Good by and good riddance, worst care I've ever gotten. Nurse and Doctor was rude and treated me awful.

The nurses on the 4th Floor Tower at Mt. Carmel West rock! My husband received excellent care post-surgery. Skilled, attentive, very caring.

Having been moving and lifting heavy things, we worried that it could be a hernia or appendicitis. We opted to drive 70 miles to avoid nearby more rural hospitals. We used to live nearby and in the past had rare but positive experiences with Mount Carmel. We did not have TOO long of a wait to get taken to a "room". But the room had no bed, remains of food and a bottle of urine. When staff interacted with us, they were friendly and seemed competent but interactions were so infrequent that we felt forgotten even though this was Saturday afternoon and the ER did not seem busy with serious cases. All total during a 6 hour stay, staff interacted with us for maybe 15 minutes. Can't you just poke your nose in and update us? We aren't demanding or difficult people. As luck would have it, the problem wasn't serious but it might have been and you are always scared until you get an answer. Another thing, when he had to go to the bathroom, the nurses station told me to ring for a nurse. How? I went back looked around the room for a call button. Eventually I found a gadget hanging behind his bed, out of sight, that looked like it might work. Shouldn't that have been handed to him with instructions on how to call for help when he was being hooked up to the monitors. And how do you adjust the bed? When we left, shouldn't they have told him, they were going to take out the needle. We thought we were on our own. Blood everywhere. At least on this day, Mount Carmel dropped the ball on patient communication. Parking though is free.

Liked how friendly security was, they saw me circling so I asked about parking and they were very helpful. THey saw me on my way out and asked if I found everything ok, which was so nice! The facility is beautful! I like that the main desk is big, with lots of staff, is right inside the entrance so you really can't NOT find where you're going. They noticed me and asked if I needed help finding where I was going. I was hanging out by the security door for a while, to get my badge, and they also noticed that I was there for a while and asked if I needed assistance. I thought that was very thoughtful and nice that they're keeping eyes on the comings and goings and what's happening in their surroundings. I liked this facility and first impressions were nice!

Here is why: Whole trip was from 5:50 pm-8:10pm Have you been to other ER/EDs.... ? Oh they are awful. This was new, clean and efficient. I have been to OSUs ED only to encounter people waiting to be seen from the night before. So to seen right away was impressive. To have access to a doctor within 5 min for what I was presenting was ideal. I presented with blurred vision, severe headache, and loss of sensation on a limb PCD sent me there to be screened for stroke. Im an ex athlete so have had my share of injuries, have had a neck injury that causes these symptoms but am also a cardiac patient so whenever this presents- off to an ER I must go. The staff here was better than OSUs ER and faster than St Anns. I was also presenting stomach pain sonthis doc did what my PCP did not - he cat scanned me and got right to the heart of what was causing much of the issue -an ulcer. If you do go there fingers crossed you get the two nurses named Christa/Krista and Dr Falk. All excellent.

I've previously been admitted to both OSU Wexner Medical Center and Riverside Hospital. All of that said, my only real complaint is that the chart is not available to my primary care team in the OSU system. My charts with OSU and Ohio Health are linked, so they can all see my continuum of care. I took screen shots of my Mount Carmel test results to share with my OSU care provider. When you come in by ambulance as I did, you get priority in the emergency department. So I got a room right away, and I was seen very quickly. I had donated blood earlier in the afternoon but after dinner I was passing out. They did all the standard tests and determined that my heart was fine. The nurses were responsive and helpful. The most impressive part of this visit was how quickly I was discharged. I expected a very late night, waiting for test results to come back, but the time came more quickly than I anticipated. I spent a total of three hours there. (I think. I was a little out of it at the beginning and not paying attention to when exactly I arrived.) It was not great that I couldn't have anyone with me, but that's this covid world we're living in. I didn't even have my phone to call my husband, but fortunately the nurse let me borrow his. We even had to coordinate my husband dropping off new clothes for me, since what I had been wearing was soiled. The nursing team handled that without any issues. By the time I left, I was able to walk on my own without assistance and without passing out. Of course, they always wheel you out regardless of how well you can walk on your own! At least in my experience. Thank you, Mount Carmel St. Ann's for taking such good care of me. Now if you could just link your charts!

The first night, when my obstruction was at its worst, even though the NG tube was inserted in the ER by about 10:00 pm, and I was admitted around 10:30, the suction pump ***was never attached or used until the next morning***. As a result, more than 1000 ml of bile and stomach acid was allowed to fill my stomach and put me into extreme pain and frankly, torture for the entire night. When it was finally hooked up for suction around 9:00 am the next, the canister filled to its maximum in less than two hours. Remarkably, again that night, the tube was not monitored at all by the assigned floor nurses, and allowed to move from the proper, previously x-rayed insertion point of 75 cm, to 16 cm, as confirmed on Weds by an RN again making it useless overnight, who again made insincere apologies. This was outrageous, especially under the circumstances. The RN who came in that morning said that was obviously the reason that there was less than 100 ML in the canister, and that not only would it had to be re-inserted, but also X-rayed again, and process that took at least another three hours--again, during which I had no relief from pain and nausea, and during which bile and stomach acid accumulated in my stomach. In any event, I was so concerned about the substandard and unsafe "care" I was receiving, I experienced terrifying anxiety, and asked for and finally received Ativan, which I was given subsequently a few more times. This did help, although it didn't change the incompetent and unsafe nature of the "care" at Mt. Carmel. Eventually, I met with "Amanda," the hospital charge nurse, and asked her point blank why I was again--for the third time--subject to this kind of incompetence and callous treatment. In front of the hospitalist, my shift RN, and a rep from the pharmacy, she stared blankly at me and did not respond. I asked her why the nurses and the surgeon could not even agree how or if to stopper the NG tube at certain points, and told her that by day three, the tube had leaked enormous amounts of bile and acid onto my gown and all over my bed. I asked her why she was not personally involved and not holding all these nurses--who one way or another report to her--accountable for their lack of training in using something so basic; their refusal to monitor the tube to ensure it stayed properly inserted at the right place; and then, when the nurses had not done their job, why I still waited hours for the staff to rectify their mistakes and get the tube quickly re-instead and X-rayed with ANY sense of urgency. Once again, too, for the third inpatient stat at Mt. Carmel in a row, just getting an answer to the call bell was often impossible. Most times it was not even responded to within 30 minutes, and several times, much longer. Three times it was never responded to, and once, when the tube was already almost out, it began leaking and I had to BANG ON THE WINDOW AND YELL HELP at the top of my voice to get anyone to come because they were ignoring the bell. I also had to constantly chase down nurses to get my pain and nausea meds--which were ORDERED BY THE HOSPITALIST FOR FOUR HOUR INTERVALS. Not once were my meds brought on time and not once without my personal intervention. This is my second formal complaint to both the Joint Commission and the Ohio Board of Nursing, which ignored my previous complaint filed with that organization on December 17 of last year. I find this even more outrageous and negligent. I expect an immediate response to this complaint, and I expect to hear from you without delay. As a disabled veteran I am alerting the Veteran Community, who might have the misfortune to be admitted to Mt. Carmel Dublin Ohio, of the unsafe and incompetent they can expect in this hospital.
