Recommend changing the name to Caroliar Motel. All rooms are equipped with intermittent electricity, and internet. Refrigerators and microwaves have been removed. All water faucets are reversed. This is not a Hilton Garden Inn or a Marriott. But here's what it is: A very clean, well-kept blast from the past. The sort of place where I stayed with my parents in the 1960s. The gentleman who checked me in (I assumed to be the owner or GM) told me that it was built in 1952. It's very retro, which is what makes it so cool. I only stayed one night. I didn't want to pay $220 to stay in Hiawassee, GA. The room was neat as a pin and I slept like a baby even with busy US441/23 close by. And the morning coffee in the lobby was very good, too. Kitschy comfy local friendly clean. "Nick at Night" builds nightly bonfires in the fire pit out front where residents can gather around, bring a beverage, and chat. The bed was so comfy and the linens sparkled! I specifically selected Carolina Motel because I wanted something other than the typical corporate experience, but a B&B was a little too "close for comfort." This was the PERFECT middle ground and I'd stay there again any time! Plus, it's just off the highway and only about 1/4mi away from all of the restaurants, etc., and just a few minutes from old Franklin. Perfectly located! read more

Found this little Motel because of its high rating.It is a modern roadside motel. Great pool. Water is cold. Good playground for little kids. There is a fire pit. Close to Franklin. There is plenty of fast food and a good many locally owned restaurants in the area. Grounds are very well kept up. Staff is very nice. read more

I am in love with this motel and cannot wait to stay here again. It was so clean (I looked). We only stayed one night because we went onto Nashville. Just wanted to post a warning for larger families. I misunderstood their occupant policy, and when asked how many would be staying I said 4. Me my spouse and our 6 & 4 year old. I failed to mention our baby as she does not require a bed. On check in day I was informed that I would have to pay for a second room entirely, I said that we could not afford that and that we would have to cancel our reservation. To which they said that would be impossible I would have to pay for one night of room and board, which we also could not afford. In the end I was forced to leave my husband and 3 small children at the hotel and go sleep on a relatives couch. After all of this we were informed that the pool and playground, (which were the reason we booked this hotel) did not open until 10. Since we intended to be out doing vacation stuff during these hours, it made them completely inaccessible to us. What I am trying to say is if you have an early rising larger family this is not the hotel for you. However the people drinking around the fire pit as I left at 10 every night looked like they were having a blast. And it was very clean. read more

This family owned motel has a fantastic staff and you will feel welcomed from the time you arrive till the time you depart. Disclaimer: my grandparents have stayed at this motel for decades during bike week. That being said, there's a reason they were repeat costumers. The people that run the motel are amazing. They keep this place up. Mind you, the place is old, cinder block walls and such, so the showers are small. That would be the only down side though. RUDE RUDE RUDE Debbie is the manager an old woman with long blonde hair. She was extremely unprofessional and was not willing to accommodate me and my family at all. My husband booked the room and asked me to come meet him however, when I got there I was told I couldn't stay because it was my husbands room!!! He booked a room with two double beds but they refused to allow me to stay the night and was told I would have to book another room to stay?? CRAZIEST thing I've ever heard of... They have a pool and park/play area for kids however don't be fooled this is not a kid friendly motel! My kids were refused accesss to both! The price they advertise on the sign is misleading since they added $30.00 to it, when we asked about the advertised prices we were told they were Winter prices Not what the sign says! The place is very old and musky smelling. The television was near the ceiling series neck cramp after looking up that high! The air conditioning was lousy didn't cool. Holes in sheets and towels. On their website they brag about the friendly staff HA! Debbie was the most rude person I've ever had to deal with checking into a motel. Because of the refusal to let me stay in my husbands room he checked out after two hours of trying to reason with the staff to no avail! They refused to issue a refund even though we didn't stay! I came to Franklin with my mom to mine gems because I'm a geology major at Georgia State University. Our stay at the Carolina Motel couldn't have been better, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The drive from the Motel to the mines on Cowee Mountain is beautiful and not far. The Motel has a pool, children's play area, and a fire pit! The rooms are very clean and the housekeeping staff are very quick. I was so pleasantly surprised by this motel! I didn't know what to expect. I was a little nervous, honestly! But the reviews were so good, I decided to give it a shot. Everything was wonderful! The motel is so cute (adorable 50s kitschy). Everything was clean, and the facility looked recently renovated. The staff was kind and friendly, the rooms were quiet, breakfast was nice, and the fire pit was a fun bonus! We came to Franklin for a concert at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, and this was the perfect place to stay! read more

