We've always passed by this restaurant and finally decided to stop in. They weren't busy very busy and the waitress was prompt and friendly. She always made sure our coffee was filled and consistently checked on us. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and fries. It looked amazing! Fries were tasty, crispy and hot. The sandwich was fresh as well but honestly... not a ton of flavor. I had to add some hot sauce to it. I'm also not sure why it's labeled as also serving Mexican in the yelp description. The inly item I saw was huevos rancheros. Lastly, it's labeled here as the Mountain View cafe but on the building it has a large sign that says the Log Cabin... so don't let that confuse you! I really like the interior and the wood like, cozy small town feel! I grew up in a town like Portola and it definitely took me back. I might come back to try another dish as I do like supporting small businesses! read more

First visit to this establishment while camping. The server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant had an old timey feel, which was want we were actually looking for. I ordered the ham, egg and cheese croissant. It was good, but could have used flavor/seasoning. It hit the spot though for a quick bite in the morning. I'd like to try a lunch menu item next time to get a more rounded feel for the restaurant and add another review. read more

Had a delicious lunch at Mountain View Cafe. The pesto chicken sandwich was so good. It has sautéed mushrooms, spinach and red onion on a thinly sliced chicken breast with melted cheese. So, so good. The sandwich was grilled beautifully. Crispy without tearing up the roof of your mouth! I would definitely recommend this to anyone. So much flavor! read more

We used to eat breakfast at the Mountain View Cafe at the old location in downtown Portola and always enjoyed the food and the service. We tried the new location on highway 70. We came in and were completely ignored. We had to ask if we could get a table and were told to sit anywhere. After sitting, we waited for a good ten minutes before the waitress that was at another table chitchatting with other customers who I'm assuming she knew came to bring us menus and then she immediately left without asking us if we would like something to drink. After many more minutes she came back and rushed us through our order so she could go back and chitchat some more. When our food arrived it was under done and greasy. We will not go back to this establishment as we have found another very good restaurant up the street that we have been to several times with great food and service. It's sad that the owners have let it get this bad. read more

I LOVE the chicken marsala & mashed potatoes. I got it once and craved it until I got it again. The guy who runs this place is so sweet and does an amazing job. I want to try more on this menu but it's definitely my go to spot for a yummy home cooking style meal that is made with love & quality ingredients you can taste. Breakfast ... we've been a few times in the last few months. Sides included seem to be getting smaller. Barely 1/4 c of hash browns. Charging $2 extra for the scrambled eggs that are also part of the breakfast meal. Wasn't busy. Had to ask for refill on coffee. For a very small town in the middle of practically nowhere these people work hard to run this restaurant. Even if the service was slow it was because there's one person doing all the tables taking orders. And one person cooking. But that's okay because the food gets turned your table anyway. And this place is not fast-paced living area I hope it never changes. It was very clean and they disinfect the tables as people left. My Belgium waffle as shown in the picture is not really a Belgium waffle but it was okay. The prices are still good for what we got. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I have never received such negative attitude as a customer at any establishment . There were 11 of us senior citizens there for lunch and one of us had a service dog. The young man (waiter?) there refused service to us so when we started to walk out, he told us not to come back! Really?? We are a polite group that have used Yelp to post great service in the past. Unbelievable!! I hope the owner sees this. He lost probably over $200 plus tips with our group. read more

Just stopped by for a quick lunch. The menu had several choices that looked tasty and interesting. I chose the Mountain View Burger. It had a thick Angus patty that was cooked well but still juicy which I loved. A fried egg over medium and fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion. It's tough to find a good burger in a town as small as Portola, but if that's what you're looking for, this is the place to go! I also had a cup of fruit instead of the fries so I didn't completely blow up my diet. The service was great too. All in all, perfect for a quick bite on the run. Currently, for those living or visiting Eastern Plumas, Mountain View Cafe has the best breakfast in the area. Diner favorites as you would come to expect. The location is out of the way at the end of the main drag in Portola, CA. Previously it was a chinese restaurant. My understanding is that it is the same family that run the chinese restaurant. My partner and I went and both had variations on breakfast. I had a scramble, she had an omlette. Despite being diner food, it wasn't heavy and greasy. Which is a big difference compared to many breakfast places. For Plumas County, this cafe and Thunder Cafe in Quincy are top of the list. read more

Found this little gem in a remote mountain location where we attended a wedding. Not many choices, but this was a good one. It's a small family-run breakfast/lunch place. Standard diner fare, with a Mexican twist on some dishes. Food was quite good, with outstanding pancakes, lavish portions, and excellent, friendly service. We went for breakfast on three straight days. After Day 1, the waiter remembered us and our drink choices. Sundays can be busy, and a party of 20 slowed things down considerably.
