My doctor and nurses have been pretty friendly and compassionate; good bedside manner and definitely very humanizing -- highly respectful and attentive to my needs. I'm here getting my foot treated because I stepped on a nail in my yard. I bought my house a week ago so I had no idea what all is my yard, my fence has a hole in it that my Aussie is entirely too aware of-- he dodged me, and the nail filled plank that I totally stepped on and the rest is history! For all the bad rep Mt Carmel West gets, the staff here have all been alright by me. I just got a text that the antibiotics the doc prescribed for my foot are ready and I haven't even been discharged yet. That's exceptional. I've literally only been here an hour. If there was zero stars able to be given that's exactly what I would give this emergency room they are disrespectful and do not care as people are just a number to them. My significant other was in the ER I have consent from him to give me information I spoke to three nurses they all refused to give me information even with his consent verbal consent was given he has a TBI and can't comprehend things speaking to the charge nurse on the phone her name was Jodi basically told me they've been in multiple times and told him what was going on and he can relay that information to me even though I just told this lady on the phone he has a traumatic brain injury and doesn't comprehend that's why you're having to tell him multiple times what's going on. Brittany who is currently there working is another one with an attitude they refuse to give information I've worked in the health care field for 20 plus years I know what HIPAA is about I also know when somebody gives their verbal consent you're allowed to talk to their significant other do not go to Mount Carmel for anything. This happened several years ago. Never went back. It was like a really scary three-ring circus in the ER. No nurses or registration persons anywhere to be found. No phone. The computer was locked. A security guard finally came out to register people. Did the best he could. One woman was there having a stroke. Someone else had just been shot. Still, nobody was there to take care of anything or anybody. I finally just left and went to Doctors Hospital in severe pain due to a chronic condition. Brand new ER, received attention and help immediately and was admitted. Mount Carmel West was total chaos. Like those drama shows they have on TV. Or worse. On TV someone finds the time to acknowledge the presence of a patient in distress. Not there.... read more

I was taken by Emergency Squad yesterday. I've never personally experienced any kind of medical emergency. I was sicker than I've ever been in my life and was scared to death! I was left laying there for over 5 hours. I could actually hear the nurses belittling me at the nurses station. I needed to use the bathroom and she and flat out ignored me. She finally told me to give her a minute. 15-20 later I asked a different person to help me. When that person told my nurse she rolled her eyes and said "I told her to give me a minute. Meanwhile I could see that she was basically sitting there chopping it up with the janitor. Nobody ever came to discuss what they there were doing (which was basically nothing) nor did they tell me what test were being run. There was a Social Worker type person that was nice but I forgot to ask her to call a friend or love one so somebody knew I was there. The nurse ignored my request to help me call someone until they decided to discharge me in disgusting soiled pants and no shoes. She basically called me a cab (I didn't have my cell bc I was out of it when the squad initially took me. When they finally discharged me in the exact condition I came in she had to call me a cab (which was an obvious inconvenience). I was then told to go wait in the waiting room until the cab came. I was in soiled pants with no shoes. Had someone let me make a call earlier I might have been able to get a ride. But, I was so late when they basically kicked me out. It was one of the worst experiences in my life. I wouldn't take my dog to that hospital. read more

The nurses on the 4th Floor Tower at Mt. Carmel West rock! My husband received excellent care post-surgery. Skilled, attentive, very caring.

I had surgery here a few months ago. They called in about a week in advance to ask me to pay in advance. They offered a 10% discount if I paid in full. Get that - they make so much profit they are willing to cut 10% off if you pay in full in advance. Those suckers not wealthy enough to pay in full in advance just have to pay more. Although they were able to spare the manpower to call to collect my money, they could not call in advance to let me know that they would not give me twilight (anesthesia) unless I had someone stay the night with me at my house. They waited until the night before to tell me this information. Since I live alone, I ended up having to HAVE THE SURGERY AWAKE. When I expressed dismay at finding this information out so late, the woman on the phone was RUDE TO ME. A day after surgery, someone called to ask about my patient experience. I told them what happened and they made sure to let me know that it wasn't their fault - specifically that it was not their responsibility to tell me that. Despite paying about $1500 up front, I still got billed a few more times, one for inpatient services despite it being an outpatient procedure (they wheeled me into an inpatient room for the 5 minutes it took them to complete the paperwork necessary to release me - no observation necessary since I had no anesthesia). You can't pay those bills with a credit card without an added fee. But you can send in a check by mail (what year is this?) Also, the billing folks were RUDE as well. I would not use this hospital again. In response to this review, a representative from the hospital asked me to call to provide more details. Despite not wanting to waste any more time on my negative experience, I decided to call, trying to help ensure another patient doesn't have the same experience I have. I gave a brief description of what happened and the first question the woman asks is "do you have anxiety?" I am not sure how this is relevant except to build a case against me in case I decide to sue. Inquiring about the patient's psychological status has absolutely nothing to do with the concern I presented. I ended the call there as, consistent with my other experiences there, it was evident that they had no interest in using the feedback to improve their patient care. read more

