I take the train into the city to North Station, get a workout in, and then walk to my office. I appreciate not having to commute well out of my way for the gym and this is one of the best parts of my day. The staff is very nice and the gym is clean and well kept. There are a ton of dumbbells and cardio machines. The weight lifting machines aren't as plentiful, but you're still able to get some reps in, especially if you go early in the AM (I'm usually there before 7). The locker rooms are good and spacious enough -- I've never had to wait for a shower and there is always room to get ready. Thanks to Republic for helping me stay consistent with my fitness! PS - the check-in process is also very smooth and easy, you just sign in through a Apple wallet badge and you're in!

I ended up enlisting in private 1-on-1 training with the owner, Chris. From the start Chris was able assess that my posture and mobility needed improving. He set me up with exercises and dynamic stretches to help me. As my form got better, we started incorporating more strength exercises. A year later, my posture is 100x better than it was, my neck pain has disappeared, and best part of all, being strong and fit has become part of my lifestyle. I've gone from being able to barely do 5 pushups to doing 15. I'm stronger, I'm leaner, I'm more flexible, and as of late, I feel like my body can accomplish more than it ever has. I give all the credit to Chris for his guidance and patience in teaching me how not only lift using proper form, but in how to work on the best exercises that increase my mobility and ability for years to come. This experience has been a life changer. In addition to the 1-on-1 one classes, I've occassionally attended Redemption's group classes which are incredibly challenging, thoughtfully planned, and really fun! I feel so fortunate to have some a valuable resource in my neighborhood.

I never took classes (only used the treadmill) so can't speak to those. As soon as the new owner started, my friends and I got a really weird vibe. In one forced personal training session while doing pushups, he said "I should be able to see your cleavage." We were later told it wasn't clear to anyone if he had his personal training certificate. Regardless, just a weird and inappropriate thing to say to ladies just minding their own business. He continued to just hang around creepily, sometimes butting in mid-sprint to ask random questions. In the end, my friends and I ended up cancelling our memberships because of the owner. I was able to bow out after a month, but my friend who had joined after new ownership had to pay a ridiculous penalty for breaking the contract. Who did we need to complain to in order to avoid the fine? The owner. So my friend just ended up eating the money. If you're a woman who loves the gym as a break from the drama, I'd suggest going somewhere else.

That is per year! All told they wanted to charge $3780 per year when my friend pays $2520 per year. On top of that they wanted to charge me $8160 for 48 training sessions which is $170/hr. I would have more than likely paid for the trainers because they are known for this, but when they cannot give you a similar rate to what others are paying because they think you have the money is ridiculous. Especially when you are prepared to spend $8160 on just the PT. All told that is $11940 for 16 weeks of PT and one year at the gym. That is a lot of money for anyone to put down. With this amount of money I was able to get two weeks of health spa vacations in La Jolla, CA and I am talking to several independent trainers that have made names for themselves in the area and will get 16 weeks from them. It took me a bit to find out who is who and who the best PT trainers are in the area. Certainly not at Equinox since the trainer they were going to assign me too you cannot find any information about them. So for me I am now spending ... $280 at Planet Fitness for Black Card $4320 for 48 PT session, plus 3 more for free $6400 for two weeks at an all-inclusive health resort in CA $560 for round trip tickets Total all together is $11560 which is $380 less and much more enjoyable than Equinox. Let's check the checklist. 1) Year long gym membership with access to every gym at Planet Fitness has around the world 2) 16 weeks, 3 days a week of PT training with a top trainer 3) 2 weeks at a health spa resort 4) Oh yeah, traveling to California On a related note, I was a member of this gym years ago. They played funny games with me where they allowed people that live more than a certain distance away to get out of their contract with no problems. I was well beyond that distance. Instead, they changed my address to their location at 225 Franklin Street and tried to tell me I was not able to get out of the gym membership because I lived at the same building as the gym. I had to report them to the attorney general to get out of the membership. I would not have gone back if it hadn't been so many years and my business partner and life coach recommended that I go for the PT. Just goes to show that a leopard cannot change their spots. Avoid this gym! There are better gyms out there.

