I went back today to get a link added back to my watch band, and was helped by a man named Judah (I am resisting referring to him as a boy because I am 95% sure he's at least around my age).
Lost in my own little world, as per usual, I had idly taken note of a younger employee standing on the opposite side of the store when I walked in, but inched toward Expensive Watch Guy, who was busy helping someone else. This "inching" happened in the form of wandering from counter to counter, helplessly distracted and compelled by each thing that glinted in my line of vision. Suddenly someone approached me and asked if he could help.
I babble a lot, so I think I inadvertently suggested to Judah that I had gotten fat since I bought the watch that I did, because he grinned sympathetically and added, "I totally understand!" when I rambled that my watch "used to fit, but no longer does, because...well, it doesn't matter," because my fitness regimen causing manlier wrists is not important to this person. (I have been accused of over-explaining a lot in life. Is this aside proof?) I did end up mentioning the watch stopped fitting after returning to my workouts, and he sweetly mentioned how he'd been kind of pleased when that happened to him before, since it shows progress, but that it means your watch no longer fits.
It's possible that Movado suggests sales associates mimic their customers to make them feel more comfortable, because when he returned, he babbled a little, too, forgetting to unclasp the watch before checking the fit for me, and unsure whether he'd done what I asked or the exact opposite, likely because I spoke in circles - everything was fine. After this, because I am either a magpie or a fish and am attracted to shiny objects, I asked him to show me a few other watches that I admitted I didn't like but wanted to try, and he humored me, patiently and politely.
If I'm ever rich, I will have so many Movado watches from this place because all their employees so far are fantastic. This is not a general statement because I've stopped by the one at Woodbury Commons and was inspired to leave :( read more