Teresa I went to Mount Carmel hospital due to having chest pains that were so intense that I felt like someone was sitting on my chest and stomach at the same time they put me in the ER and started to do a EKG and found nothing they gave me a nitro and it took the pain away for a short time and the pain came back and again they gave me another nitro and the same happened again they did blood work and it came back ok they had no explanation for my intense pain I came to the hospital at 2 am and they kept me in the ER until 8:00 am all they did was give me nitro and take blood asked if I could drink anything and was told that I could not due to test that they needed to do so I had nothing to eat or drink since 7:00 am from the day before. they put me in a room upstairs at 8:00 in the morning and took me off The EKG when they put me in the room the nurses asked if I was still having pain I said yes and they again gave me more nitro and left the room and did not show back up for a least 2 hours later never putting me back on the monitor to see if something changed they still would not let me eat or drink. When the cardio doctor came in he changed all the test that they were suppose to do and again was told they could not find anything so why could I not eat and got no answer another cardio doctor came in and he totally he had a different plan and said the other doctor was not treating me for what needed to be done. All they did when I got upstairs was to keep giving me nitro and nothing else. The only time they came in the room is for vitals or blood and nothing else we were at the hospital for over 20 hours and they treated us like trash when they found out that I could eat they offered me no breakfast or lunch or dinner they treated other patients on the floor better than me I could have had a heart attack and they would not even known. I have never ever seen such a disaster of emergency care system in my 56 years of living I would not recommend this hospital to anyone a homeless person that was in the hospital for to get drugs was treated better than me and I had a medical emergency I just moved to Ohio and if this was the last hospital on earth I would die before ever going there again from the ER staff the doctors and nurses this was the biggest disaster that I have ever seen all they did was give me 8 nitro's and nothing else which by the time I got home upset my stomach so bad I couldn't eat. when it was time to leave the doctors again failed me by not giving me the proper paperwork I needed a note for work because they were incompetent on try to help me I had to stay 20 hours with no answers I needed a note and they even screwed that up a doctor who didn't treat me had to write it what is wrong with this hospital I don't trust this hospital or it medical staff to treat me or any member of my family this hospital needs a overhaul when I was told that I could leave you never seen someone leave so fast this place sucks. read more

Terrible terrible terrible My daughter's Dr. Called the hospital to have her come up to get ready tot deliver the next day. The hospital told her to be there at 6pm. It is now 9pm and they still are not in a room. One staff member said the room was being cleaned, another said they were waiting for someone to have a baby. Now they told her to go home and call in the morning to se if there is a room available. They live an hour and a half away. She said the lobby was dirty and creepy and the bathrooms were disgusting. This is her first baby and this I has been an awful experience. I do not recommend this hospital but this is where her Dr. Delivers so she didn't really have a choice :( two thumbs down read more

Wow! That's all I can say. We were a little hesitant to use MCW because of its location, but that is were the Surgeon insisted, now we know why. My wife had bilateral knee replacement today at Mount Carmel West. They knocked it out of the park from the minute we walked in. Friendly people everywhere. They moved us through the process quickly and informed us of what was going to happen and when consistently. The waiting area gals were terrific, took my name made sure to note where I was sitting, and kept me informed of her progress. As soon as my wife got to her room post surgery, the nurses were on it making sure she was comfortable, everyone introduced themselves and they did their jobs professionally. Even the transportation guy was funny, very courteous, and responsive. Two hours after surgery, a physical therapist arrived to start treatment. They had her up walking!!! The therapist was very friendly and pushed her just hard enough!!! Service so good I had to get on here and let everyone know. Great job Mt. Carmel West! read more

I have been at this hospital and had a wonderful experience. Well this time was the complete opposite. I started out with Sarah at Mount Carmel Grove City, and truthfully, this nurse was so disconnected and unhelpful, to the absolute point of rudeness. She would not respond to any request. Then I am transferred to Mount Carmel West floor 6. If you receive floor 6, ask to be transferred to floor 4 (world of difference). I received Larshmi and not impressed. I received the most pompous doctor, Dr. Kirsten Duffy. They would prefer that you experience pain then help. To make matters worse, she has not even consulted with me. She did not exam me throughly, but I am sure I will receive a bill from a person who never made an effort to talk with me. I will not pay his bill. I will not return to Mount Carmel. There are plenty of hospital's available. And upon discharge, I am given paperwork from a Dr. Sagar Gandhi which I was never examed by. That was the second doctor who ordered labs and fluids that never examed me, never spoke with me, I never met them. I am contacting the State Board. Funny thing is, I bet I reveive a bill from them. And for what? Being a ghost doctor. read more

