NOT fancy by any means. It's in an old building with public bathrooms that remind me of my elementary school... but it is simple, clean, and has good vibes. This is not the kind of place you come to feel super pampered, but is the perfect place to come if you're health-minded and simply want to have your physical and emotional knots softened by licensed massage therapists in a practical way at a reasonable price. My favorite therapists so far are Igor and Gregory. If you are looking for a very quiet but super strong masseuse and want to just zone out, you will really like Igor. He is about a million feet tall but as quiet as a mouse. Gregory, the owner, is a warm and friendly, and provides more technical explanation regarding what he is doing. He seems like a very open-minded and spiritual person, and is the type that makes you immediately feel like you have known him for years. I highly recommend checking this place out. (As of this writing- December 2020- they're still offering the 2-for-1 new client special, which is a pretty amazing value.) read more

My last massage was with David which I enjoyed because he gave me insight into the nerve issues I've been dealing with and how I'm on the right path to continuing my rehabilitation process. I am training for the NYC marathon and saw Jasmine. She addressed all tight areas for me especially my calves which were causing me pain. She then showed me stretches after the session for tight areas. She was PHENOMENAL and I woke up today feeling like a new person. This was truly an incredible experience, I feel very fortunate that I ended up at MPower and working with Gregory. I came to get help with a shoulder impingement that has been causing a huge amount to pain for months and has been radiating into other areas. Gregory is warm and easy to talk to. He is a tremendously skilled body worker, and explains what he is doing throughout the treatment which I really appreciated. Most importantly he really listened to my description of my injury and what my plan of recovery has been so far to be able to complement what I'm already doing. I am so happy to be adding him into this plan and can't recommend him enough. My session never felt rushed, the hour felt like 2 hours and I walked away feeling better than I have in months. I'm an athlete that's had two ACL surgeries, and was experiencing pain and tightness in my knee. I guessed it was from having tight calves and hamstring, and I was particularly worried because I had an international tournament in 5 days but couldn't walk or run normally. I called Mpower and got I connected with Greg, who booked me for two myofascial massages before I left. Let me tell you--SAVED MY LIFE!!! Greg did some magic and within 24 hours my knee was back to normal. The follow up appointment made me feel confident that my knee issue was resolved, long story short I went to play in the tournament and was good as new with no problems. I've had lots of massage therapists and PTs in my time as an athlete and cannot recommend Greg enough!! He was very communicative, and incredibly professional. Will be back read more

As others have noted, the location isn't anything special, but it felt clean and my massage started and ended on time. Went in for a sports massage with Alexandra. She is very good! Before we started she asked me my concerns and focused on the problematic areas as well as a well balanced total body treatment. I like Sports Massage because it's not only a deep tissue massage but also include some stretching. I had a pleasant experience. The place is very cute with a very zen waiting area. You can stay and have herbal tea before or after the treatment. Staff at the front is also very friendly & helpful. They constantly have promotions. I've been to Mpower many times have had excellent service and muscle relieving massages. But I feel it really important to make a note of my last massage with Gregory. It was very uncomfortable. The massage itself relieved many of the issues I was feeling in my muscles but was anything but relaxing. I do not believe one should comment on the body of their client, while almost naked and in a compromising position. Commenting on one's feet in a sexual manner, or even complementing one's "muscle definition" is inappropriate. I failed to say anything at the time, in part because I was still somewhat stunned at the experience. But I feel it should be shared, in hopes this behavior will NOT continue. read more

I visited this place for a 60-minute Swedish Massage that I purchased on Groupon. Making an appointment is easy, as they have online booking. This is a great service, because at other establishments I either have to make an appointment from work (potentially awkward) or I think of it after-hours, or the receptionist is difficult to understand. All of those "ifs" are eliminated with online booking. My original appointment was made for the week after I had a big fitness competition. Unfortunately, a week or two before they called to cancel. I didn't really understand why, as we had a poor phone connection. It was disappointing, but hopefully just bad luck. I re-made my appointment with Amanda. Upon arrival I was offered water and asked to fill out some paperwork. In about 5-7 minutes I was ushered to my room. The room was not luxurious, but it was clean and neat. Amanda asked a few questions about my goals for the session, my overall health, injuries, etc. Her massage was relaxing and really got some tension out, just like it should. She did a wonderful job. During the "face down" part, lights were not dimmed which I found slightly odd. But, once I flipped "face up" they were. Music is pumped in through speakers (I assume not controlled by the individual masseurs) and there was a period of about 10-15 minutes that it stopped which resulted in a weird silence. It seemed someone forgot to hit "play". Amanda worked on me for the full 60 minutes, not skimping or cutting off early - something I have experienced at other places. I would definitely recommend this establishment. While it's not luxury, they are effective, polite, and good at what they do. read more

