Never Again (long text) The Mountain Valley Lodge has been our "go to" hotel whenever visiting Hailey. We will not return.. The hotel and the room itself were fine. The front desk staff? Entirely different story. We arrived an hour before official check-in time & took a chance to see if we could check-in early. Upon arrival we were met it was apparent we were unwelcomed, no hello and informed that we were there too early and check in wasn't until 3pm. No smile, no hello pretty much get the heck out of here. I thought it was just me until my travel buddy said "did we piss her off or something?" When we checked in after 3pm our room was fine. We did have a laugh that it looked like there had been a shoot out in the room because there were 13 patched up but not painted holes in the room all the same size. No big deal. Our troubles began the next morning at breakfast. The breakfast buffet hours were 5:30am - 10:30am. We arrived at 8am to find out there pretty much was nothing left (See attached pictures) There were no hotel staff to be seen - neither a breakfast area attendant or anyone at the nearby front desk. After waiting 30 minutes with no one in sight a hotel employee (Vivian) appeared at the front desk. During this 30 minute wait several hotel guests came down for breakfast. Upon seeing there was no breakfast they left. "Guess we are going out for breakfast" was a common overheard conversation. When I asked Vivian about the lack of breakfast food she was (take your pick) rude, indifferent, with a just go away attitude - exactly how she had treated us a day earlier when we tried to check in. Her only comment was "it will be ready in 2 minutes". While I was speaking with Vivian another lady approached the desk asking the same question "where is breakfast? We've been waiting over half an hour. Aren't breakfast hours 5:30 to 10:30?" Vivian replied with a big sigh and a "it will be out in 2 minutes" 15 minutes later a staff member did bring out a very small bowl of eggs. A few minutes later a small bowl of potatoes. Fresh fruit was not replenished. Bread was not replenished. An extended family who had been waiting 45 minutes like us finally gave up and left. There clearly wasn't enough eggs or potatoes for their family. Mountain Valley Lodge needs to hire people who both want to and enjoy working with the public. There was no excuse for the lack of food half-way through breakfast hours but especially the rude, impolite and disrespectful attitude by the front desk attendant Vivian.. read more

Stayed here with my sisters for a bit while they came out to watch my show. Very simple hotel but nails all the things you'd want, pool and hot tub were very clean and closed a bit later so that we could make it for a swim, breakfast was pretty good, great selection of food and drinks as well as some snacks for any time of day, the rooms were well maintained and clean as well. No problems I had that weren't resolved instantly. Would come back! read more

I hate to be the first to write this review by starting them off at a mediocre three star rating, yet I'm being quite generous with the third star. True rating would be 2.5 stars. I discovered Mountain Valley Lodge on TripAdvisor and was impressed with the photos and price tag of around $130 a night for a king bedroom near Ketchum. Upon arriving, the exterior of the building looks very nice with a modern lodge appearance. Entering the lobby has a similar feel, though the breakfast area was quite dark and fireplace was not on to help with the mountain vibe. The front desk staff was very friendly and a delight to chat with. Their two dogs were even more adorable. 5 stars for the husband and wife team at the front desk! Everything was looking positive up until this point. Now onto the stay and room... We had overheard that this hotel was recently purchased and was undergoing a remodel. Sadly there was no notice of this on their website, TripAdviser or anywhere else. Now that I look back at the TripAdvisor pictures, it makes sense as to why the photos have the AmericInn by Wyndham signage... That's why our room did not look anything like in the photos! We saw a lot of furniture piled up in the parking lot to be taken away, however, what was in our room was oversized, black and looked downright cheap plus on the verge of gaudy. There was a massive desk, then bed stands that did not allow enough room for the decorative sitting chair jammed in the corner. The microwave was unplugged, yet there were not enough plugs for the desk lamp to keep the microwave on. The plugs that came in the decorative glass bedside lamps didn't work or provide any charge. Instead, we had to unplug the lamps and use the wall plug for our cell phones and a CPAP machine. The shower head appeared to have never have been cleaned with hopefully just hard water buildup and the shower/tub didn't empty if the drain stop was not removed completely. We weren't given a WiFi password so we called downstairs. After receiving the password, which was a T-Mobile account specific to the floor, it would connect for one minute then drop off. This happened on my laptop and cell phone, so I wrote this review via my two bars of cell service. There were a few other bothersome details. There was only one small trash can in the room, so we ended up moving that to the bathroom and it filled up quickly. There was a square tissue box on the desk, yet a place for a tissue box in the bathroom counter that was empty. The coffee maker was on the bathroom counter, yet should have been near the microwave and mini fridge. All of the wardrobes were crooked and angled poorly--which we realized was done by previous guests to use the hidden electrical plugs. While these things seem knit-picky, if this newly purchased hotel with hopes to succeed, there are a few hotel basics of constructive feedback. All this would explain the low price. Cherry on top: It turns out that our room was surprisingly one of the remodeled ones! Travelers: If you're looking for somewhere to spend a night that is basic yet clean, this may be the place for you. read more

We couldn't add a night to our hotel up in Ketchum, so we reserved a night at the Mountain Lodge. We arrived at 2pm, check in is 3:00pm. We asked if we could check in, the room was available, the front desk said there would be a charge of $50.00 to check in early. (1 hour!!,???). There was no welcoming, just a bad start on our trip. We walked around for an hour, and may I add it was cold out. When we came back at 3 pm, there were others in front of us checking in. The room they gave us was on the first floor and faced a wall. I've never ever not been able to check in if the room is available. We travel a lot. I would not recommend this hotel. There are better choices in both Hailey and Ketchum. read more
