I've now…read morevisited this Chinese twice in a month and the main reason I went back was because of the quality of the food. On both occasions I ordered a salted chilli chicken with noodles and a chicken Kung po with chips. The portion sizes are excellent and unlike other Chinese takeaways they don't scrimp on the meat. You can order to collect or for it to be delivered at a small fee. I've collected my order on both occasions with it only taking around 25 minutes to cook. Price wise you're looking at £13 for two main meals and two sides which is fantastic. The menu is expansive so you'll be spoilt for choice. Check out the pic! Everywhere was closed so I went into nearby Newtownards and found the Ruby was still open. The old Chinese guy seemed really annoyed that I was ordering at this time as he was about to close shop. A chicken fried rice with curry was the order, £7.70 the price (+Diet Coke). I waited in silence for ten mins as I heard him cooking up my midnight feast. I then recoiled in horror as I heard him 'hawking up a flemer' that is Ulster Scotch for 'bringing thick lung mucus to the forefront of his mouth from the depths of his bronchioles'. I then heard him spit loudly followed by muffled laughter. When he brought the meal to me I immediately questioned him "did you just f***ing spit in my meal"? he started laughing and suddenly the only word he could speak was "thank you, thank you" I was not 100% sure he hawked in my curry as the view of the kitchen is blocked off by a wall but there was no way I was eating this meal. I took it away an inspected it in my car and to be fair I couldn't find his flemmer but I feared it was stirred into my portion of curry sauce. I will however be giving the meal to the appropriate authorities to see if saliva is present in the meal and if that's the case, may the law suit commence. Avoid at all costs.

The carryout itself is nice enough, I like the fish tank that you can check out while you wait but unfortunately I have always found that there will be a bit of a wait in this place. Even if you are getting food for one or two you can easily expect a wait of about 10-15 minutes, which I think is a little bit too much. The food is nice, if you like a basic chinese with not too many frills and spills then this place won't be a dissappointment. It has a good location, near to the main Rathgael Road as well as close proximity to an ATM, which I think is a good thing.

They serve a range of Asian dishes, Thia, Japanese etc and their Udon Noodles are delicious. As with almost all takeaway outlets, home delivery us available and their have their own app to download to order from online. You must register and email address and delivery details for this. Until recently they were available through Just Eat but have parted ways with them now. My pet hate from here is that they do not have a card machine so cash payments are required in-store but an ATM is very close by so not really a big issue.

The food in the Phoenix is about as good as you are going to get in Bangor and pretty competitive in their pricing with a chicken curry with fried rice/ soft noodlesd (free prawn crackers) being delivered for £6.10, and their delivery drivers are nice guys and I have never had to phone up and ask where a delivery is...! Pretty extraordinary if you ask me. Their curry is the only reason I go here if I am being honest and it is best thing on their menu...! Although I have it on very good authority the chow mein and black bean sauce and kung-po chicken are also worthy competitors. Their portions are also huge and their rice and noddles don't come in the usual silver tin packages that most Chinese restaurants use but the same bigger plastic cartons that the mains come in. I usually go for a delivery but over Christmas was here with a large party and they put is in a back room that was great and gave us some privacy, and meant other diners in main restaurant didn't have to listen to us! The owner is a lovely woman always smiling and happy to help and she even delivers sometime late in the evening! Phoenix also do a buffet during the day now but also offer a deal on their normal lunch menu that's £5.95 for a starter, main and dessert being served 6 days a week. Although Kambridges is unique as it is not only a takeaway but also sit down restaurant. It can cater for large parties and has a bring your own booze policy which makes it all the more attractive. It offers traditional Chinese cuisine at an affordable price. The restaurant menu differs little from the takeaway menu so you may as well go down to the restaurant rather than order a takeaway. This will at least give you a change of scenery from your living room. I must recommend the set menu for two, it is priced at £20.50 and includes duck and soup for starters and 2 mains of your choice as well as prawn crackers and fried rice. This gives you a taste of what the restaurant offers without breaking the bank. All in all it really is a nice restaurant/takeaway, it could be the perfect place to start a night out.