I've already posted once about Massage America -- but I have to hit it again. Sun Lee's deep tissue massage is killer. I simply told Sun where I felt tight and he got to the business. He periodically checked if the pressure level was okay, stretched my muscles and really got the tightness and aches out. (But be prepared for the pain to rock you.) Sun's also very knowledgeable on other health-related topics including nutrition and the body, and he's active himself (various sports, yoga), so he knows what he's doing. Sun will tell you why your muscles ache, what they're called and how to take care. You just have to ask. Extra bonus: He's also super pleasant to be around. A very cheery therapist! I've seen Sun twice now (he's not for the faint of heart or body), but if you're in to deep tissue, and have some serious tension, go see Sun. read more

I came here based on Yelp reviews. I'm typically concerned about reviews for massages because I think it completely depends on the therapist you get. Most people don't know what a real deep tissue massage is. I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I got a deep tissue massage and it was touch and go there for a little bit where I thought I would yell out in pain. It was a good kind of pain that you knew would make you feel better afterwards. My therapist Aimee Jolson was an independent person that comes in every so often. Plus they have a 2 for 1 special for new customers. This review is about painful logistics of trying to schedule a couples massage. Our massages therapists Carlos and Amy were great. I tried making an appointment online which clearly offered couples massage, but had a question so I called instead. The receptionist tells me she doesn't know if they offer couples massage (even though I'm staring at the screen that's says they do) so she says she'll call me back. She calls back and says "yes we do offer them." 1 hour before our appointment I call to see if we can have two female masseuses. HERES THE GOOD PART: receptionist tells me they will be performing our couple massages in different rooms, on different floors because the female masseuse only likes working on the 4th floor and the guy works on the 6th floor. Are you kidding me? I don't care who likes what floor but I booked a COUPLES massage, not two separate massages. This is stuff you don't share with the customer. They were able to squeeeeze a table into a room on the 4th floor so we had our couples massage in cramped quarters. If I hadn't called, I would have paid $$$$ for nothing. Dancers go to Luis! He was so detailed & is v. familiar with the issues that dancers go through. I went to him twice & felt so much better afterwards, but even more crucially he empowered me with so much extremely helpful information about what my body was doing (on a muscle, tendon, ligament level) & suggestions on proper stretching & strengthening to really address some very specific chronic issues. He takes his work very seriously & passionately with the dedication of someone who is fulfilling their calling. I'm sure he's also great for other issues / kinds of athletes. I was staying at the W and had a headache that just would not go away. My husband called and was told that Suzanne could work me in if I came now. So I hurried over and Suzanne not only got me in but made my headache go away. She was AMAZING! She gave me some recommendations for when I go back home. I told her that I wasn't going back home because she was so amazing I needed to move to NYC ASAP! I will be back to see her SOON! All of the massage therapist are exceptional, feels like they have been carefully selected for their high standard of knowledge and sensitivity....nothing worse than getting a massage from someone who is mechanical and just going through the motions. I visited this place for my prenatal massage. This is my second pregnancy and both pregnancies I was going for prenatal massages, first one I was visiting bliss spa on lex avenue but they closed, and during this one I was soho sanctuary client but then they were closed for 3 weeks because renovation so I came across this place based on yelp reviews! First what attracted me to this place is fact they are offering buy 1 massage get second one for free!! I was little surprised by such an amazing deal, and honestly little suspicious about quality, but they really are 5 stars massage place to go!! First of all, this is not full spa experience ( like bliss or ss ) but massages I had here were probably one of best prenatal massages ever in my life! First time I had therapist Laura and second time Jessica.. both of them were beyond amazing! Very different style, but perfect pressure, worked my body from head to toes, listened to my concerns and they were so pleasant and nice.. highly recommend this place, if you looking for great massage in nyc YOU NEED TO COME HERE!!! I came back to Mpower in June 2016 after getting an excellent massage back in 2014 (don't ask me why it took me so long to go back). I recently got back into endurance athletics and was in the midst of a 7-month training program for Ironman Lake Placid. I had tried a few places on the Upper East Side (where I live), and didn't find a place/masseuse that hit my problem areas (legs and a hip injury) or went deep enough to achieve the restoration feeling one is supposed to have after a sports massage. Thankfully I remembered Gregory and Mpower, and was able to get two phenomenal sessions in before the race. He listened to me/my body and provided the massage work I needed -- after both sessions, I had excellent workouts the following days. I completed my Ironman in a time that exceeded my goals, and I know the massage work played a role in this achievement. I will continue to go back to Mpower now that I've found a place that gives me the physical/mental results I'm looking for and will refer the studio to teammates/friends/family! read more

honestly have a hard time writing this review because michele was so sweet and i really enjoyed getting to know her but here we go: *room was freezing and all they offer is a bed sheet that is paper thin. not comfortable. *bathroom situation less than ideal, down the hall and very dirty. not a great way to start and end a session *not sure if michele's timing was off but she didn't massage front of legs at all when i flipped and she apologized and said she ran out of time. kind of awkward? *when told i had a second massage free i kept running into scheduling conflicts and the woman at reception simply gave me a "well i guess we can't schedule you then" and hung up. gee thanks for flexibility *overall, not a great experience and won't be returning. wouldn't recommend to a friend. read more
