The Lifts are smooth and comfortable. There was not a very long line. The workers were helpful when trying to figure out my sizing if skiis. There is only one green trail here, I did not try the blue trails yet so I can only review that one trail. The trail is out and around to the left and then down a couple little bumps it then leads into a flat straight away for a little bit at the end so you will want to get your speed up for it. It then connects to two other trails and gets a little steep at the bottom. It's a good time and you smell some yummy waffles at the bottom of the mountain the burgers are not bad priced at only $8 and $9 for a cheeseburger. Compared to other ski resorts it's a good price. read more

While on one hand, I'm a bit hesitant to even write this review as I want to keep this ski location on the lowdown.. on the other I feel compelled to give such an awesome family-owned business their kudos and props! I went this past Saturday with a couple of friends and had an absolute blast shredding the mountain for almost 7 hours straight. This mountain is certainly on the smaller side compared to the big mountain names, however as someone who is easing back into snowboarding after two year hiatus, it was perfectly large enough for me. I really loved that the lines were small, parking was easy and that it was only 2 hours drive away. If you're a beginner, just getting started or even rusty for a long layoff, this is the mountain for you. I accompanied my friends (whom are all beginner skiers) through the beginner levels for a couple of hours before moving on to the blues and black diamond routes. They have several progression zones as part of their Terrain Based Learning™ system, which allows you to gain confidence and hone skills in a controlled, systematic approach. At the main food lodge and bar, there was an awesome band rocking out all evening. Nothing is better than sipping on some hot cocoa and eating snacks while relaxing to old school classic rock music and laughing with friends. Don't tell anybody else how fun this place is because I don't want it to get more crowded. Honestly, everyone said this place was the most fun of all the Connecticut resorts and they were right. Not a huge resort, but it more than makes up for that with style and enthusiasm. This place caters to young people and families. They are smart and they put a lot of effort into their terrain park and they make sure the park ends down by the main lodge, so my kids got to see riders hitting the park features and got more excited about learning to ride. read more

Took my daughter who is a beginner skiing on a Sunday afternoon. We rented skis, which was quick and easy. Brand new boots this year. Headed to the beginner area and started our adventure. Beginner area is very small, but she wanted to start there as we hadn't skied in a few years. A few trips down that slope and we were ready to move on. We then went to the top of the mountain and took the easy path back down. The conditions are not great because of the warm weather this year. It was a sheet of ice and some slushy snow on top. We were able to get in a bunch of runs though, navigating around the fallen skiers everywhere. We ate as well. Sweet potato fries and chicken tenders. Very good! read more

Currently at the mountain for the weekend and pretty upset I decided to come here. I worked at ski mountains like Mount Snow, Stratton, and Catamount for years growing up in various positions, so I feel for these places given the winters we've been having. These places deserve every dollar of that ski ticket, but what I saw today was bad business and outright robbery. My wife and I took our 4 and 5 year old kids to ski this weekend, and while we couldn't ski due to injuries we wanted our kids to ski. It's their second time on the snow, but they're decent enough for the bunny hill, and we were told over the phone and in person at the ticket window that we could watch, but not use the lifts. We were okay with that, but that wasn't actually true. While our kids were skiing on the bunny slope we were kicked from the area twice for "insurance reasons". We were told we needed lift tickets just to stand there at the base of the bunny hill to supervise our kids. We questioned what we do if we don't, and the ski patrol told us to wait out of sight at this ski school building that was practically in the parking lot. Okay...infuriating because I'm not leaving my young kids alone during Presidents' Day weekend. Since that was out of the question we purchased a lift ticket for my wife, so she could watch them in an attempt to save the trip, but she was kicked again for not having skis on. This isn't a family friendly place and honestly we felt hustled. Ultimately this mountain expected me and my wife to hang out at the lodge while our 4 and 5 year old kids ski unsupervised during Presidents' Day weekend. Not a good look. There were so many families leaving and well over a dozen or two fathers and mothers that I saw nervously looking for their kid on the bunny slope from a mile away. I get it they must be struggling, and I'd be happy to pay an entrance fee, but forcing people to buy entrance fees at the price of a lift ticket and a ski rental or suggest having your young kid ski by themselves is insane and dangerous. It's so unbelievable that no one at the mountain that worked there even believed it... until I got the manager to come out and say it to our face in front of all of us, employees working at the office and ticket desk included. Everyone was in equal amazement. If you want to get your kids into the sport this isn't the place. There's plenty others that will let your kids ski and let you, your mom, your grandma, etc. watch and enjoy in all the fun. This place is sneaky, and if they want to charge lift tickets plus rental for parents to watch their kids from the base of the bunny slope then they should tell that to people when they call or when that question is asked upon purchasing a ticket. Ski patrol shouldn't be the ones making people aware of this when it's already too late and the money is spent. They could have made a ton of money on food, but they ran out...almost comical. What a joke. Maybe I'm over reacting, so tomorrow my 4 and 5 year old are on their own and they can meet me at the bar for happy hour when they're done. read more