My son was very well taken care of by the nurses in icu in tower 4. Mckenzie and Marcy have such big hearts and were very patient and helpful. Every nurse he had was pretty awsome but these 2 stand out. read more

Trash,Trash and more TRASH !!!!! My elderly mother went in with extreme pains in her side, literally bawling her eyes out. I've never seen her like that in my entire life. She told them about her pains and they said they'd be right back with pain medication and some warm blankets for her. TWO HOURS LATER is when my mother got her medication. They said she had pancreatitis but they were too busy so they sent her home. I am so very disappointed with the lack of care here and I will do whatever it takes not to go back!! read more

All's well and good until they decide you have been there long enough or your insurance quit paying. They decided to discharge my Mother in law after being there for 10days, still had pneumonia, COPD and going into Apib. They agreed to transfer her to a rehab facility instead of home. But they did not give her any of her meds or breathing treatments once they knew she was leaving. She went without meds for 13hr! After getting to the nursing home (which was a nightmare in itself) she finally got her breathing treatment so she could breath! But, just as we figured would happen she went into Aphib again! She is back in the hospital but NOT Mt. Carmel West!!!!! read more

My boyfriend had a tragic accident, a fractured cervical vertebrae with paralysis to his arms and legs from arterial and spinal cord damage. Although the surgeon, NP and nurses were amazing the financial dept. and social security rep were pathetic. No respect for what a patient is going through. The exact same day that he was told this was going to be long term a financial employee came to his room and wanted him to take out a loan that would be payable in full within 6 months. I might add, for a substantial amount of money...here is the problem, are they so stupid or money hungry that they do not realize someone with paralysis of the arms and legs cannot work so how can they possibly pay back a loan in 6 months? This was and is a very traumatic event, imagine yourself going from walking to laying flat on your back, unable to move and then being pressed for money when you have never even received a bill! What caring, compassionate people! And to go further the social security rep for disability walks into the room and says that she is willing to help but he first must sign papers. Problem? Definitely! had she bothered to see why he may need disability she would have known that he could not move and that it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to sign anything...slap in the face yet again and would you trust her to represent you? I understand that patient care is a business but lets not leave the compassion out of it people. Money can at least wait until a person begins to understand that they may never move again and until they receive a bill! Hopefully these employees and the powers that be will never have to experience such a tragic event but if they do, Heaven forbid they have the same uncaring, harassing treatment that they themselves provided! I have an on going health issue that i havent been able to get help with because of some unfore seen events like a cancer scare and a bad doctor that i had to fire. As a result i have had to go to the er for the pain and relaxation of extreamly tight knotted up muscles. I went to Mt Carmel twice in the past 6 months and both times were off. The first time they didnt want to do anything but a strong ibprofin and a valume . I didnt complain because even though i dont want the pain, i was happy they helped my muscles. If you ever had a spasm in the back of your calf just imagine that hardness in your back or upper legs. Last week i had to go again because the pain clinic couldnt take my insurance . This experence had to be by far the worst. After waiting for close to two hours the doctor came in, sat on his stood, kicked his legs out as if he was on break, and asked why i was there i went on to explain that my whole left side was knotted up and hard and that i didnt want them to do nothing for pain( because of the weirdness the last time i was there ) but i was hoping they could help with my muscles. I was shocked when the doctor said i wouldnt be helping you if i gave you narcotics. I repeated what i said about my muscles and thats when he told me it would be unethical for him to give me a muscle relaxer even though it helps me sleep and that i should take a sleeping pill. Then a story about how they are adicting, which they arent unless they are used wrong. He said he would give me a shot of ibprofin and left the room. I was so upset and angry. Not just for being treated like a drug abuser ( which he had nothing to support) but because even drug abusers should be examined for whats wrong and this doctor did nothing. We waited almost twenty minutes before deciding to leave. I told him i had strong ibprofin at home so i already knew shot wouldnt help. I told them i was leaving and they still didnt bring paperwork and they refused to give me the doctors name so i could report him to the medical board. I left. When i got home i called their complaint line. Thats a joke. They couldnt give me doctors name and they told me it would take a month for them to give me a responce. I then posted a review on their patient website. Insult to injury they removed it shortly after. I almost forgot to mention the elevator. As i was leaving in more pain then when i got there the elevator door actually closed on me. I wasnt only one that night that got bad treatment. There was a guy in a wheelchair that fell out and the man helping him ( if you call it help) flew him back in the chair. The man had a herneated disk. For your own health, go somewhere other than Mt Carmel! My experence happened because i was judged for how i look or because i was put on their little drug abuser list by a pissed off doctor. Dont actually matter why because it shouldnt of happened at all!!!! If i am on a list how can you fight it and should we all be very afraid to report bad doctors??? read more
