Hello y'all, just an update on our experience with mountain top adventures. So our first 3 days there out of 7 our unit had no air conditioning. The air conditioning was out on the third day. The electricity went out and spoiled all of the food that we were cooking the whole time we were there. My son was making videos of the rats that were coming out from underneath the sink and going around the cabinet and eating our dog food and then whenever we left there we got an additional $300 cost and getting rid of all of the bed bugs that we got while we received while we were staying in their cabins. I have made several attempts to reach out to the company to get some kind of refund for our stay and the arrogant owner or his staff never even took the time to call us back. They laughed on our face and told us they would not give us any kind of refund and if we don't come back they don't care. Unfortunately, sometimes when you travel from Texas all the way up to like West Virginia and you don't know anybody. You don't know who to choose and we made the worst choice we could have. There are other companies out there that have amazing people and they take care of their people. I just wish we would have chosen differently. The only thing good about our experience was the young lady that cleaned and service the units. Her name was Sissy. She was an amazing and she tried to help us the best she could. But when you work for a company that's in control she had no control but she tried so. Thank you Sissy........... P.S. The only reason I gave this company a one star. I gotta share this. We stayed this weekend in the A frame going into Gilbert in the curve. That little building is older than I am. We paid for two nights. $344.00. On the first full day there yesterday the toilet flapper broke. We called Mountain Top Adventures yesterday to ask them to come fix it. We emailed them last night. Nothing. No response. This morning, 16 hours after we called and emailed the rental, they showed up as we were leaving and was angry about My Google review of this business this morning. Not bothering to return our requests to come fix the one toilet in this tiny cabin. The guy in the red truck immediately called me a quote, "entitled PRICK" for daring to ask for the toilet to be fixed 16 hours ago. Pretty much the worst customer service from a rental company or leasing agency in my life. I've stayed in Dallas, Denver, DC, Orlando and many other places. I was embarrassed that these Gilbert business owners would treat people from out of town like this. I'm from there. He didn't know I grew up four miles away from this cabin in Verner. He even said he was going to charge me a maintenance fee because we broke the flapper chain LOL. They won't refund my deposit. Keeping my $100 deposit over a $2 toilet flapper chain. These people are crooks. If you're from out of town, then they hate you. Whatever family in Gilbert is running Mountain Top Adventures should be ashamed of themselves. They can keep my measly $100 deposit. I'll never stay in Gilbert again. read more

Cameron and his staff were very nice people and helped explain to us amateurs the do's and dont's of riding. We stayed at the Ellis lodge which is perfect location to this place (right across the street) . The only downside we had was it took a group of 8 1 hour+ to go through all the paperwork. While multiple people waited behind us . If someone can help streamline this payment and waiver process this place would easily get 5 stars. It seemed like Cameron was the only person who could do it. That being said we would still come back to these guys in a heart beat. Thanks for a hell of a experience!! read more

Our group arrived to West Va from out of state. The company we had booked our machines through failed to communicate that they couldn't honor our reservation due to a broken down machine and wanted us to take a downgrade at the same price. This was told to us at pick up time. Luckily the clerk at the store next door suggested I call Mountaintop Adventures. The lady at Mountaintop assured me they had machines available immediately for rent. She was kind, courteous and accommodating. She went over the details and had us booked with delivery to our resort in no time. Our machine was delivered on time. It was clean and in excellent working order. The delivery guy was thorough and did a proper run down of the machine and answered all questions. We had an absolute blast and were 100% impressed with the company and their machine. Unfortunately on our last day we had an accident on the trail...no fault of machine or driver, for that matter. Upon calling the company to inform them ahead of pick up time, the woman's first question was, "are you ok?" This is the type of business we would like to deal with. They understand their business and they're professional and kind to their customers. Our concern was that we'd be charged the full amount quoted on our contract for any repairs...because we've heard horror stories about other places. We were pleased to know that we were only being charged for the actual damage costs and not being taken advantage of. At the end of the day we were totally impressed with every interaction. It's easy to say a company does well when all things go perfectly, however when you hit snags and the company still exceeds expectations, it's an indication that you're dealing with a stand up business. I highly recommend Mountaintop Adventures for your rentals while visiting the trails in West Virginia. Businesses like this deserve to stay busy and build their customer base. read more

Drove to W Va to go off road with a rented side by side from this company. We had a lot of fun. The trails were active but not overly crowded. We got lost on the trails and others were helpful in navigating us back to the correct trail. The company requires customers to refill the gas tank and wash the vehicle before returning the rental which means driving it into town and to two separate locations in town. It felt like it was a lot to expect re the car wash after a $500 a day rental. However, that was the only negative in an otherwise good experience. read more

Just returned from a 2-day rental of Kawasaki TerryX. It wasn't cheap to rent this machine, but it was in great shape and did not disappoint on the trail. Great power, great grip, tires were in excellent shape and overall process of renting and returning was super easy. It is true they expect you to wash and refuel, but ATV-friendly wash is a short run away and so is a gas station, so no problem at all. I would definitely recommend this business for ATV rental. Absolute blast on the HMC Trails! read more

