Such a bummer. On my initial stop into Mountain Paws we had a great experience but I now think that was simply because we were spending money in his store. Exactly 20 hrs later the next day I brought back one of the three items we bought as upon opening the bag it had a weird smell and the treats were dried out (they were stuffed morsels yet dried out inside like paste) and my dog the treat queen loves any treats but she wouldn't go near these. I took them back to the store and asked for an exchange and was told 1) it's opened, yeah how would she and I notice the issue if not and 2) it's not our issue if your dog doesn't like it. And yes granted if just picky I could see although after 4 decades of buying dog treats and food, everywhere else had exchange, refund or replacement with no issues. Instead he was short, rude and condescending. So here we are, writing so others know, do not buy anything new there as if there is an issue with it, nothing will be done other then a ridiculing like your a child. read more

I love shopping locally! I have been here two times and both times I was treated awesome they have no problem going over and explaining things about their products with me, I purchased a brush, antiseptic spray, new leash, new collar, a silicone brush that you apply dog shampoo too. I called them on a Sunday and to my surprise they called me right back and they were open until five, which is fabulous for a mountain town on Sunday owners are wonderful! They have such a large and unique selection of toys, blankets all of my needs were met here. I will definitely be coming back. This is a shop that I enjoy visiting and my dog is enjoying his products. read more

Hidden oasis for dogs and Idlewild! I love it because it's right next to a couple of shops so you can check out some clothing get some really great priced incense and cones. Then grab up some dog treats and there are even some local dog shoes that you can have made. Ask the cashier for the contact information. Gretchen is incredible I love coming up here to say hi to her and she always remembers us! Our favorite is the duck treats but they have some fantastic ones as well. It's about 12 bucks for a bag. Highly worth it especially because of how well made they are. read more

Such a beautiful store with a helpful and kind owner. We were able to try on dog booties (for the hot asphalt) on our lab before purchasing them. (He thinks his new shoes are pretty cool.) Also received a recommendation on a dog walker/sitter while in town when we have an event to attend and picked up a small bag of dog food when we ran out. Great pet shop that has everything you need for your fur babies. Was on a small trip and decided to stop in and pick up some treats for my baby waiting for me back home. What I love about this place was the exceptional customer service I received during my shopping experience. The lady working the store was very helpful and made sure that I was satisfied with my purchases & if there was any issues just come back and see her (came for treats and left with toys and a sweater for my baby). She moved across the street and we almost missed this place on our last visit! When we camp in Idyllwild, we stop in to visit this store with the pets. They get some attention and a treat, and we stock up on bully sticks for later. The price for bully sticks is pretty reasonable here. Really, this tiny establishment is about as Good As It Gets for the Pet Boutique shopper! We went to Idyllwild for Mothers Day and drove right to the front door of Mountain Paws. ITS COLD UP THERE and so we bought the little doggie Paquale, whom we had with us, a fancy sweater at a great little price! This is the cutest little pet gift store. The owner has merchandised the store so beautifully. Everything is gorgeous, from the twinkly lights she has strung around the ceiling to the adorable dog bowls and accessories she has available for purchase. This store would be right at home in Fashion Island, South Coast Plaza or Bev Hills. The store gorgeous, the merchandise they sell is so cute and adorable and the owner is a total sweetheart. We walked in right at closing time and she talked to us for at least a half hour after closing time, told us all about the doggies who are the "Honorary Mayors of Idyllwild" and gave our doggie a free bag of treats! First thing you'll notice is the way way way pushy sales associate. We told her twice we were just browsing, but she kept kinda following us and showing us different toys. We had to tell her a few times that we only have cats but were just browsing the dog toy section in case we saw any small toys that our cat would like. We actually had to browse the dog section because although this place was advertised as "having accessories for canines, felines & humines", it really is just a dog shop. Cat section (or "kitty corner" as they called it) was litterally just a tiny corner of the store. I'd say less than 1% of the area and/or items are for cats. Its perfectly fine to have a dog boutique, but it should have been advertised that way. I still ended up purchasing a couple toys for the cats as I wanted them to smell something from up there & I was unsure where else on the hill I could get cat toys. I'm pretty sure I will not be back here when I'm up the hill again. Next time, I'm just gonna have to bring the kitties a scarf or a balled up pair of socks from the clothing stores to toss around. read more

I LOVE this store. It is one of my favorite things to see when I visit Idyllwild. I always end up buying something, and wanting to buy more. They have a really nice selection of gifts, clothing and treats for the pet and pet lover. The last time I was visiting, as I was walking out of the store with my purchases, I got to meet the Mayor.
