Not only has she taught me many ways to build back up my strength, but shared a ton of new ideas to strengthen my core, etc. to manage this back injury moving forward. Via in person, emails AND print outs. Meredith makes my sessions fly by bc she chats with me and kept up a positive attitude of how I WILL get back to being my active self...but that I needed to learn that slow and steady really is the way to do it. First off, I still give LSF PT five stars. Their location is great, I enjoy their awesome gym, and the people that work there are great. If you are busy, already a member at this gym, it's a great choice. And thanks to this place, I met Meredith. Meredith was the star who helped me get through some tough nagging injuries - so I felt compelled to state that she moved on from this location. She really went the extra mile and I mean, look at all the reviews she's garnered for this business, that's saying something. If you aren't necessarily set on being inside the gym and want someone with an awesome reputation, look her up. At the end of the day, either LSF or Meredith are great choices and FAR superior to the greedy corporate chain in the greater Chicago area, so I am happy to keep my five star review of LSF PT.

A client of mine has a good experience with their masseuse here to relieve a neck kink, so I went in to try for my shoulder. Dr. Tavenner insisted on seeing me first even though I had chosen to just pay out of pocket for the massage. After filling out many forms, he had me lie down face up on the chiropractic table, when he flipped me over onto my stomach to poke around, he pulled down my pants at the end of the exam to take a peak. What the??? So unnecessary & inappropriate. I've been to about 10 different chiropractors over the years, & nobody has done anything like this. Despite feeling violated, I proceeded to go and get the massage. The masseuse was so socially awkward. Talked way too much & was sweating the whole time. I usually like to chat, but something just felt like he didn't know what he was doing. I see he's left the office since, but I would stay very far away from this chiropractor. The front office lady was very nice & helpful, but in the end I paid about $260 out of pocket for this dreadful experience!

One of the main draws to his practice is the amount of different services he provides. Whether it's a chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture, cupping, massage, or physical therapy - his office is a one-stop-shop for relieving your pain and keeping it at bay. I am a graphic designer who works remotely, so I spend the entire day hunched over a computer. My back is chronically knotted and tense, so I really need someone who can dig in and do whatever it takes to relieve the pain. He not only gives a chiropractic adjustment, he has taught me some invaluable PT exercises that have turned into daily habits, and got me into cupping - which uses negative pressure to release tension in my neck and back. Something to do with the negative pressure really seems to loosen me up - in ways that even massage (positive pressure) cannot. Never would have figured that out if it wasn't for Dr. Backhaus. The cherry on top is that I have never felt like he has tried to overcharge me, exaggerate my condition, or get me on some expensive payment plan (that so many other pushy chiropractors try to do.) He simply had me try all the different services he offers, and I pick the things that are the most effective for me. Background: I had been struggling with lower back pain for about twenty years. I started to develop…read morepain associated with Sciatica about two years ago. It got to the point where it would take me thirty seconds to sit or stand. It was BAD. I tried chiro, PT, accupuncture. Each offered a modicum of relief, but there was no clear path forward to relief. Nobody ever suggested that I could fully recover from it. I was totally frustrated and the other folks I talked to who had sciatica all "got over it" through surgery. No thank you. After about five months of appointments and continuing decline, I had a friend recommend Mark and Total Training. Present day: I just completed a 5k last week - a HUGE milestone. I'm 100% pain free, can play with my kids anywhere/anytime. I share the credit with Mark at Total Training: The process he took me through made me whole again. While it may feel a bit hokey at the beginning, I'm a complete believer. MAT basically says that if your muscles are not firing properly then your skeleton won't be lined up as it should and as such your body won't work as you like it. Compensation by other muscles trying to do the work of muscles that are not working ultimately lead to deterioration of your body's condition. It took about five months of weekly visits to get to a place where I was feeling significantly better. It took about a year to get to where I'm at today. I just changed from weekly appointments to biweekly. I'll probably continue to see Mark biweekly for another three to six months and then stick to a regimen of monthly visits. As Mark states: If your muscles have been compromised for ten or twenty years (which mine were), you're not going to see any lasting overnight solution. The solution comes with time, making sure the muscles are activated, that they stay online, and that you train them enough to support your lifestyle. You can't fix this stuff overnight. SO here's the scoop: I spend $7k with Mark over the course of a year to avoid surgery, fix lower back issues, remedy sciatica. That's priceless! I'd gladly pay double to get the results I did.
