If you choose to pair it on with the cliff, make sure to do that trail first and it will lead into the falls trail. The cliff trail is MUCH more challenging and is not recommended unless you are experienced with hiking. For the falls trail, I would recommend allotting 2-3 hours. It's a quick and easy trail that will take you maybe 45-1 hour each way depending on your experience, but you'll want to spend some time at the falls. Highly recommend!

It is on a mountain so you gain a lot of elevation during the hike which can make it pretty tiring. It is relentless, but just keep thinking about the view and you'll eventually make it to the top before you know it. The view is completely worth it. It took us about 1.5 hours to hike up and about 1 hour to get down going along the same trail. I'd suggest bringing water, snacks, and food to enjoy at the top of the mountain. You'll also want some time to sit and enjoy the views.

Rocks roots and…read more ruts Ripley Falls is a 100 foot high waterfall that takes on several different personalites. In the late summer and fall it is a quiet and well behaved little falls. A nice place to hike out with the kids, dogs and grandpa and have a picnic. However in the spring when the snows in the mountains start to melt it becomes raging torrent. The noise is actually deafening. In the winter in frequently freezes and huge icicles hang off it. The actually hike to get to the falls is only a half a mile and in the proper conditions is quite easy. However the trail frequently is wet and broken and ice forms easily so it's a bit more difficult than it looks. A woman I met on the trail said that this trail has a reputation as a leg breaker because of all the loose rocks and wet and slippery roots. Of course many other trails connect so you can hike for days if you want. The falls is just a starting point to far more rugged and interesting places and few people turn back here. Ripley Falls is just one of the many waterfalls in the area and a pleasant little diversion from more strenuous hiking. In the spring it is pretty impressive but it's still but still nice even in periods of low water. A nice spot to visit as long as you don't have you expectations too high.

Its lush, with thick foliage, mountains, lakes, and clear area views at many spots. There was so much to do there but we were on a clock. So chose to experience the Cog Railway (With my weak lungs, I wouldn't have been able to the hike anyway) It was misty and foggy when we left NH and was kinda worried but lady luck smiled on us and it turned out to be the perfect sunny but not stingy sunny. It was about a 30 min ride up. With constant commentary on the railway, the height it is going, history, use etcetc everything that can put one to sleep(;).... lol... yes and no... the history part was really interesting for me... as the other parts on mechanics must have interested the others... but he spoke non stop and that's something ! On top was the most amazing scenery. The clouds below u and just green mountains all around. At one point everyone and everything around seize to exist.... that kind of beauty. There is a cafe on top and everyone squeezed in as it got real chilly. Ones who cane prepared with coats, caps , gloves took their coffee and stood out- cause thats where u need to be . I think they gave us about an hour to spend before they come to collect us. U can miss and take the next one down provided it is not already full with the valid ticketed passengers. It was the last train of the day so we didn't have the option of waiting. It should be noted here that u can drive up to the top, almost to the top, but the Railroad experience is unique. The driver had explained that 4 states borders are visible... to me it was all just mountains, clouds, and my effort to try to capture my excitement in a camera so I would never forget it ....

Luckily the service station was a solid indoor space with proper heat and protection. All guests were surviving well despite the blizzard. There's a gift shop, a cafe, lots of sitting space, registration booth for hikers, and a museum. The cafe had hot and cold drinks and some food options. The gift was had plenty of nice souvenirs and MW merchandises. But the indoor space in general was little bit messy. The contracted post office was a nice surprise. We dropped couple of postcards to ourselves and friends from top of the mountain. But due to the blizzard we couldn't do any other activity like going to the observatory.

I was amped though because I was hoping for 3 things this trip to NH: viewpoints, water, and bridges. This had 2/3 and The Flume had given me the last piece the day prior. I got there around 11 which seemed to be pretty early as the trail was empty. So empty I second guessed myself as there were bear warning signs and no cell reception. After a brief pep talk I continued on my way. So glad I did because eventually other day and thru hikers joined the path. This trail goes for a little over 3 miles and ends at a waterfall and connects to other trails and mountains in the Whites. Much of it is abandoned railway and the old planks are still partially exposed along the path. The view downriver is breathtaking. I must have stood on the suspension bridge for 20 minutes taking it all in. Were it a bit warmer I would have joined some of the other brave souls and dipped my feet in! Things to know: -paid parking for a nominal fee. They have machines and the trust system. -tons of parking spaces -restrooms though I can't say if they're flush or not -right off the Kanc and close to Loon Mountain I can show you better than I can tell you - enjoy my pics!

When we noticed an opening, we asked nearby drivers if we could squeeze in, and they had no issue with it. As we were parking, an employee approached us in a very aggressive and unprofessional manner and told us we could not park there. We apologized and explained that we were not from the area and had not seen any signs. We were told that the rule was "well known to locals" and that a sign existed at the front of the line--more than 25 cars ahead, making it impossible for us to see. Despite the surrounding drivers having no objection, the employee demanded we leave and became increasingly hostile when we asked questions or requested a manager. At that point, the interaction escalated unnecessarily, and we decided it wasn't worth the confrontation and left. I've never experienced such a level of rudeness from a staff member over an honest misunderstanding. Clear signage and more professional communication would have avoided the entire situation. Someone even yelled out "stop being a parking nazi". I would have otherwise liked to review the venue itself, but we were unable to do so as we never made it inside.

The trail is beautiful, and easy for anyone (except a wheelchair, sorry) I have a bad knee with limited mobility, and this was doable for me! I'm so glad we made it out there today. The waterfall was at full force, and was so gorgeous. The little landing area at the bottom was full of downed trees, but the kids were having so much fun climbing and navigating. There were people flitting about in every which way, miniaturized by the big waterfall. The bridge was washed out, looking to be repaired, so I think one access from the loop was cut off. But people were navigating over the downed trees and on rocks. Nobody seemed to care. It was a blast! HIGHLY recommend this trail.
