This place is fantastic. We drive by every time we're on the way back driving from Clermont to Brooksville, and we go out our way to stop. We always recommend it for folks who head out in that direction. The chai lattes are fabulous and highly recommended. Sweet but not overly so. My husband tried their regular black coffee and said it was very good. This last trip, we ended up with delicious blueberry donuts that actually exploded with blueberry flavor when you bit into them. I enjoy patronizing independent coffee houses over the well-known chain. This was my first visit to the Mountaineer; [[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor is warm and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful, answering my questions and making suggestions. The beverage was very good and the pastries looked delicious, but those will have to wait until my next visit, which I am looking forward to having soon. read more

When they first opened, they burnt the coffee they roasted, but it is definitely better now. It seems like don't roast that often so you can't get recently roasted coffee all the time. The coffee they had today was roasted 16 days ago. Lots of the good stuff in coffee dies off in 6-7 days and ends up giving you a cleaner buzz. I Just got a cold brew today and they added milk to it, probably out of habit, rather than the splash of vanilla I requested, but I didn't have time to wait and have them remake. Oh well. Coffee tasted much better than when they first opened, and I will test it out again soon when I am not in a hurry. read more

Although I did like the taste of the espresso, I'm pretty sure it didn't have the amount of shots I had requested in my Americano. I'm hoping my bad experience with someone overwhelmed behind the counter was a "one-off", however, I'll not return to see if it was just a one time bad service moment. I was rather angrily and bluntly told to hurry up because she had a line and I wasn't grabbing the cup fast enough (my arthritis was acting up badly & I had been driving for 7 hours straight so I was definitely going slow but not so slow I needed to be reprimanded). I'd also like to note, there were only 2 other car customers and a walk up landing at the window while I was being reprimanded- I was there a total of 7 minutes including my wait time for her (my response to the request for a moment was "absolutely no problem"). I do wish I hadn't tipped her before the reprimand but I'd never ask for it back, I just left and will go to the gas station for coffee next time. read more

This is going to be corrective criticism, starting with the positives. I typically would have given a 3 or lower for the issue we had, but everything else was SO good, y'all got bumped. I wish I could give 5*. Positives: The coffees the 3 of us got were delicious! The pop tarts were all fabulous! Light and crispy. Flavorful! We tried 4 different filling flavors and all were amazing. Tastes like a way better version of the store kind. The staff was nice and service was fast and efficient. We also ordered 3 croissant sandwiches. After asking clearly if it was "turkey bacon" we got it on it. It is NOT turkey bacon so if you don't eat pork, do NOT get bacon here. They had turkey AND bacon on them. NOT ok!!! None of us eat pork and therefore threw away $$$ because the menu and the employee did not separate the words "turkey" and "bacon". One bite told us it was pork. This is the reason they did not receive 5*. Be conscientious of the fact that some people (lots) only eat turkey bacon, not pork. This can seriously affect people for religious and cultural reasons. Please do better. If I choose to stop again, I hope I am able to amend this review to a 5*. read more

I love Mountaineer Coffee. Up until recently, it was basically the only non-corporate coffee shop I would patronize in Hernando County. There was another coffee shop somewhere closer to Spring Hill that closed but I never went because I heard the owners were like pro-Jan 6 Insurrection or something and loudly hated liberals. So I never bothered going. For a while, this was my only game in town, and It's 25 minutes from my house. I love the vibes of Mountaineer Coffee. It's situated perfectly in downtown Brooksville, which isn't a very vibrant place, but there are sidewalks so you could walk around a little I guess. Inside there are tagbles, comfy chairs, and a little shop with local art and trinkets. The coffee flavors are amazing, even when I get a black cold brew. read more

I had no idea this place existed until I went to a retirement party. There were a dozen homemade pop tarts in various flavors. They all were gone in seconds. I've been getting a dozen, dropping them off at my wife and daughter's work,as well as my doctor's office. Not something to do all the time. They are 3.00$ each. But definitely delicious. I've not had their coffee or tea, but looks like a great place for a time out to read or surf the web. Staff is very nice and friendly place is very clean. read more

