Office experience has been poor, rated one star. My dentist was unable to complete a dental procedure. He instructed the front office to issue me a $1,400 refund, as I had prepaid as required. He also instructed them to refund my insurance. This was back in February. To this day, I have not been issued a refund, nor has my insurance been credited. I have made multiple requests for the refunds to be issued, and each time, I am assured that the refund check has been approved, cut, and is going into the mail. I have asked to speak to the lead practice owner, and they said that it is not possible and that they can handle the matter internally, in the office. This is the same office staff that told me that the check has been in the mail since February. However, this has not stopped them from calling me and texting me to come in for my next check-up. A dentist at this practice destroyed a tooth during prep for a crown requiring it to be extracted at an outside oral surgeon office. I was billed for the please of that visit which I had the office manager take off. Then my wonderful Hygienist left the practice leaving me no reason to stay. We have been coming to mountain crest dental for about 2 years now. They seem to always be training new office staff. The hygienists I have come in contact with are very unprofessional. Every time we have an appointment, we have a more due than expected. Now I have been calling for over a week in regard to an email about my account. I have left multiple messages trying to get a hold of someone. Of course, the scheduling line answered my call. When they transferred me to billing, I was on hold for 10 minutes and sent to vm. We have cancelled all appointments and will not be returning. Nor would we recommend this office to any one else. read more

This was my first visit to Mountain Crest Dental. the appointment was actually terrific! the procedure was very comfortable and the communication was great! Every staff member I encountered was patient and kind. However, it came to the bill.Its presented to you before any service is done. the lady at the front office brought mine back to me. First she said you have great insurance, ( this made me think my insurance covered everything) so do you want to hear a break down or a summary of i? I said summary. she it will be $374 for today. This is for a deep cleaning. Nervous and ignorant I said o ( my fault for not asking about the high cost). The hygienist went on to explain everything that would be done. At no point did anyone say your insurance doesn't cover most of this. Again, my ignorance I guess my bill would've been just over $100 if I had said I didn't want some of the extra stuff. For me, the hygienist made it sound like it was all included and never mentioned anything was beyond insurance. I won't be going back just because of their shady business practice because clearly they're out to just get the cash and not really have the patient interest in mind. personally, that's just dirty business.! and sad, I was reallly happy with the procedure. They were late for our appointment by 30 minutes! A phone call to let us know, in advance, that they were short staffed would have been appreciated. The dentist doing the exam took a super quick peek said the X-rays are showing no decay or issues. He prescribed fluoride toothpaste and walked out. No cancer screening or exam of tongue, inside of my mouth, neck, glands nothing! I was very disappointed! read more

Well, I now see why this business has been awarded 3.1 stars. That is generous. I changed dentists because this office was much closer to home and they did take my dental plan. So far so good. My first visit revealed a need for two fillings. I was quoted a specific mount and agreed to pay that mount, which I did. Then, Mountain Crest sent me a bill for almost double what I already paid. When I called to question this, I was told that they had only given me an estimate and that I had signed it. True enough, but the additional charge was again almost double what I had agreed to pay and did pay. They then blamed my insurance company. But the real blame rests with Mountain Crest. They employ people to do the checking/validation with insurance companies about services before the event. Why was I not told the correct number up front? Lax office management and follow through? How are patients on a fixed income supposed to deal with this sort of incompetence? This is a shoddy business practice and a definite bait and switch. So, a deal too good to be true proved to be a load of baloney. I loved my previous dentist but changed due to distance and they did not take my dental plan. But, they never once treated me like this. My solution? I'm immediately going back to the dentist I should have never left. Voting with my feet. read more

I went in for a deep clean under Physicians mutual Medicare insurance that I was told would pay half and now I get a bill for over $300 more and then I never got a preapproval for my procedures. I'm not going back to them. read more

The most inept billing of any medical/dental provider I've ever experienced. Was informed after several visits that MCD was out of network for my insurance (Delta Dental of California provided by Intel Corp. and the largest dental insurer in the USA.) When informed of this, I was told that Mountain Crest would cover the out of network difference as to retain my family as patients, which I thought was awesome. Was later told that Delta would not pay claims directly but would send me a check for claims and I would then pay the office. A pain but still no big deal. Later found that Mountain Crest was not consistently filing claims to Delta of California, but rather Delta of AZ or something along those lines. One would think that this would be an easy problem to resolve... wrong! If I asked 5 different staff members at Mountain Crest I received 5 different answers. Delta Dental representative on several occasions asked to have Mountain Crest call to resolve the discrepancy but I was then given multiple excuses by Mountain Crest why this was not possible. Trough all this I simply wanted to pay our bill, but absolutely do not want to pay for services that should be covered by my insurance simply cause Mountain Crest is unable to correctly file a claim. Eventually, I had to pay out of pocket as Mountain Crest decided to send, not me, but my 20 year old student daughter to collections. I have never posted a negative review of any business before but this experience was a 6 month long unnecessary nightmare. Through it all Mountain Crest continues to blame Delta Dental who made every effort to resolve the problem. If Mountain Crest Dental tells you that they are out of network to your insurance I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

Well, cannot say enough about what a lousy practice this is. My husband had a scheduled appointment for this morning but when he got there he was told he has been banned from getting service there. No explanation, no reason just his file says he's been banned. They CLAIM they sent a letter telling him he's not allowed back BUT they did NOT. They claimed at that point it was because of all the trouble he caused the last time he was there? He has NOT caused trouble but I sure did. They screwed up my billing so bad I surely went into a mad rage. The office manager wouldn't speak with me. She made some poor little girl tell me some bs about why they just HAD to add an extra $866 onto my bill. Again, no valid reason just... it had to be done. I paid my share and refused any additional billing. At that point I told them I'd never be back. But my husband still went, twice more. Now they say he's a problem. I sure wish the dentists would be aware of what's happening in their front office. if I could give a negative score, I'd do that in an instant! read more