Stole my deposit... I called weeks in advance to edit my reservation which was a mandatory $900 deposit at the time. The woman I spoke to said that she would pass this along and they would get back to me they failed to do so. I called a week or so later and I felt confident the change was made. Days upon my arrival I learned that the change was not made and then made that change at the time. I asked about the rescheduling policy multiple times and the questions were never answered. at the end of my rental I was billed $700 worth of time I did not use. i've reached out multiple times to resolve this and will not get a return phone call. as a business owner it is a shame the way they have handle this. if someone from management is reading this and would like to reach out to square this away please do so and I will remove this review. read more

Mountaintop Adventures is the absolute best in the business when it comes to side by side rentals. They were able to accommodate rentals for my group of 18 that went down to WV for my bachelor party. We had a flat on the trails with one of the side by sides and they were there within 30 minutes, changed the tire and we were back up and running. I received a lot of feedback from my group and they absolutely loved this trip I arranged. Highly recommend 10/10. read more

WE WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK! We loved it! I took my son and it was our first time riding side by sides. We rented a side by side and had a blast! Cameron and his family/staff were extremely nice and professional! We planned it as a last minute trip and I was worried we wouldn't have a place to stay, but as soon as I got there, their cabins were booked but they called around in Gilbert and found us a room! This guided tour was just about perfect up until it got dark, and then our experience was almost ruined. My husband and I rented a side-by-side from this company. It performed well enough for the trails and we were comfortable with it. Everyone else in our group had their own machines except for one pair who rented the same type of machine we had. Throughout the day the trails, scenic points, and stops were wonderful. The only stop that was rushed was the lunch time stop. We barely had enough time to eat before the group was on the move again. The other stops at the historic and scenic spots during the day were great, though, with ample time provided to explore on foot. Our guide told us that we would be concluding the tour at the moonshine distillery in Gilbert around 6 pm where we could stay and hang out if we wanted and we where we could part ways. We didn't arrive at the distillery until 8:30 pm. At this point my husband and I were exhausted and cold from riding the trails for 2 hours in the dark with limited vision. We had no idea that we would be driving on trails in the dark and we were not happy about this part of the tour at all. We were often left behind by the guides and/or others in the tour, but at some point someone always stopped to wait for us. But, we were largely "on our own" on the trails at night. We were first-timers at this, so this made us very uncomfortable. By the time we got to the distillery (which closed at 8 pm), the person running it was intoxicated. We quickly bought our gifts of moonshine and left. Our plan was to have dinner at the Trail 12 BBQ after our tour ended. The website posted the closing time at 10 pm so we thought we had plenty of time even though were were getting there much later than expected. However, when we finally got back up to Twin Hollow where the BBWQ , it was 8:45 pm and they were closing at 9 pm! Fortunately, the ladies working there were kind enough to make us some sandwiches and desserts to take with us back to our inn. We turned in our machine, bought some souvenirs, and left. The tour throughout the day was fantastic. Our biggest complaint was the after-dark riding on trails. What was also a huge concern was the allowance of the consumption of alcohol while driving the machines. Almost everyone in our guided tour (not us!) was consuming alcohol...drivers AND passengers. This was very upsetting to us and we were shocked that this was allowed...especially since the trails and landscape being navigated was not easy terrain. The other issue I had was how often we were driving on regular roads and highways. This made me very uncomfortable. While it was legal to do in these parts, I didn't like driving on the main roadways due to the high speeds and being close to other vehicles. Our tour guide stressed many times to wait for each other at trail and road intersections and not let each other get behind or "lost". This advice was sometimes taken, but mostly was not followed during the night time riding. At this point, my husband and I were angry that safety was not a priority, especially at night time. I wish they would have given us the option to continue the tour after dark or to go back to Gilbert. We definitely would have gone back to Gilbert to the distillery and to have dinner. The machine we rented was fine, but it did not have a windshield. This was also fine, however, the helmets they rented us were not full face covered helmets. They also did not rent us goggles. We highly suggest making full helmets and goggles available to rent. My last suggestion is to book your groups according to experience. We were one of the only ones in our group that had no prior experience driving/riding these machines, so naturally we were slower and more cautious. It was evident that everyone else in our tour had prior experience as almost all had their own machines. It would have been nice to be booked with a group that was more similar to our experience level. The tour could have easily been broken up into 2 or 3 groups according to experience level. This would also have allowed us to not get "left behind" so much by the group and guides. Had safety been more of a priority, we would be giving a better rating for this company. The best campsite in the area and the most professional management. This is our second time here. It is a family owned and operated place and it shows that they take great pride in what they do. Everything is well thought out and built. The best part is that the trail head is actually part of the campground. The ATV rental is the best in the area and they are very flexible and accommodating. The side by sides we rented were very clean and well maintained. Pro tip....don't ride on the grass areas, they don't like that...at all!