This is like an unexpected gem in Brooksville. I ended up here looking while looking for donuts on my way home. They did not have donuts but they did have pop pastry's and burritos (which were just as delicious as donuts). I got an iced americano and a strawberry pop pastry hoping it would be okay and it was DELICIOUS. I ate half and then ordered a breakfast burrito and it was just as delicious. It had the right amount of meat to egg ratio I was actually very impressed if I'm being honest. Knowing that this place is a short 15 minute ride from home is kind of dangerous. Both locations are fabulous! This is For the new one on the west side of brooksville. Every time I come back from that end of town, I try to stop for a cup of black coffee. Passing through the area and have heard a lot about this place. It did not disappoint! We tried a Large Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte iced and one hot with a total cost around $11. Both are delicious! I like that is a local owned business that also sells different roasted beans. There is also a cold case with other offered beverages. There is a separate room called "the market" with different products for sale. This particular location is open daily 7am-7pm. On Fridays at 7pm, they turn into a bar and stay open until 10:30pm. Met a couple of coworkers here for a pit-stop in between appointments. Kind of refuel ourselves before continuing our day. The café is in downtown Brooksville with little parking nearby. Its a small hometown cafe with a trendy vibe. Not much on the menu and they have room to grow and expand. I had an iced tea but would have loved something sweet or savory to snack on along with my iced tea... perhaps cake pops, danish, or slice of cake. The iced tea was ok. I could've asked for less sweetener and maybe a flavoring. Because this was a one-time visit, the folks were nice, and it was quiet enough to have a conversation, I'll give them a 4-star. I hope they have an opportunity to grow their menu offerings and keep big box brands from coming to the historic downtown area. read more

Have come in a few times when I'm in town. One of the better coffee shops in the area. They also have a mean chai and dirty chai latte. The Peru espresso blend is absolutely exquisite. I believe they used to be 12 oz bags maybe I'm tripping but 10 oz for $15 would be more painful if it wasn't so good. Been wanting to come here for quite some time and so glad we finally did! Location is easily accessible by Main St Brooksville! Decor is definitely hipster meets boho vide, gives off a very comfortable feeling. There is lots of seating available! They also have a little market available as well! We had the Iced Chai Latte and it was so good! Possibly the best one I ever had! We also had the Nutella pop tart, baked oats and blueberry muffin. The pop tart and baked oats were absolute delicious! Unfortunately I was not a fan of the blueberry muffin but my son was and ate the whole thing! Service was quick and friendly. Moutaineer Coffee is a quaint little coffee shop/coffee roaster in downtown Brooksville. The shop itself takes a minimalist approach. It is sparsely decorated, with lots of open space. Mountaineer definitely lets their products do the talking. When you enter the front door, you will find yourself in the main seating area. Straight ahead is the ordering counter. Above it you will find the prices and products listed on large scrolls of paper. On your left, along the wall, Mountaineer has a few shelves of products that you can take home. There is a BBQ rub with Mountaineer coffee in it, some local honey, take home bags of roasted Mountaineer coffee and some Mountaineer swag (cups, t-shirts, hats). To the right of the counter is a small cooler that has a few prepackaged food items, bottled water, Mother Kombucha and juice and chocolate milk for the kiddos. There is also an additional seating area that can be rented out and a kitchen area where they prep their homemade baked goods. Mountaineer coffee makes a good vegan latte. They offer three alternative milks: soy, almond and oat (yes!). The prices are very competitive to what you will pay at other local coffee shops in the Tampa region. So what sets Mountaineer apart from other coffee shops? Well, for one, they have their ten thousand dollar roaster just sitting in a back room that you are free to go look at. Call it a self guided tour for the coffee nerds. This was a pretty awesome piece of uniqueness. Now, I can't say I knew what I was looking at, I wish the tour guide on my self guided tour had a bit more knowledge to dish my way, but still, it was fun to walk in and smell what Mountaineer was roasting. A second thing that sets Mountaineer apart is they serve homemade pop tarts. My kids went crazy for them. We purchased a strawberry version and a Nutella one and they were both gone in no time. They have a nice ratio of filling and pastry and are topped with a tiny bit of icing. Despite the roaster tour and homemade pop tarts, the biggest reason to visit Mountaineer coffee, is still the coffee. Their whole beans are some of the best locally roasted coffee I've had. I'm a big fan of the Brazil roasted beans as these give off a peanut butter flavor. I mix that with some chocolate soy milk and it is like I am drinking a dessert coffee. The mountaineer beans have created a monster in me. Before purchasing them I drank coffee like three days a week. Thanks to them, I am now on ten days straight. If you are in Brooksville and craving some good coffee, give Mountaineer a go. read more
