Fairlane Fire Prevention

Fairlane Fire Prevention

Have been using Fairlane exclusively for 30 plus years on Vancouver buildings. always on time,…read morethorough complete inspection and no issues. Second generation company so they are around for a long time. Gord Gooch Vancouver

We worked with Fairlane at our building for 20 years. When I took over being the strata manager, I…read morestarted digging a little deeper into their inspections. They seemed okay but we noticed, for one, that fire extinguishers were deemed 'expired' and in need of replacement, when upon closer inspection, we could see that they weren't. Could be a mistake? Another time they reported some ball bearing in need of replacement in the mechanical room. I literally overheard the two guys arguing about who's fault it was and how to handle it and I walked in on them. They said they had been talking about another job but whether it was our building or another building, it seemed odd. We got that fixed but it took months. So eventually, after several other small incidents mounted, nothing major, I switched companies to a smaller company who came in and walked me through the inspection in a very transparent and educational way. I immediately could see the difference and the report was thorough and easy to follow. We recently had an urgent issue come up with one of our air compressed lines and despite best intentions, our new smaller Fire Safety Company didn't have a tech available to help asap. So I called Fairlane back. They at least knew the building and I needed their help. After some back and forth, they finally came back to me and said they could not help since we had terminated their service. Since they had not done the last inspection, whether the issue had to do with anything that was inspected or not, they would not come out for this issue. They said it's an industry-wide protocol not to help with urgent issues like this, if the building was inspected by another company. I called my smaller company who couldn't believe it. Apparently it's standard for other companies to jump in when another company can't make it. I called another company, BarTec, and they said they had never heard of such a policy and would be happy to help right away. Even though this could have been an opportunity for Fairlane to win our business back, it instead just confirmed we had made the right decision to leave.

I had received a quote of $95 plus taxes, after I requested a total of all the charges, including…read moreany hidden fees. After the extinguishers were inspected, I offered to pay then and there, but was told I would be sent an invoice. After 3 months, I received a bill via email for $184.80 total, and no itemized services. I sent an email for an explanation, and all I got back was an email from a second person in Alberta, threatening "collection" actions. A few days later, I received an explanation from a THIRD person. I have operated a business for over 30 years, and when I give a quote, the final bill is within 5% of it. This company is like a circus with too many clowns, and no management skills. PS, I am still waiting for a receipt 6 months later.

Terrible, total scammers!! It's a bait and switch for sure. Told me it would be 50$ to get a new battery which he had in his car of course. I looked up the price of the battery and it is only 30$ at Canadian Tire. He told me if he didn't change it right at this visit, he would have to charge another $110 to come again for the light inspection. So of course, I had no choice but to pay the $50. Now, I got the bill and they charged me ANOTHER $127 service fee for him fixing the battery. The whole inspection was less than 30minutes INCLUDING the time he spent "changing" the battery.
