Hello. Mountain Spirit Inn Darby Montana is a lovely historic Inn walking distance to downtown Darby Montana. It is a place that offers a home away from home feel. It has been my go to place when coming for all medical services in Hamilton. Many years I have spent here. Even a week at a time in all seasons. No longer spending way to much in Hamilton Montana for a chain hotel that is not as clean as what Mountain Spirit Inn offers at a afforable price. Sadly I see a hateful review a one star from a disgruntled individual who is well known in this small town. Kinda like Yellowstone being filmed in Darby. How cool!! I take what this person says as a grain of salt. Toss it over your shoulder and move on to truthful reviews. I was here this winter when this person stayed here for quite awhile due to lack of affordable housing. The owner gives folks the respect you need for privacy by allowing a do not disturb sign to be hung. So if you dont let housekeeping in to freshen room or replace towels then thats a You problem. It is a very disgruntled person who wrote this review. So without this quaint clean motel I guess this dude would of been?? Gratitude matters not whiney folks that act entitled for their poor choices and lack of manners. Its much better to stay at Mountain Spirit Inn than be on the street homeless in the dead of winter. Never have I seen such a disgusting review full of deceitful statements. If you were so unhappy then why didn't you check out sir?? Never have I had a problem in over 4 years and if I did the owner resolves it to the best of there ability. One of the few places I've stayed that always washes the bedspread, blankets etc after each person's check out. This is a quaint motel that fits budget minded customers with a home away from home stay. I pray the 1 star complainer receives the blessings he needs in his life to be thankful for not being homeless in Darby because the owner offered him a place to stayed at this motel. Folks in Darby know the truth and this poor review filled with hate is sad testimony from an unhappy soul. I will always support this business because the owner helps those that need a safe clean place to stay. If you were so unhappy for so long then you should of left! Yet instead stayed at this motel cause zero place to go. Fact!! I was here and this dude was not happy even if you said hello. So folks dont believe the one star review because this person is wrong and has nothing better to do but complain falsehoods. Live Mountain Spirit Inn cause I get the privacy I need, the safety and most of all its a home away from home, so I dont nick pick over little things in a motel thats not a big name chain and offers affordability. Please support this simple clean place without all the bells and whistles of a greedy chain motel/ hotel that nickel and dime you to up cost. So grateful to be staying again in April 4 days while attending to medical care in Hamilton. I travel 125 miles one way to stay here. Saw that mean review and so I am calling this guy out!!! So God knows how kind folks are in Darby helping those in need of a place when they had nowhere to go in winter. This was our second stay on our way to the Main Salmon River. The owner Adele greeted us and made sure we were set with the motel and area information. Rooms were clean, comfortable beds and the bath towels are thick and absorbent; something you don't expect from small motels. Oh, and there were two towels per bed, more if you needed! Tv, WiFi, and ability to connect your streaming services with Coffee service in our room. We had a kitchenette setup but didn't need. Short walk to town with several historical items from Lewis & Clark, Sacajawea, old west buildings and a beautiful Veterans Memorial across the street. We'll be back next year! read more

My mother and I stayed at the mountain spirit inn for the final weekend of hunting season to opt for a more luxurious hunting "camp." Our room with two beds surpassed expectations! The room was very clean, the water pressure in the shower felt great, and we walked to dinner each night in Darby. Check in was easy breezy. I highly recommend the mountain spirit inn for a lodging crash pad while recreating in the surrounding area. read more

Tried to give this place another chance. Really wanted to spend my money at a local place especially during these times. My wife is chronically ill with Crohn's and other issues. She HAD to have internet access in the room for our stay. I told front desk this when checking in. They assured me that it would work fine in the room given. Previously it did not and owner said it was because of our room location. Get to room and the no password. Get that and no the wifi won't connect. This was only about 10 mins after getting into the room. Front desk says she can't refund or anything have to wait for owner. Said should be there between 5-5:30. Then they said 5:30-6. Finally left just before 6pm and left my phone number for owner. Only to have her call and say she won't refund because my wife used the bathroom. There was NO bathroom in office and they KEPT us there for hours with a medical condition that effects bathroom use. Then she SCREAMED full force in my wife's ear when she took to phone to inform her again of her medical conditions. The office staff and the owners own teenage son told us while we waited that the wifi is "shotty" in the room and to sit outside to use it. Yet she tried to blame it on being in Montana. Liar she is in the middle of town. She knows it doesn't work yet she continues to advertise that it's available in room and tells that to people when they check in then refuses to refund. Dishonesty is a horrible trait and I'm not sure how she sleeps at night after lying everyday. read more

I was going to wait until we got home to write a review, but I woke up this morning realizing I had left a part to my travel espresso machine in the room. I called this morning and the owner answered and had kept it. She was very helpful and is going to send it to our home. This place is an older roadside motel and we were primarily looking for some place safe, which can be difficult in roadside motels where you don't know the area. As soon as I called to book we could tell this would be the perfect place for our one night stay. Charming little room. Yes, it's dated...but in a good way! Darby itself is our favorite little town after driving through the Bitterroot Valley. So if you're looking for a great place to stay on a road trip, I would highly recommend this hotel and this town! read more