After many years of mediocre dentistry I finally found the Bentley of dentistry. I had to have what I called major dental work done. A couple teeth pulled, filling and a deep cleaning. They did everything they could to work around my schedule and I was able to get everything done in one sitting (4.5 hours) only one week after my initial visit. With everything done I expected pain during the healing process. Happily I had little to no pain. Now that the healing process has started I can honestly say this is the first time in more than 20 years that I have been painless. Don't bother. I used to love Mountaincrest it was close to my home and care was great. However my dentist left at the end of last year. I was assigned to another dentist who then left a month after that. Now they are referring me to another dentist. They have had me come in to redo work because the new dentist did not know what was going on. I was referred out and they did not send my charts or insurance information. The other practice tried to get ahold of them and couldn't. I had to reschedule my appointment several times and pay a missed appointment fee because of their lack of oversight. Following my root canal I was referred back to mountaincrest for the crown. I called them pot appointment to set up getting a crown. They scheduled my appointment for that week and then called me later in the week to reschedule. I was out of the country so had to wait 3 weeks. My appointment was to be this Wednesday and they just called to say they could not do it. They were going to refer me to their sister operation but cannot do it in the time I need. I am worried my tooth will break in the interim as it has no cap/cover and the temp filling is coming out. Unreliable, terrible customer service and Dr Smith is super unhelpful. read more

I have been to at least three dental offices here in the east valley and each apparently thought I was in their offices to be a major contributor to their retirement fund. One, who was written up as one of the 10 top dentists in Mesa flat out fabricated work to be done. This was confirmed to be not factual by other offices.... Most came up with extensive 'treatment plans' encompassing many visits and loads of payments. So after too long I made an appointment with Mountain Crest Dental located over in the Frys plaza. Jason Thibodeaux, DMD and his staff took care of two small issues after xray's, cleaning, cancer exam and fluoride. The office did not try and sell me a summer treatment plan to replace old fillings, braces, whitening or face lift. He told me my dental health was fine. Today I had an initial visit to Mountain Crest Dental, located next to Fry's on Signal Butte in Mesa. I was so impressed with the reception ladies, Alexia and Brittany. They were very friendly, personable, and helpful. I was then turned over to Amber Mendoza who performed the X-rays as well as all of the evaluation. She could not have been more helpful and professional. They prepared a dental course of action along with all of the associated costs going forward. Well.... I should have changed over to a different Invisalign provider when I had to go back in for another scan because they first set of trays wasn't fitting correctly. However I had the auto payments set up to pay the balance owed. Unfortunately at the end of last year beginning of this year I had surgery, the card for auto payment stolen and Covid all within a month or two. So by March I am finally starting to get caught up on things and am told that my balance is in collections. They tell me they will schedule me once I pay it. Shoot! I immediately call the collection company and they cannot find my account. A few months later collections can find the account after quite a bit more time spent between Mountain Crest Dental and the collections company. Finally! I pay it and then am told they will no longer see me or give me the remainder of the treatment I need. What?!?! They had previously told me pay it and we will schedule you. Now I have Invisalign trays at their facility and buttons on my teeth that they won't remove. I'm so disappointed. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. read more

We had a very positive first experience at this dentist. We made appointments for a second cleaning through their Vantage program, it should have been $50. NO ONE told us that another $30 would be charged for seeing the dentist. We were told on the phone that was their policy, but they'd check and call us back. That was 4 days ago; no one has returned the call. We will be seeking a new dentist. Too bad they lost two customers over $30. I had to be sent for crowns then back to Mountain Crest Dental to have teeth cleaned and set caps for crowns. Front office was great. Dr. Smith was highly rude after x-rays I asked him 3 times if I needed other dental work. His comment was we will see in your next visit. The hygienist cleaned my teeth and in the process chipped all my teeth and made large gaps on the lines between my teeth. I mentioned to Dr. Smith And he claimed he did not see any chipped and walked away. I have front veneers and this gal chipped them bad with a dental drill tool. The manager was very rude. In spit of me telling the doctor what took place they deliberately refused to order the caps I had ordered and paid for. After 3 weeks I was told they never ordered them. Yet I was told it would take about 2week or sooner. Horrible place Dr. Smith is a real creep and back office. Horrible experience don't go there find a professional place. Dr. Smith should be ashamed of himself he knows how bad his hygienist chipped my veneers. He refused to even talk to me and just walked away while I was talking. Everyone at this office was really friendly and made me feel welcomed. I hadn't been to the dentist in awhile and they didn't make me feel bad. They explained everything that I needed and were able to start on some work that day which I was very grateful for as I already had the day off work and didn't need to come back for another visit. What a complicated and convoluted process just to get an appointment to have a tooth looked at. One person from the office called to set up the emergency appointment with full x-rays. A hour later another person called and said I should do a full exam, cleaning, assessment v. go the emergency route. I told the second person what the first one told me and she commented the first one didn't know what she was talking about. Doesn't she work there? Then they tell me the costs will be much higher because they have to charge different rates v. the insurance discount rate. BUT, they could not tell me how much the initial visit will be. I decided to cancel since I could not get a fee quote and the 2nd person became rude and hung up immediately. I'm of the impression that customer service isn't their first goal...getting $$$'s in the door is. read more
