    Hotel room

The Man and Oldest Son stayed in the hotel part of the Lodge on their way to South Dakota. The room was standard, nothing extra special but very decent. They ate at both the Prospector's Tent (all you can eat pancakes!) and the pizza spot. They loved the Prospector's Tent! We stayed in the row cabins on our way back from South Dakota. It IS camping grounds, so be prepared for flies and bugs! The room was fairly large with two beds, microwave, fridge, kitchen-style sink, kitchen ware and appliances, and fireplace. The Fun Zone was exactly that - fun! We were only there one night but I was impressed by all they had to offer. The cabin was a little bit on the pricey side, but overall, this was a very good place to stay. The atmosphere and staff were extremely nice and accommodating. My daughter accidentally left her headphones in a drawer. We were able to call the facility; they found her headphones and are shipping them back to our CA home. Definitely a family-friendly place to stay!

This resort is spectacular from the views. Some sites have Mountain View's others do not. We were in the 500's area down by the rodeo, which was nice because it was close to the fun zone. The resort offers a lot to do. Pros: beautiful scenery, rentals on site golf cart, cars, and UTV's, live music, restaurant, bar, snack shop, and more. Rental cars are on site. It was worth it but we paid $134 a day for a 2009 vehicle (not in the best shape). Cons: no TV at all when in the 500 section. I know it states no cable TV but our antenna didn't get anything. Spotty internet service around resort. There were only 3 of us and our child (13) was charged $6 a day extra. There is a resort fee added on $13 a day. No extra charge for pets. I'd recommend getting a golf cart if you are far away from everything for easier access. Rent prior to arriving in case there are none left. It would have been a 5/5 but the extra charge in resort fee and child along with no TV at all really was a downside. Our site was $92 per night but with the kid fee (there was only three of us total) $6 and resort fee $13, it came to $111 per night plus taxes.

Showers- nice that there is a locking door, but they all need a deep cleaning

This RV place is super close to Mount Rushmore, Keystone and Hill City. Pros: Super family friendly Good rates Pancake breakfast and pizza onsite Great location Felt very safe Appreciated the locks on the Individual shower stalls Friendly check in process and staff Cons Wi-Fi is very spotty and almost non-existent Campsites leave little room for a trailer and vehicle Entire campground is pretty tightly set up so they can pack in a lot of rvs but you lose individual space and privacy Bathrooms and showers always seemed dirty and in need of a cleaning and better lighting

Pros- Huge property for space to roam, bike trail, fishing pond, hiking trails nearby, 2 playgrounds, big camp store for all your needs and wants, turtle town location on site for ice cream/pizza/wings. cons-laundry room really dirty (the one by the pool/splash pad), some of the Rv sites in the back lot with full hook ups can get really really muddy depending on where you are. The Fun Zone only goes from Memorial Day to Labor Day, I was aware of this before arrival so it wasn't a surprise but figured I'd make a note for others. Cell Signal is non existent for Verizon/t-mobile, my husband was able to do meetings no problem during the hours of 6am-3:45pm with our wifi extender. Easy drive to Mt Rushmore/needles highway/Custer state park/crazy horse memorial/hill city,SD /rapid city, SD.

Great camp ground the RV spots were great, the ice cream, coffee, bbq's, the grill and tap house was nice. Overall everything was great there was a pool, golf putting green, volleyball and more. Highly recommend