We checked-in late and scurried out early the next morning, but we enjoyed our brief stay very much. It's a nice, "cute" and CLEAN roadside. Not too many like this one anymore. BED BUGS! During our stay, at the hotel we started to feel biting, in the living area, partially, the living room floor, and couch. My first the thought was No-See-Ums, or sand fleas. Over the next couple days we began to itch and be bitten. By Sunday night we know something was not right, my wife Anna began to break out in a red rash type welts on her neck, arms and hands. After searching on google we knew it was bed-bugs. We packed up Monday 5 am and drove 15 hours home, knowing we couldn't stop and stay anywhere, in fear of spreading Bed Bugs. We had to strip down before entering our home, shower with anti-bacteria soap. We spend the next two days decontaminating our luggage, clothing, shoes, coolers and anything that was in the hotel. I even had to bomb the inside of my truck. Myself, I have small bites and continue to itch. My wife was not as luck as I. She had to go to the hospital. The Dr. stated it was the worst case of bed bugs she had ever seen. DR's recommendation was to burn the mattress. My wife is on 3 different types of medication. Cannot go in the sun, and is wearing long sleeve shirts in 90 degree heat. She continues to suffer from the bite as they continue to merge. The DR. stated that this can go on for 6 or more weeks and cause permanent scaring. The hotel blamed it on the non English speaking works. I have tried to call the hotel. No response from Hotel owner! Complaint file with Health Dept. They are also in the Bed Bug registry for NC. read more

I've thought long and hard about writing this. I suppose the long and short of it is this: Carolina Motel has a policy which they do not publish on their website or convey to their staff. Well, I have a policy too. I do not recommend or do business with people who do not care about Customer Service or taking responsibility for their stuff. I travel to Franklin often and have always had wonderful service at the old Franklin Hotel. When I found it was closed I searched for another place to make frequent stays. Carolina Motel seemed such a place. It's clean and has a pretty setting. I stayed there last month and it was nice. I told the guy on duty that I would be returning in July. He said great - glad to have ya. So yesterday I called to reserve a room for one night (it's all I need), and the nice lady handling the phones told me about the only room left. When I got ready to reserve it she informed me that she couldn't actually take my credit card info because she was just a Housekeeper. I asked -"So you have no management of any kind actually on duty who can take a reservation?" No, she was the only one there. She promised that the Manager would be in around 2:00 and would call me back to reserve. I asked her to be sure -"write it down" - because I wanted to definitely get that room. Well by the time 4:00 rolled around I called back. The guy (a Manager?) informed me that Carolina Motel has a 2-day minimum, and nothing he could do about it. I called back today to give them the opportunity to fulfill what they should have done yesterday. I got a totally disinterested Manager (I think her name was Debbie, but she was in such a hurry to get off the phone that I couldn't confirm). She was not interested, stating that she was busy; she didn't care what I had been told yesterday by the person on duty; and that policy was policy. As I said earlier, I have a policy too. My complaints are the following: Dismal Customer Service; Failure of Management to take responsibility; Failure of Management to fulfill verbal agreements; Failure of Management to promptly return phone calls; Refusal of Management to attempt to address customer grievances; Placing a Housekeeper in a position to have to try to handle Front Desk duties for which she was not trained. Failure to keep a Front-Desk person/ manager on-site to handle customer questions, grievances, etc. And the most grievious issue, and the one that will keep me from ever going back to Carolina Motel was the disrespect and total lack of concern for the predicament I was put in because of this motel Manager's poor management skills. I'm guessing that a simple phone call to a supervisor would have taken care of the issue read more

Update. Went to the motel to see Nancy today. Did not go well. I asked for a refund on the $80 I spent on the hotel that was 1.25 hours away from the advertised location. All I want is my money back. Robert (Nancy's husband) was somewhat competent but Nancy quickly emerged from the back room to yell at me about how there was no way in this world I was getting a refund. They continue to say they lost money because I no-showed on the room. How is that so if they charged my card for the room anyway? I'm extremely displeased with this imitation of a business. This place is disgusting. The woman (bitch) at the desk was rude on the phone and in person. We found a Roach in the bathroom, and the towels were about twenty years old. Also I'm pretty sure there were bed bugs as my son woke up with bumps on his stomach. Do not stay here. The people were very rude to have such a nasty hotel. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience! This hotel is incredibly clean, updated, and quaint. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The grounds are well cared for and you can tell there is a lot of pride in ownership. The little touches here make a big difference-- my room (king) had a fridge and microwave, hair dryer, a spot to hang clothes, and a little toothbrush holder in the bathroom. The chairs and table outside of each room lent a friendly, homey feel, as each afternoon people gathered in groups to talk on the porch. The pool is clean and well-kept. The breakfast was lovely...I can't give this hotel enough praise! I never caught a wi-fi signal in my room, but I'm sure management would have come up with a solution had I asked. It's right off 441, so don't expect a quiet getaway, but there is a lovely view of mountains in the distance and it's convenient to Franklin, Clayton, Highlands, Asheville, and tons of great hiking. Definitely stay here when you're passing through! read more