Super clean, luxury gym. The staff is nice, always friendly and welcoming, and easy to "check-in"…read moreon the app (instead of at the front desk each time). When you join, you get $100 for the Equinox store (carry all major brands), and a free personal pilates session and a private PT session. I will point out they really PUSHED signing up for both after I completed my first sessions, which was annoying. I simply stated that private PT sessions are always super expensive, and on top of a gym membership would be way too much. Instead of accepting that, they pushed (in person and by email) to sign up for "just 2-3/week". I did not appreciate that in the beginning (lucky for them I was under a 1 year contract and couldn't leave just for that). They have something to offer everyone in the way of classes- pilates, cycling, yoga, running, and all types of HIIT. Absolutely loved some of the HIIT classes I took; the downfall is they have very limited times (during the week the latest class is 6:30 pm, and 5:30 pm on Friday). The popular classes get filled up FAST, within 15 minutes (you can set a reminder but if you're not available to book you're out of luck). Weekends also have very limited classes (only in the am). The gym itself is nice, lots of equipment available, pretty small floor space though and can get packed certain days/times. They do a great job of having clean sweat towels (and cool sweat towels) available and the gym is always super clean; they actually mop after each and every class, and spray down equipment. Gym, bathrooms, and showers are always very clean. Although a bit overpriced, they do offer spa services (facials, massages, etc.) and private training sessions (including for pilates). This location also offers a free steam room (other downtown location has a sauna as well), free lockers, and Kiehls products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash). I always appreciate they have little items available for after the shower- hair ties, q-tips, mouthwash, hair dryer, lotion, etc. Downstairs they have a juice bar, again with weird hours. Overall, I love the gym, just wish they offered more classes.

Pat/Mo/Jordan, and all the instructors have tailored the workouts by giving me modified exercises, helped me with my form, and made me feel like I can do it! After the first two months of working out, and getting stronger, my pain started to go away! (Did I mention that I have not been pain free in 11 years!) I actually started to feel stronger, and see results I had not seen since my accident. The best part of my whole time at lifted fitness is I have been sleeping through the night, pain free, for the first time since my car accident! Skip it. I paid 70$…read morefor a spa pedicure that lasted 32 minutes. When I came out I even asked the receptionist--"was that the spa pedicure?" "yes". Wow. The services menu lists the spa pedicure at 60 minutes, so I was ripped off. The "spa pedicure" entails nail trimming, some foot buffing, about 45 seconds of foot massage, and a polish application. The woman who did my pedicure was very friendly and I hate to penalize her-in a place like this you do what the big boss tells you. But I could have paid $30 for a MUCH better pedicure at a strip mall Asian nail place in the suburbs.

Consider me greatly unimpressed. I had such high hopes for the Mayflower Massage and Spa Pedicure…read morethat perhaps that's why I felt let down by my experience? Who knows. But after hearing people rave about this place for a while I kind of expected something more. First impression: I'm paying how much for this massage and they can't even give me a robe that isn't scratchy? I realize swedish massage is used to release toxins and get relaxed, but it HURT. Not necessarily in the "let's work this stress out of your back" pain, but "holy shit, this woman is going to break my ribs" pain. I've never felt like this on previous massages. On parts of my body that aren't as delicate as a ribcage, I can deal with the pain and actually prefer a deep tissue massage to a soft, stroking one. It also didn't help that I was REALLY put off by my masseuse within the first 20 minutes. Not only could I feel her fingernails digging into my body, but she started to comment on how my tattoos on my back were faded. They're almost 15 years old and I just haven't made touching them up a priority. No need for you to go on and on about them. The foot massage was great, but that was the only part I really felt made a difference. Spending $70 on a Spa Pedicure was a joke. The girl I had working on my feet was awesome, so I don't want to short change her-- she's probably why I've given the extra star. I was VERY underwhelmed by the actual service. I don't know if it's because I came from a massage, but I didn't get much of a leg massage. I also felt short-changed on the most important part of a pedicure: removal of dead skin. Really? Just a quick buffing? Did you see what my feet looked like? I know this is gross, but I run and toenails being missing or blisters the size of a Caribbean island are the norm. Work that shit out. I'm going to you because it's not something I can do myself. On a plus, the paint job looked nice. About a week later...My body HURTS. HURTS. As a regular with acupuncture and massage, I'm used to cleansing. What I wasn't ready for is how my ribs are bruised and it hurts to sneeze. My quads/hamstrings spasm regularly, as if part of the muscle was massaged and the other half is compensating for the loose part. I've never felt like this post-massage. NEVER. My pedicure... meh. I still can't believe I paid $70 for this. The dry skin is back to its plan of overtaking my feet, and aside for the nails being painted a neat color? Looks just like it did when I walked through the door. I'd rather go to a mall chain for $25 and have the same result. Take home message? I would pass. I'm sure there are other equally-priced places in the city to have massages/pedicures that would offer a better experience.
