We booked a date ahead of time that turned out to be right after the late January ice storm. The inn called to confirm our visit or to offer a refund with no penalty. "We are comIng" and so they were ready. We were the only guest, however, which was great, because we had the run of the place, but odd because from 9PM until 5;00 AM or thereabouts we were the only people in the inn. But happy hour went on nevertheless, beforehand, and dinner was cathead biscuits, local pecan encrusted pan seared trout, and other local delicacies. We felt so special! Our room was very nice, however, if you happen to be here during or after an ice storm, don't get a room adjacent to the main road. The power company did a great job clearing roads and restoring lines and such, but they get an early start and are big and loud rolling down the main cross street at very early AM times, and we are early risers. Just saying, a very, very lovely stay, but get a back room if an ice storm has just rolled through. Definitely will return!

We checked out early because mattress was so uncomfortable in "Holly". When this was brought up to management the general manager Jenna said "I have slept in that bed before and it was fine" - not the most professional response. Sorry won't return and I cannot recommend.

Continental breakfast is pretty limited, and their coffee is bad. The light switch for the bathroom is outside the bathroom so when you're done with the bathroom you have to reach for the light switch on the outside wall and the light coming out from the bathroom would disturb the person sleeping and that's bad design. The light switch should be inside the bathroom. I would not want to stay in a hotel with that design (unless I'm single). When we arrived on our first day of our visit the mini refrigerator had water on the bottom inside and it didn't seem to be cold enough so we had to report it to the front office and they came the next day to fix it. I expect everything to be working okay during our first day of stay. The maid service was okay. There was confusion one time, they took our used towels and didn't leave cleaned one and they didn't do any maid work on that day and we had to report it. The bathroom was small, reminds me of the small bathrooms in Japan. The room size was okay but there were not enough chairs (for married couple). The pricing for the room stay is reasonable. The reason we stayed in Clayton was to do whitewater rafting very close by.

I enjoyed watching relatives playing golf and just staring out the window. We had lunch and dinner in the restaurant. The building is near the golf store and the check in desk. If you are looking for the pool, it is just past the restaurant. The bar area is small enough to be intimate and large enough to accommodate a group of 40 without feeling crowded. The bathrooms are downstairs. Each condo has complete kitchen so you don't really need a restaurant. It was a nice addition. It also meant we didn't have to leave the grounds to grab a bite. The dining area can be divided into sections to have more than one private party. We enjoyed a casual lunch with just our group. The menu isn't that varied but we had sandwiches, salads and hummus. The salads were a bit earthy at lunch and dinner. The lunch prices were reasonable. My lunch was under $9.00. The view is relaxing and beautiful. The venue is perfect for a party or celebration. It isn't DC's Willard Hotel but it is a great mountain get a way. We had a birthday party with approximate 40 guests. The food was set up buffet style. The food was wonderful. The staff was able to accommodate vegans and vegetarians. The pasta was delicious. We had tomato and alfredo sauces. The mixed vegetables were tasty. The salmon was quality and nicely cooked. The salad was colorful and had edible flowers in it. The dressings were delicious (and helped over up the gritty tasting lettuce). There was a variety of pies for dessert. We were allowed to bring our own birthday cake. There was a cash bar, water and tea. The staff did a great job at restocking, refilling and making sure we had what we needed (without hovering). This looks like the perfect wedding venue. We had a great party and it was convenient staying on the property.

The beds were very comfortable, the room was very clean and welcoming. We walked into the restaurant and bar when we arrived and it's a beautiful facility but we never got to eat or drink anything there during our stay due to it being closed for a private event on the day we would have been able to do so. The location is perfect, tucked away and peaceful but only 6 minutes to downtown Clayton. We enjoyed the spa, it's very nice and relaxing. We spent time in the indoor pool and hot tub prior to our massage appointments. The indoor pool could probably use some updating/maintenance but we still enjoyed our time. The massage therapists were amazing and very knowledgeable.

Our two queen bedroom had a mini fridge but no microwave. Phone didn't work. Direct TV worked ok but it's not a big screen. Shower is in a somewhat narrow bath with modest pressure but it works and it gets warm. Beds are comfortable enough and the room in general, which could use a face lift, works just fine. Our room at least wasn't all that spacious but deck out back with view is a nice feature. Allowing dogs is also a rare feature which we appreciated (relatively low charge of $25 total). The spa is fine but it's unfortunate that they don't have a hot tub at the pool. The pool doesn't get deeper than 4.5 feet but it's big enough to do laps if it's not crowded. They have small jacuzzi tubs in the single sex locker rooms and steam and sauna rooms. They offer massage and facials at the spa too. Prices looked pretty standard for these services. Restaurant on site was ok but not our favorite (see my Kingwood restaurant review). We actually like the continental breakfast well enough with the not-synthetically seeming normal hotel eggs and the Belgian waffles. I played 15 holes on the golf course and found it to be a pretty decent and interesting enough course at an affordable price. If golf isn't your think they have some on-sight hiking trails that are pretty scenic. The outdoor pool looks like it would be nice too in the summer. Very little at this resort will probably "wow" you but it's a decent value proposition. Mostly you come to Kingwood for the views and the beautiful mountain town. While it didn't bother my wife much, this resort will never get above four stars for me while constantly hearing the traffic on the road just below.

We loved the change in scenery going from flat land, to rolling hills, mountains and beautiful trees. It was very easy to find the location and that's saying a lot as I'm TERRIBLE with directions! Upon exiting your car, you instantly feel peace as you hear the waterfalls cascading down rocks and breathe in fresh air. The parking is right next to the cabins which are easily accessible. Our family stayed Sunday - Saturday and we had plenty to do and still missed out on seeing some attractions. We have a large family of 7 and were easily entertained. Some days were spent at the Inn relaxing, floating in the creek with inner tubes, sunbathing on the rocks, or just sitting by the water sharing fun family stories. Many evenings were spent outside grilling, playing cards and outdoor games like corn hole and Jenga. It is relaxing not being in a very touristy area. There are a lot of fun outdoor activities (white water rafting, hiking, camping, lakes, mountain view's) in the immediate area and a short drive to more popular locations like Helen or the Smokies. The housing was perfect, beds were comfortable, the shower water pressure was AMAZING, and rooms were very cool despite coming in the heat of summer. Most our time was spent outdoors enjoying the beauty of the property. At night, everything is lit up with ambient lighting, even the waterfalls! No mosquitos were to be found which was a pleasant surprise. All in all this is a MUST see if you are looking for a great place to stay that's peaceful, beautiful, close to town yet still in the hills. We can't wait to go back!
