During my weekday "staycation" my visit was similar to an episode of Seinfeld or something. Upon arrival (late), check-in is in the main bar area with a cute neon sign. Personally I don't like my personal info on display or discussed at the bar. My status as a Bonvoy member, the room, amenities like food credit or points. It doesn't feel exclusive which is the overall feeling of Moxy. It's more like a hangout type of energy.
The bar is stacked with everything including some self-serve items for purchase. There's complimentary water, coffee (in the morning), Goldfish crackers and M&M candies in this area. Lots of seating with games like Jenga along with some nostalgic games - throwback mini arcade, rock & sock 'em, cards, chess, etc.
There's the main eatery - Eggslut that mostly serves breakfast sandwiches. They have French toast sticks, salad and iced coffees but it's a takeaway counter. Everything else you'll have to go outside to eat which there's a ton of places on Marietta Street. Across the street is Dave's Cheesesteaks that I tried and will review that separately.
When arriving to the room - there was a housekeeping person INSIDE with the door closed. Huh? He said he was doing nightly checks. Really? This has never happened in my days of staying in hotels! It was a shock and we thought we had the wrong room. He left swiftly but it was odd.
The rooms are small - it's intentional for the Moxy footprint. Inner city, studio/loft motif. Limited furniture and decor but on theme with the nostalgia theme. A small desk, end table, TV, lots of hooks and shelving and a bathroom.
The Jagger Suite rooftop lounge is what you really come for. It's swanky with the disco ball/unicorn art that spins, plush seats, a nice sized bar and the outside section has great views of downtown. The kitchen has already closed so I can't speak on the food.
The bed and shower were great. The mirror lights up (Bluetooth enabled) and there's motion sensor lights under the bed that go off quickly. The fitness center on the 2nd floor was better than most hotel gyms. Dumbbells, mats, yoga balls, elliptical and treadmills. I took advantage of that!
Parking is valet by the hour or a day pass for $55. Be sure to tap the link they send your phone to purchase the pass if you're staying overnight and not be double charged.
Lastly, we requested a late checkout for 4 PM and the key was deactivated at 2 PM. Another fumble but it was fixed easily after standing at the bar/check-in. Again, on display for everyone. Sigh...
Not my type of vibe to stay but will visit the rooftop again. Out of their control but unhoused people were around the hotel and it seemed like a better security presence should have been present. The police had to detain a woman that was loitering outside and was exposing herself. It really wasn't a good look. read more