This is a great independently owned motel. The owners are super friendly and take great pride in their property. We stayed here with a large group on a dirt bike tour and they were really accommodating. Super clean, well maintained, convenient and not a chain! read more

One of two Darby motels and I think this is the best, located on the south end of town. Rooms are clean and kept well maintained and their prices are reasonable. During hunting season, Logger Days and other local events they are packed, so make your reservations early as it is 20 miles into the nearest town of Hamilton. A decent place to stay and enjoy the Bitterroot Valley. read more

It's fitting to find this cozy motel at the entry of Darby's main strip. It makes a perfect introduction to the quiet, friendly charm one will find there. We stayed a total of 8 nights, and wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely recommend the Mountain Spirit Inn to anyone staying in Darby. read more

If you want your room ransacked by the owner after you explicitly ask them to not enter, go ahead and stay here. Never in my life have I encountered such an inhospitable stay. We arrived to Darby after 10 hours on the road to visit and spend a few days with my dear old friend. This is apparently one of the more decent motels in this town. The first night was fine because our friend checked us in. However, we went to book our second night and made sure to call early to set up arrangements. At 8:45 AM there was no answer so we called back after breakfast. The owner (Jerry) answered and made sure to let us know that they wanted us to come back as soon as possible so they could have their day to themselves. Upon returning promptly to give them cash Jerry said, "We open at 9:30, its rude when people call so early." (Nevermind, the idea that these people are in the hospitality industry.) Unable to find the paperwork to check us in. He was so frustrated that he angrily raised his voice to himself while talking out loud and snapped a pen in front of us. We continued to wait patiently for him to find whatever he needed to check us in. He mentioned multiple times that people have stolen from them and he had to be sure to check us in properly in case anything should go missing during our stay. Due to disorganized office paperwork Jerry was unable to check us in. Finally, his wife arrived after we had waited for over 15 minutes. She checked us in and also made sure to mention that people steal from them, making us feel unwelcome and suspect. (Why anyone would ever steal from this place is beyond me. The outside is pleasant but the inside is quite dated.) Since this was the first stop on our travels to Utah, Nevada, Arizona and Oregon our Volvo was packed full of blankets and camping gear which we unloaded into our room to make space for passengers. At some point in the evening after declining room service, Jerry entered our room and took the hotel bedding out. The comforter and pillows were removed. We were flabbergasted, but tired after a full day of visiting with our friends so we used our own bedding instead. Upon checkout, Jerry asked how our stay was. I told him how discouraged we were that he had entered our room without permission and then removed the bedding. He said, "well, you brought your own bedding." What he didn't seem to understand is that he didn't have permission to enter our room and that the bedding we brought was for our camping trip ahead. Jerry yelled at me and said "Maam, who leaves a gallon of water on the bed?" (We carried water with us because we were going to be camping after leaving Darby.) He became more and more irate as I insisted that regardless of what was on the bed, he had no right to enter our room without permission, especially after we insisted that we didn't want room services from them. Eventually, I asked him to call the town Marshall so that the issue would be handled by someone calm and collected. We felt incredibly violated at "Mountain Spirit Inn". With Jerry yelling at me in the office and presenting as someone mentally unstable, I feared for my life. There was never an apology or refund provided. They are simply lucky that we didn't press charges. read more

Adele runs a great and very comfortable Inn. The towels and sheets are lush, the rooms are large, mine had a kitchen and two bedrooms. Very comfortable stay and very easy booking and checking in. We came on motorcycles and she is hip to the cause. read more

What a nice cozy motel. I've been here for a week on business and I have really enjoyed it. Very clean, quiet. The owners live here on property and they could not have been any nicer. The beds are comfortable and great water pressure in the shower. They have dish network for tv. They have wifi but to get a decent signal I would recommend rooms 1-7. read more

We made a last minute reservation here because of bad weather. We were warmly welcomed and given a nice clean room for our short stay. The room had plenty of tv channels and good wi fi. We would definitely stay here again. read more

This is not a luxury motel, but the cabin was clean and cute! We had a nice kitchen, so we could fix some of our meals. The owner was very nice and helpful. I especially enjoyed the chickens (no roosters) outside our kitchen window! read more

My little home wouldn't accommodate my Dad when he came to town, so I put him up there. He raved about the friendly owners, the clean room and the personal attention. Fantastic place to stay and for the price point cant beat it! Drove 6 1/2 hours to head to the hot springs. Arrived to our 2 bedroom room with 3 beds, stove microwave fridge flat screen, even a table with fold out leafs that we used later that night. We were also offered an extension on the time frame we were to leave, which was very helpful because we had alot to do. Free Wi-fi in the lobby if you need it, but there is also 4g in the town. The whole family felt very comfortable with the stay and the hospitality was fantastic! 11 / 10 would recommend to anyone who was heading through Darby or visiting. read more

Jerry and Adele are good hosts and owners. An older motel but very clean and kept with loving care. They are slowly remodeling but keeping the old quaintness of the motel. Good value for the price and easy walk to town. Nice outdoor area to visit. Jerry will build a camp fire for groups to visit - and fun that they will also come out to visit and share stories. read more
