As an educator, former dance instructor, and dancer myself for 20 years, I highly recommend Beth…read moreFowler School of Dance due to their focus on proper technique, the friendships the students develop, and the amazing performance opportunities provided for all studio dancers. Beth Fowler's 38 years of expertise as the studio owner, as well as her dedication as an instructor and as the artistic director, speak volumes of her as both a business owner and an artist! My six year old daughter has gained an incredible foundation of dance technique and performance experience in her three years at Beth Fowler School of Dance. During her first year in Creative Dance, she was taught by Miss Beth Fowler herself, whose energy and creativity abound with her students. For the past two years, Miss Allix, along with a few company dancer assistants, have been excellent teachers and role models for my daughter. My daughter has had the opportunity to participate in six stage productions in the past three years, including Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, a decade revue, as well as the Nutcracker Ballet each holiday season. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Beth knew that traditional productions would not be possible. As a result, she chose to invest both creatively and financially, hiring a movie producer to bring their Nutcracker performance to an unprecedented level, debuting as "The Nutcracker Movie". In addition to the magical story traditionally told through dance, Beth's movie version added dialogue, green screen effects, and special effects including adding snow to a scene filmed on a 70 degree day. It was truly magical and kids felt like stars seeing themselves on the big screen at the Egyptian Theater. They even had the opportunity to walk the red carpet and be interviewed by Miss Beth as they entered the theater for their big debut. My daughter played the part of a mouse, as well as a child in the Mother Ginger dance and absolutely loved her special parts. This has truly been one of the most amazing experiences for my daughter during this unprecedented time! I have also been very impressed with the precautions implemented by Beth Fowler Studio of Dance, given the COVID-19 pandemic. The St. Charles location of Beth Fowler has two studio spaces. The one my daughter dances in this year is absolutely HUGE, which not only allows for all dancers to remain socially distant, but also provides plenty of space for parents to watch their young dancers, also socially distanced, around the perimeter of the studio if they choose. They have followed the CDC recommendations through the various pandemic phases and currently masks are worn for all rehearsals by teachers, students, and parents alike. All dancers are welcome to join the classes via Zoom, instead of coming into the studio, if this is their family's preference. Beth also worked closely with the Egyptian Theater and county health department, committing to nine Nutcracker Movie viewings so that the audience could remain socially distant, keeping the theater at under 8% capacity for each showing! It has been amazing to watch my daughter's skill and confidence grow as a performer these last three years. And it is great to know that Beth Fowler School of Dance also offers both a dance company, as well as award winning competition teams, to keep the dancers engaged and challenged as they progress.

Tom is friendly and genuinely patient with students -- even when frustration sets in. He is very adept at keeping lessons encouraging. My daughters both take lessons and compete with Tom as well, and he does an excellent job tailoring instruction to fit their ages and skill levels. Whether you're looking to compete, prepare for a special occasion, or simply want to try something fun and new, Sterba's DanceSport is a fantastic place to learn. Highly recommend!

Location. Studio is sandwiched between a gambling place and a restaurant. Parking not great. You'll…read moreoften find beer bottles in parking lot. People smoking by studio door. Not the greatest location for a dance studio for girls. Staff. Cierra is the owner. She uses a yelling teaching method. I've seen kids coming out after class crying. Many kids (my own included) felt bad after class. Her conduct is why most people leave the studio. Tina is her mother & the face of the studio. You'll often hear Tina gossiping about other dance moms, kids and well her own family. Everyone is fair game. There are days you can walk into the studio and Tina is delightful. There are days you can walk in and she's in a bad mood and EVERYONE feels it. Classes. I originally signed up because I was told she did Saturday classes. That lasted 1 summer. When I'd ask about Saturday classes she said they didn't work in her studio due to no demand. Not a great class schedule for working parents. Competition Team. We really did enjoy the exposure to what competition dance scene looked like. Our 1st year on the team there were only 6 kids. Cierra really worked with this team and the dances were polished, clean and exciting to watch. The 2nd year the team tripled in size. Cierra was clearly in over her head. Dances not run enough to offer feedback or repetitive practice. Dances at 2nd year competition we're not stage ready. It was clear she needed more time to work with dancers. She didn't come up with solutions to offer the girls more opportunities by bringing in more help or offering another day so they had more time. Her ego gets in the way of what is best for her students. Events. She does studio parties. Those used to be free for company members and now it's a $20 fee. She participates in a parade. That usually requires heavy parent requirements. My favorite events were the Chicago Sky & Joliet baseball game. Events are unorganized. Parents would grumble about the late notifications and bad info. *Tip - Stay with your child at events. Cierra will say she's got everything under control and will bring your child back to you after the performance. She literally lost my child at the Chicago Sky stadium and didn't bring her back to the seats. A security guard brought her to me before I realized what happened. Be prepared to celebrate Tina/Cierra regularly. They have expectations that the dance family go big or go home when they want a celebration. Cierra will never thank you. If you provide her a gift at Christmas or heavily participate in her birthday extravaganza-there is never a thank you. You eventually realize that they simply expect people to bend over backwards for them. It's wild at the things they will ask for. COVID. I found her Zoom classes boring. She did zero creative items to keep kids engaged. I watched other studios online really keep their clients engaged and connecting. We watched Cierra for weeks sitting at her kitchen table via Zoom barking at our kids. We stopped Zooming in. It was daunting & boring. Final straw. I watched 5 families leave this studio in 1 year. That's HUGE turnover! The theme was the conduct & unprofessional behavior from Cierra and Tina. I have wanted to leave early in our 2nd year but vowed to finish our commitment on the competition team. Covid hit. Competitions and recital canceled. The parents all were anxiously awaiting refunds from recital costumes and competitions that canceled. Cierra put in writing to me that she never purchased costumes and never paid one the competitions. I was owed a refund of $285. She told me she spent all of that money on her personal bills and wouldn't be giving me a refund. I was supposed to accept that she needed to pay her bills and I basically needed to be fine forfeiting this money to her. So my advice is to RUN! She's a con artist. She will fraudulently spend parents money. You'll never get a proper invoice from her. She has no moral compass and runs an unethical business. The warning signs are all there. This studio is toxic. There are a MILLION studios out there. Do not go here. You'll find not many people stay here very long. Trust me when I say she is not a role model for young girls. Not unless you think stealing, unethical behavior and horrible conduct are values you'd like instilled in your child.

I expressed some conncern when I learned about a Manger leaving. I talked to her about some concerns of personal growth for our son and she had disregarded all of it as well you want this then you have to pay. Last week I was trying to work with the on site manager about maybe trying to have our son work with a teacher who can flip flop weeks through the month to teach piano and drums. As other students have been able to do this. Next thing I get is an email - we no longer want your business basically because they didn't like constructive criticism of suggestions from a loyal paying customer wanting to grow their child's musical talents. When I called the office the manager tried telling me its because I yelled at teachers on multiple occasions. Lie! I have gone in only speaking with the manager and with kindness but expressed some frustration. I was told she will get back to me as things are changing around here. So my 12 yr old son who was exited to start a new band, instead I had to be tell him that the school of rock terminated our business!