Riders beware before you book READ THIS!…read more We booked this spot based on the website stating "trail access" . I ended up calling due to questions around the permit needed to access trails. I was told to purchase one in town at the Conoco or somewhere else that sells them, ok fine no problem any other places that sell them?? Silence on the phone....crickets...ok ...then I asked about the trail access, hoping to get a site close to it because we have a side by side and I was told, and I quote "oh that trail is very small ", ok, how do we access the the other trails, "I am not sure you would have to call and find out ", really, you don't know the trail system but advertise trail access and have utv/atv pictures plastered on your website. Frustrating. When I said let me speak with my husband we may cancel if we can't access the trails, response was "ok"....huh?!? I mean, your not even going to ask me how you can help or get me a number or I mean just anything helpful? NOPE! She then went on about possible snow at the tree line and that we most likely couldn't ride, but to call and find out, nothing provided to help me find this out! How do you NOT know this, you have trail access? So again, why doesn't it say "seasonal" trail access or a disclaimer to verify trail access with maybe a link or something....anything!?? She then tells me, your UTV has to be licensed, street legal to ride the road to the other trails, but still doesn't know where they are but most likely closed. Small trail map on thier website but when I asked about this trail, wasn't sure if that was a trailhead or the small one she told me about, frustrating. Now, I fully understand, the person who was speaking to me, who was very nice and very pleasant, could be wrong or not understand trails, but for $65 dollars a night and a permit fee on a "hope" to ride, just no. I feel the website is misleading, staff not informed about trail system, SMH. Now, on the site they have a small trail map, is that the trail they are referring to the is small or is this a trail head, is there another trail, THEY HAD NO CLUE. I am aware that as a rider you have to do research, ultimately it's up to us to find trail maps, know the laws etc...but don't advertise trail access and you can't tell me where, how to access, how far is the trail, is it open.....basic questions, should have answers. We have been on a ton of trails, ORV parks, traveling through the US riding and each place provided so much more information, extremely helpful. We canceled at this Campsite due to lack of help or information. Booked today at 9:50am, called with questions then decided to cancel at 12:30pm same-day, still charged $25 dollars to cancel, I understand about covering cost and time, but honestly your staff is not well informed to help riders feel confident in booking/staying.

We had a fire ring and location is somewhat hilly so difficult for handicap to get around. All in all a great location and easy to find. Nice general store on site. We stayed for four nights in late May at the Hot Springs, SD KOA…read more We have visited the Black Hills several times over the years and wanted a quieter experience than is offered at Palmer Gulch or Rafter J. This KOA at Hot Springs definitely fit the bill! A beautiful little KOA right off Highway 79 close to downtown Hot Springs. We used this KOA as a base of operations for exploring the Black Hills / Custer / Rushmore area in addition to Badlands National Park and of course, Wall Drug! Although not as close to Rushmore as Hill City, the drive through Custer State Park is absolutely amazing! Our site was a FHU pull-through patio #51. This is a great site as it's on the end with lots of room on the camp side. Very long with ample room for tow vehicles / toads. As we travel with two juvenile labrador retrievers (LOL) getting them exercise was not a problem. Their dual area fenced Kamp K9 was a great place to let them let off steam. A lush grassy enclosure! There is also a leashed pet walk area at the back of the campground to walk the pups . Pine trees are everywhere and it created a nice shaded atmosphere. Interior roads are dirt and sites are gravel, but dust was no problem. Our patio site seemed fairly new and had lots of room with table, chairs, fire ring and gas grill. There was also lots of space to set up our outdoor dog pen. Perhaps it was the time of year, but everything in the area was very green and beautiful. We did have haze from the Canadian fires one night, but it was not a problem. Staff was very helpful and offered tips on the surrounding areas. Camp store was smaller, but had a good variety of items. Pool was not open for the season yet, but it looked nice!

First, the hospitality and management are down to earth. Very friendly and were able to answer all our questions. They have a small store with some basics.. mustard, ketchup, and beer to name a few items. Very friendly. Second, the campsite was very reasonable considering full hookups and pull through. The campsites do share water, meaning one main water faucet that is split between two campsites. The pressure isn't a problem at all. Our problem was that my camper's water was on the front left of the camper. Given the sharing, my original 20 or so foot water hose couldn't reach. Our fault for not having an extension, but we ended up having to park the other way with the camper to hook up the water. Bottom line: we are newbie campers, so just make sure you have an extension. Lesson learned. They do have a cool little lake/pond that offers fishing and swimming as well as boat rentals. Water is clear and they have it sectioned off to prevent swimming too deep. Finally, you are within 5 or so minutes of Cold Brook Reservoir, an Army Corp of Engineers recreation area. They have a super nice beach, and facilities there. You are also within minutes of the cool little town of Hot Springs. If you are looking for a cool and out of the way campground with all the amenities, check this place out!
