A sedentary job and an overindulgent diet weren't doing my figure any favors. In the past, I've been one of those people who gets bored easily with one type of exercise- I had done a couch to 5k program, only to promptly revert to couch potato status after completing it. Considering my husband once jokingly said that one of my favorite hobbies is sleeping, motivating myself to stick to a class that meets 3 times a week at 6 AM, rain or shine, seemed pretty unlikely. But there was a Yelp deal, so I figured that I'd give it a go. Surprisingly, I'm going into my 3rd month of Evolve Bootcamp, and I don't want to quit. Shelley is a creative and knowledgeable coach, and I find that I am never bored thanks to the wide variety of exercises that she incorporates into the classes. And the workouts are effective and will get you results. My cardiovascular fitness and strength have noticeably improved. I feel less sluggish and more alert at work. My family has remarked that they've seen a positive change in the way my body looks, and that feels awesome! The classes are small enough where everyone gets personal attention. Shelley will correct your form if needed so that you stay safe, and she will definitely provide modifications if it looks like you're not being challenged enough (nobody gets off easy). The fellow bootcampers are laid back, and unlike upscale fitness studios, nobody cares what you're wearing, how old or young you are, or whether you're a gal or a guy. If you're considering attending, DO IT! Logistical notes: 1) There is a place where you can safely store a small bag (ie: change of clothes) if needed. I have to go to work immediately after the morning sessions, so not being able to bring a bag would be a dealbreaker for me. 2) Be prepared to get very sweaty and possibly dirty. 3) Prices, especially for returning bootcampers, are excellent compared to other area bootcamps.

She mixes up the exercises and really focuses on movements that provide equivalent results to workouts I have done using machines or weights at the gym. I felt and saw results after just a few classes. Shelley really pays attention to form and demonstrates each movement and gives tips on how to do the workouts safely. I cannot think of a better way to get to know the green spaces in Boston than working out with Shelley and fellow bootcampers!

She is a personal trainer and I am signed up for two different fitness classes throughout the week so the pace of the class worked well for us and was a great challenge. While it was a great workout, I can't even tell you what was going on in that 50 minutes. The music was unbearably loud. The instructor's mic was even louder and all any of it sounded like was noise. The coach was fine, but he didn't really coach? Everyone was expected to be doing the same thing, which is unrealistic. From my perspective, if you don't run, there's no point in taking the class because Barry's coaches the treadmill for runners only? The most unique part of our Barry's journey was the fact that no one wiped down equipment... no one wiped down their treadmill after we switched to the floor and I understood this until the END. I assumed we all would wipe EVERYTHING down at the end. Nope. Everyone just walked out. My friend and I stayed after to change and freshen up, but I never saw anyone go in and wipe any equipment down. That's kind of gross but what do I know? We should we wiping down equipment throughout class just to be safe rather than sorry. I know I would be open to taking another class, but still would love to know how these classes are formatted because it feels like the coach is just shouting random things and you kinda have to keep up or you're screwed.

Same idea with a megaformer and low impact, high intensity moves that leave you sweating, so it just all depends on what vibe you like more! I like that the megaformer offers variety even within one workout and coming to a studio like this offers movements and workouts that you cannot easily replicate at home. Plus, small class sizes (12 people max?) offer the boutique experience. The instructor was able to provide hands-on modifications and demonstrate the moves on an unoccupied reformer but that would be more difficult if the class was fuller. It seems they have days focusing on different body parts, so depending on which day you choose, you may get less arm workouts but more core and legs or vice versa. Not sure if that information is on the website but there is a calendar with the schedule in the studio. Tip: - There is no warm-up so be on time! - Bring a water bottle and towel if you sweat easily like I do. - Would recommend good sticky socks so you have more stability, especially when you start sweating on your platform. - A great way to try out the class is with one of the $5 teacher-in-training classes!

Hmm yeah, I completely was WRONG as she definitely kicked my butt at the first class she taught. She is also the best running coach I've ever met as I never liked to run due to my left knee. She has definitely taught me how to run better since then although I still haven't developed the love towards running. LOL. She is a great trainer to have since she is willing to learn about each client's needs and will never let her or him quit but will push her or him beyond the limit. I do like her hardcore style but yet very encouraging. Another great thing about Barbara is that she is very knowledgeable of nutrition on top of the fitness knowledge. With that said, I do highly recommend her to anyone with any fitness levels!!! The bonus for training with her is that I get to play with her lab, BUTTER from times to times :)

Conveniently located near the hotel, it was short walk and easy to find. The gym is a the typical box, gritty and the look of a hard workout is about to happen here. I was the first to arrive and immediately greeted by coach Eric. He quickly checked me in and I made them aware of needing modifications on certain movements. He gave me some stretches I can use. The class was composed of warm up/agility, stretching, strength training and finally the WOD. The coach did not assume I knew the movements which I appreciated and he showed us proper form for every movement. We used agility hurdles to warm up with burpee penalty for knocking down the hurdles, which is good practice in discipline. I felt warmed up after the hurdles having to fulfill burpee penalties twice. Then we used foam roller, kettle bell and racquet ball to warm up and shoulder mobility. We spent a good 20 minutes for warm up and mobility which is helpful and much needed. Strength training was another 20 minutes of push press. The coach was helpful in making sure our form was correct and efficient. I felt more accomplished in getting the form right and he made sure of that. Finally, our WOD was a challenging chipper with 3 movements at high reps. It was daunting at first and I was gassed but I got through it with the coach's encouragement. The coach was motivating without being militant. It is obvious the gym does well in providing top notch instuction. Limiting their class size provides the individualized attention needed to avoid poor form and injuries. CFF is great for any fitness level and makes crossfit an attainable activity for anyone.
