I thought, 8 bucks for a ticket, no loss if the comedy isn't good. WELP. It was really good! We came on a Thursday night. The first half of the evening was improv put on by people who have been taking improv classes. They were so talented already and I laughed a lot. Then for the second half, people who are much more immersed in improv do a show. We were lucky enough to have the one and only Ryan Stiles join the group of the second half. What a treat. Once again there was a lot of laughter. They also have shows on the weekends! And they sell popcorn, candy, beer, cider, and pop for realistic prices, quite unlike the movie theater. They have shows on the weekends as well and you can buy tickets online. I highly recommend it!!

This one just felt amateur, and not in a good way. There were also no concessions (not even water!), which made for a long, parched evening. The improv "games" they were playing were anything from hard-to-follow to completely over my head. And yes, I've been to a lot of improv. I know improv can be hit and miss, but this was just a big, disappointing miss.

Sponsored by the Pickford Cinema and held about once-a-month during the summer, the Rooftop has been a family favorite event of ours for years. And it's only gotten better with time. They now have food vendors, a beer garden, and a HUGE blow-up screen - not to mention a great sound system. It's seriously THE place to see and be seen (and see a movie)! Bring yourself a chair, and a blanket 'cuz it does get a little breezy up there. We like to grab a pizza to go and eat it during the movie. Oh and parking is free too!

Food vendors, a beer garden, and a few organizations are set up. I'd recommend not coming at the start of this event. It's pretty boring as there aren't many people and not much seems to happen. Make.Shift is also home to "The Magic Van" a resource for bands looking to tour the PNW who lack access to a band van. This weekend they hosted a local craft fair where there was a button trade, multiple floors of local crafts, and I even picked up some vinyl. Additionally down in the lower level I found an alternative lending library (with zines of course) and some indie publications for sale. There was even an artisan guitar maker who took a break from his craft to talk about what he does. The whole experience was straight up cool. I will make sure to stop back in the next time I am in Bellingham and drop a few bucks in the donation jar because creative spaces like this enrich communities and support the arts for us all.

In fact, I'd say Downtown Sounds is the quintessential Bellingham experience. Held on multiple Wednesdays during the summer months, this free concert/street festival brings together the best our sweet city has to offer. And this year it got even better as the layout of the festival was flipped on its access, creating a larger beer garden (no more long lines!) with full view of the action on stage, plus a great food truck area with local yumminess like tacos, tamales, and ice cream.
