I had understood that it was due at least in part to a shallow grade of the outlet pipe...whatever. A couple of years ago, it had gradually become clogged enough that it was draining painfully slowly. I had RotoRooter out to clear it, and when the work was done, it was much better. It drained just fine, like before. Over two or three months this past fall, it gradually slowed down again, and I waited because I remembered how expensive it was the last time. Finally, there was no more waiting. It had become gross, it was so *disgustingly* slow, and I was even wondering whether it would require major work of some kind. I am so happy to have seen the glowing reviews here of Pipe Dreams. I called them & they were able to get me in in two days. Tyler was here for about an hour, and the tools he used were very different from the long, manual snake that RotoRooter had used. It/they were motorized things that had a reach far down the pipes. Tyler explained that he was staying mindful of the neighbors' pipes and not disturbing those. When he was done, he filled the sink with water & then released it. Since we bought this place all those years ago, I had NEVER seen it empty so fast, and I didn't even think it was possible. The water began to spin and make the most beautiful whirlpool and then was gone. The whole time he was here, Tyler could not have been more considerate, clear in his communication, and helpful. He also gave me tips on how to keep the drain clear. I kept meaning to write this review soon after he was here, but it's now been three months - oops! Here is the bright side to the delay: I can report that the sink has been draining wonderfully ever since, and it makes me soooo happy every time I use the sink. Call Pipe Dreams! All the work looked to be of the highest quality. Unfortunately, the boiler had issues and needed to be replaced recently. Vermont Energy was extremely customer oriented and the new system was installed at lightning speed. Four techs showed up and had the new boiler and hot water storage tank installed in one day. Even though the original boiler failed prematurely I am very pleased with the service provided me to make things right. All of the technicians were sharp pencils willing to go the extra mile. For the hookup in the basement, they came to the house and gave me an estimate within a few days of my call, and then did excellent work. The second time, the toilet was still leaking a bit after the initial visit and they were very quick to come back out and address the problem at no additional charge. Overall, the process, while much longer than expected, was fine until the end. I had to continuously ask him to make sure things were getting done and it seemed like unless I asked several times it was overlooked. On top of this the bill at the end was much higher than expected, largely due to the fact that he tried to sneak in a "small tile fee" of $500. I called him on it and he removed it. He stressed that it was an honest mistake, though looking back, it obviously wasn't. I made the mistake of giving him a check before the work was done. Left were several things he said he would do on the last day, clean up and putting the doors back on the hinges. My texts and calls are now being screened and I haven't heard back since he left with the check. I would have highly recommended Oakes prior to the end. Now I'd give a lukewarm recommendation.
