We Purchased a Hyundai i40 today for £14900, this includes £100 service fee for pre-check, minor paint touch ups, HPI certificate, vehicle service (if required), basically to ensure the vehicle is road worthy
Whilst our sales experience went very well (thanks Jack) when we went to collect the vehicle today we found the following faults on inspection:-
1) cap missing for the water filler under the bonnet
2) paint chip that was exposing the under body on front bumper was not touched up. We had informed the sales team of this verbally and by email when we test drove the vehicle, that this required fixing.
3) two wheel valve heads were missing
4) vehicle appeared dirty under the front bumper
For point 1 the collection team tried to fob us off and advised the water cap is not required.....dahhh. Thank goodness I am familiar with vehicles, else a novice would have taken such advice for granted and left the filler exposed to the elements. Then he took a filler from another vehicle which was too big.
This was then escalated to the general manager of the branch who shockingly said "it is a second hand car, like it or leave it". Effectively the GENERAL MANAGER of chingford branch of Motorpoint appears happy to sell vehicles that may not be fit for purpose just because they are second hand vehicles. Not great!! I think the GM requires a refresher course on the Sale Of Goods Act which requires the fit for purpose test for any goods sold in England.
In the end, one of sales team who also drives a Hyundai i40 donated his filler cap to our vehicle.
We were let down big time by the collection team and the General Managers response was deplorable. Also it made us feel we got nothing or little value for our £100 service fee.
Rest of the points were rectified whilst we waited on site although patch up paint job on the bumper was not great.
It has left the whole experience of buying a nearly new vehicle with a bitter after taste in your mouth! read more