We went yesterday and snow conditions is not the best due to warm weather. However, the staff there is amazing. Food is not pricey and you have huge room to rest your feet when you are tired. Bathroom is clean. Parking and checkin bag is FREE. They change all the ski equipment this year. ALL THE SKI ARE NEW!! I will give it 10 stars if I could. :) read more

So we did a four week session of ski lessons in January and had a great time. My ten y/o improved quite a bit and can now keep up with me on the slopes. He tried snow boarding for the first time this weekend and had a lesson for that as well. Going from skiing to snowboarding can be tough but he did really good under the instruction provided by the great staff. I had a pleasant time skiing yesterday after not having been on skiis for 35 years. This mountain seemed to be the perfect spot to see if I remembered my skills after so long. Everyone was nice and friendly except for the man who operated the base chair lift in the center of the complex. He managed to ruin the good feeling I had about the day by a rageful, verbal assault on me and caused me to leave the complex feeling humiliated, embarrassed and verbally assaulted. When I entered the chair lift for the first time, he told me to pull my gator up. It was just under my nose and I hadn't noticed the sign indicating that masks were required OUTSIDE at the lift entrance. I wasn't trying to be defiant. I complied with the mask mandate each time I entered the chair lift entrance after that. But as I was leaving, this same man approached me again with great anger and aggression. Apparently the source of this mans rage now was that I didn't have my gator pulled up while I was leaving the complex for home. He screamed at me on the top of his lungs from 40 feet away saying, "PUT YOUR MASK ON!! IF I HAVE TO TELL YOU AGAIN, YOU ARE OUTA HERE!" Mount Southington is a much better place they have snow and their management is stellar, My son had to rent skis and there was hardly any wait and the rental shop personnel were knowledgeable. Three words: Affordable. Accessible. Attainable. This is a really great learning mountain. It's much more affordable than Ski Sundown. Group lessons with rentals and full mountain lift is less than $100 and even cheaper for just the learning mountain. If you have done lessons and have your own equipment, it's like $35 or less for a 4-hour lift ticket. I plan to start my kids here this season. Will update my review with that experience soon. It's also very safe even if you are alone because there is staff skiing/monitoring for safety literally everywhere you turn. And being that it is a smaller mountain, it is more attainable for the staff to have that kind of visibility. Oh and the cherry on top, there is a little waffle stand that is the perfect ending to a cold few hours working hard on that mountain! The owner makes Belgian waffles from scratch with love. You can have toppings like fresh Bavarian cream, strawberries, chocolate fondant, powdered sugar, etc. Absolutely delicious. A great place to learn to ski. We took a class as we haven't skied in 5 years so need a refresher. Our instructor Alan (sorry forgot your last name) is worth a mention, he was patience, friendly and dedicated to our party of 5. Overall this place is not overwhelming and easy to navigate around. The walk from the parking lot is reasonable so if you're hauling ski boots, poles and helping your kids with their equipment etc...this can make a difference. Though not gourmet, they have decent food options that can tie you over for the entire day. Lots of friendly and helpful staff. Can't wait to come back again. read more

My brother and I picked up snowboarding this past season and absolutely love this place for learning the basics and getting better. Today we decided to stop by for approximately 10min to see what the mountain looks like in the warmer months and kill some time before we went to Farmingbury for golf. Unfortunately one of the staff members (a female) got very nasty with us. She came over to our car, accused us of doing drugs, called our visit a "good excuse", and told us to leave...when the parking lot was completely empty...and we were only there for literally 10min. I don't understand what we did to cause that exchange but it is not appreciated. Other than that we really do love Mt. Southington in the winter. read more

Comfortable not commercialized. I want to be detailed about this so here goes. Myself, my wife and 2 children 10 & 5 have been here a few times in the past 2 years. The mountain is perfect for toddlers to experts. The Mountain: I consider myself intermediate and it's perfectn for me without taking the very steep runs which would be great for experts. There are a few places to eat either a fast bite or sit down. Lessons: My 5 year old loves the children's learning area. It's like a fenced in chuckie cheese where you bring ur toddler/child, they take ur name and phone number then he/she learns for 1-4 hours and you can watch or ski yourself and pick them up with a numbered ticket. The adult/young adult lessons are very helpful. My son learned to snowboard from them and wife who has just started to learn is doing great. Staff: I can't say enough. I have had the pleasure of speaking to staff from food service, lifts, counter, teaching/lessons as well as a manager Jay who I think runs the mountain. All are helpful and seem to like taking the time to talk and give advice. All in all a real down to earth great place to ski, board and learn. read more

It's Connecticut. Killington this is not. Apples to oranges, of course. Expect short runs, not particularly challenging terrain, and relatively slow lifts. But the WHOLE place is lit at night. Not just a few select runs, everything. From morning to night (8PM on weekdays, 10PM on weekends), you can ride every trail here. Highly convenient for those who may want to do a little slope-hitting on any given weeknight after work. Typical ski season is December 1st until April 1st, understandably short. But it's cheap (relatively speaking), and it's close. Ways to save include showing up at 5:30 on weekends for the 6-10PM night ski ($33), or late afternoons on weekdays for the 3-8PM ski ($30). Now those are reasonable lift rates. I'm especially amazed by the price of a season pass - $450 bucks. That is not bad at all for a place you can hit a few times a week for four months. The one weakness has got to be amenities. I honestly don't think the snack bar has changed since 1963. As a local, this doesn't present a problem for me. But the highlight of your trip will be the skiing, not the chicken fingers. read more

