I would be exhausted in the morning and feel somewhat moody due to my lack of sleep. I tried changing my pre sleep habits and honeopathic methods on my own but never really got relief. I came here without insurance coverage for a sleep study to see Dr. Scrima. Sonia, the office manager gave me a huge discount since my sleep study and visits would be out if pocket... I have never had that offered to me at any other Doctors office! The office is very cosy, so when you are there for your study you feel totally at home ( unlike the very hospital like rooms i have seen before). They have a shower and kitchen area with breakfast and snacks available for you too. The sleep tech who helped to fit me with all the devises and electrodes was very funny and personable. Everything was fully explained to me and I never felt silly asking questions, Dr. Scrima and his staff really seemed to enjoy their jobs and i genuinely felt they cared for me and my concerns. I fell asleep quicker than i usually do, but i am pretty sure its because the room was nice and dark and the office was very quiet and homey. In the morning I was able to shower and get ready there before heading into work. Dr. Scrima had the results of my sleep study very quickly and diagnosed me with several sleep disorders including restless legs, insomnia, and apnea. He recommended i be prescribed a sleeping pill which in non habit forming, allows REM sleep, and leaves you feeling rested in the am...i had taken other sleeping aids in the past but always felt groggy in the am. He explained it is due to them not producing REM sleep. He also discussed the other diagnoses and recommendations treat them. I only take the sleeping pill as needed and in following his other instructions i have found i am getting far longer hours of quality sleep. It has elevated my mood, my memory, and my performance at work and in school. I am very grateful for the knowledgable and caring staff and for Dr . Scrima's expert diagnoses, treatment, and advice. I will note upfront that I did not sufer from the extreme pain/headaches that some have. I tend to grind my teeth (bruxism) and it was geting progressively worse. I was fearful of havin to have surgery and have my jaw wired shut, etc. Needless to say Dr. Wilk set me at ease. After doing a thorough review of documented bruxism history and reviewing my range of motion, Dr. Wilk and his staff provided a high level of understanding for my fear and gave me detailed steps on the course of action to treat my situtation. I was pleased to learn that a guard could be devised for use at night-time only. Within a few weeks, I received my "appliance" and had several follow-up check ups to make sure that the appliance fits well and measure my progress. After 6 months of care, it was determined that I'd made significant progress and now follow-up with Doctor every six months. I no longer suffer from the occasional jaw pain and jaw popping out of socket or wake up with a sore jaw from grinding the night before. When my baby hit the 4-month regression, everything I had been doing stopped working. I couldn't…read morenurse or rock my baby to sleep anymore. Instead, I was taking 20 minutes to try to get him to stop crying and transfer him without waking him up (often having to restart the whole process). He was still waking every 4 hours most nights even though I knew he could do more. Kris was so helpful in giving me the guidance and confidence I needed to put a plan in place and stick to it! There are so many voices online, but it was really important to have one experienced and trusted voice in my ear so I wasn't going back and forth between different strategies (sabotaging all of them). I was introduced to Kris while living in Colorado, but had moved to Michigan by the time I needed help with my LO. Even from that distance I felt very supported. My baby immediately started sleeping 10 hours and only taking 2 minutes to soothe himself and get to sleep (most of the time).