I can only give 2 stars because overall day was GREAT on 12/23, from check in to conditions, lines, etc, all great until the ski shop "owner" refused to exchange a pair of medium sized gloves that my son couldn't get his hands into. I bought them during a bathroom break for me while my son continued skiing w a pair of ripped gloves from last season. The first employee was very nice and removed the tags and packaging for me. When I returned the first time to exchange, employee said to come back when the owner is there. I did this and was told by the "owner" that he couldn't exchange the gloves because he didn't have the original packaging. "I'm sorry, I don't know what you want me to do." Yea, real "sorry". How about exchanging them?! What's so hard about REWRITING the original handwritten price tag and putting the gloves in a new bag? I'm all for supporting small mountains AND small businesses but this guy, ruined my day. And 1990 called- they want their gold hoop and diamond earring back. read more

Conditions have been really good lately! Especially with the big blizzard of 2013. I came two days in a row and had a blast both times.

After over a foot of snow poured in CT, I took my cousins skiing here for their first time. They took lessons and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's about 20 minutes outside of Hartford and predominantly a local ski area. It's a good place for beginners and kids. They had only one of the 2 black trails open, but was really an intermediate's blue by comparison to mountains in Catskills, NY. Overall, I was bored after the first 2 hours and was just trying to teach my cousins to ski after that. Pricing is similar to Poconos and Catskills. The parking lot was right across the street and there was hardly a line on 2 of the 4 lifts. Plenty of space to ski without running into someone. read more

This is a decent local mountain to go for a quick family ski trip. This ski area is obviously NOT comparable to Stowe (where we have seasons passes), but Mt. Southington has a decent mix of terrain and is well groomed. It is a wonderful place for little kids and first time skiers, or for a seasoned skier than just wants to stretch their legs without the 5 hour drive EACH WAY. We have gone there twice so far this year and will most likely go back again a few more times. But, I have three important observations 1. for the love of Mike - upgrade your chair lifts, 2. get more personable staff to engage the skiers AKA customers, and maybe help people up when they wipe out getting on or coming off the lift and finally 3. get a decent restaurant/lodge. For such a great and accessible location, it would be really great to have a comfortable place to sit down and get a meal and a few drinks....maybe even extend the deck on front of the bar/cafeteria, and add a few fire pits. I will definitely go back, and am even considering getting season's passes next year as they are so close by and it would be a great place to go and get a few runs in at night or on a weekday if you have some time off or a snow day to fill up. read more

My rating isn't fair since this is a beginners area and I am an experienced skier. I have never been a fan of Mt Southington but it's not the people. They are among the friendliest in the industry. It's the Mountain and the kids. You feel distinctly out of place among the crush of kids in the lodge and on the mountain. The problem with the mountain is that it's very flat on top and moderately steep near the bottom. As a beginner I hated it because it was always to steep or too flat. As an experienced skier there is no challenge. read more

I booked online and the receipt email didn't match the date or even what I booked (I booked night time w/o rentals and got charged day time with rentals ). The day was even wrong. I was booking for weeks out and it booked it for the next day. When I called the staff that answered was rude and said there are no cancellations/rescheduling for any reason. I booked night time skiing for two @ $70 and ended up getting charged $180 with nothing to show for it. When I emailed customer service I got no response after several emails. Great local ski mountain. Haven't been in several years, but it was always good for a nice day or night. Lots of garbage as you go up on the main chair. They placed a trash can below the lift, as if to encourage people to try to aim from above. As a result the area around the can is a mess. Other than this confusing decision the slopes are actually pretty steep and snowy, and if you can chill for the twenty minute ride up the hill, you can ski a few miles from your house. read more

This spot is okay. I did have fun with this being my first time skiing. The rental people were helpful. After that, no one guided us on to what we were doing and where to go etc. There just wasn't much guidance. Even when I would continuously need help, no one was there to help me but helped other people but I'm not going to get into that. The hills aren't that bad and it's good that they have multiple hills so it's not crowded amongst one hill. The food and drinks is also very expensive. $4 for a water?? Little Mt. Southington did a great job this holiday weekend. Granular powder, with only a little ice despite all the crazy weather lately. All lifts and trails were open, and the place wasn't too crowded. Lessons for my son were excellent, and got him back on skis after a long snowboard phase. We got in a dozen runs--everything from bunny slopes to moguls--and had a great time. For a family day out, this is as good as Connecticut gets. Frequent skier pass saved me $40 today--must-have for a family that likes to ski but can't afford to hit Vermont every weekend! Loving the Waffle Haus at the base, too :-) read more
