I went to Motive Auto Works 6 months ago to get my brake pads/rotors replaced. Alberto's team was very quick and efficient and got the job done.. with one caveat. They found a clip to hold in one of my brake pads was missing and I'd have to reschedule to get that part back in. So I rescheduled, and they charged me over $200 for this minor fix. I would have given these guys five stars for fixing up my brakes but what they did was sketchy and they definitely overcharged me for that minor fix, and I even question if they did that themselves. I probably won't be back and will be going to a different shop that specializes in Subarus, there are a ton around the area that will get the job done the first time and not overcharge their customers. read more

These guys did an awesome job. It wasn't necessarily cheap, but the pricing was fair and I think their work is top notch. I brought my '10 Subaru Forrester, which I had just purchased and was having poor gas mileage with. I had already brought the car to a local Subaru dealer for inspection and tune up, but they didn't fix the issue. A number of shops said that it probably wasn't even worth trying to fix. Rob diagnosed the issue to the spark-plugs and found some other problems that were worth fixing. The car is idling better, shifting smoother, and has much better millage. read more

This review is long overdue, but here goes. I normally do all of the work on my car 100% of the time due to two things, I don't trust anyone with my car and I take pride in doing the work. Having said that I have only taken my car to one shop which is where I live in Maryland. When I came to visit my parents in New Hampshire I heard a good bit about Motive Auto Works from multiple forums and thought I'd give them a try. I called the shop expecting to be put on hold like most busy shops and to my surprise I was instantly quoted for what I was inquiring for. I dropped the car off with all the parts that I thought were needed for the install and went back home. Alberto called me and notified me that additional parts were needed which was a first for me. I usually manage to always get all the parts needed for an install so that it's less of a headache when actually executing. I asked Alberto what the parts were and he said they were OEM parts, but I knew those parts weren't normally stocked since I used to work for Subaru. He went to the dealership himself (This is another big first for me) and tried to source the part for me. However, he had no luck with the part given the time frame (3 days). He meticulously searched online and studied the part needed and created his own! It's so refreshing to see that people can still persevere when given a roadblock. He didn't just say, "Hey, we can't find this part so looks like you'll have to come back when you have it, or looks like we can't do it". After making the part and buttoning it all back up together (which was so clean that it looked as if no one ever entered my car) I went to pick up the car with my wife. Upon arriving to the shop Alberto greeted me and we started talking about different vendors and parts. He also showed me around the shop and we generally had no problem having an honest conversation. When I went out to my car I noticed that what I wanted installed didn't perform the way I wanted it to perform (This is not a flaw of Alberto's, but more along the lines of custom work that was on top of already custom work since the necessary harnesses didn't exist). Alberto agreed and said that he wasn't sure exactly how he wanted it done since once it was modified, it could never go back. This is where I tell you what work I needed done: I bought the JDM Power Folding mirror assemblies with the JDM switch. I did not buy any wiring whatsoever. I wanted the mirror on the driver's side modified to check my blind spot since the JDM mirrors are RHD and not LHD. Alberto and I agreed that I should come in Monday of the next week (since it was Saturday) to have the work addressed at no extra charge. However, we both forgot that the shop would be closed since it was a Holiday and I was also going out of town for a few days. Alberto tried to run after me after I left the shop, but I didn't see him. He texted me before arriving to a restaurant with my wife and revealed the situation to me. He volunteered himself to do the work on my driveway if I left the keys with a neighbor. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY MECHANIC EVER DO THIS IN THE HISTORY OF MECHANICS. I was so shocked and ecstatic at the same time. All of this while he would be on vacation as well! I left the keys with a neighbor and Alberto arrived on the exact time he said he would and did the work in about 1-2 hours. He then gave the keys back to my neighbor and then went home. He texted me upon arrival to my house, upon finishing the modification including pictures of the work, and upon dropping the keys off to my neighbor. ALL OF THIS AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. I was utterly impressed to say the least. TL;DR Alberto and Motive Auto Works truly understand the meaning of customer service and what it is to own an honest shop. This shop makes me wish that I lived in NH or MA just because of how wonderful of an experience I had. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone who is even wondering in the least bit of where to take your car to have work done, stop wondering; go to Motive Auto Works as you will never be disappointed with the level of service you receive. I can't say enough good things about Alberto and Jason, and everything's likely to be a repeat of what has been said previously. Fortunately I discovered these guys on the forums 6 years ago when I first got my LGT. They work on my car as if it were their own, which is exactly what you want if you're a fellow car guy. They can handle everything from simple brake jobs to complete engine rebuilds. The quality is second to none and the pricing is fair. I have been meaning to write something here about Motive Auto Works for a long time. I first found Motive a few years back based upon the recommendation of an old friend who is a Subaru enthusiast when the turbocharger on my Outback XT suffered a catastrophic failure on the highway, destroying the engine. The service department at a local Subaru dealer said the engine could be repaired but their estimate was higher than the current value of the car. Ugh. After calling every reputable shop in the area, only Alberto, the owner of Motive, could figure out a way to get me back on the road at a price I could afford. Since then, I have been loyal to this shop for any and all work I need performed, and I have never looked back. As you might notice from some of the other reviews, Motive does a lot of mod work for gear heads who know their stuff and are really interested in turbocharged Subarus. But at the same time, Motive serves as a TREMENDOUS neighborhood shop for folks who just want to make sure they are getting quality work at a good price. I fit into this second category, and since the first day I spoke to Alberto on the telephone about my blown turbo . . . I have felt like I have a trusted friend who knows much more about cars than I do. Really. I will say that Motive is a smaller operation, so if you're a senior citizen who is used to plush waiting rooms with Keurig coffee at the dealership then you might be a little surprised at Motive when they walk you past their jobs in progress to the small waiting area in the back. But this is also what makes Motive so great, and (especially for someone bringing in an everyday car like me) I swear that you'll feel like you're hanging out with your mechanic friends who are doing you a favor by working on your car. And, from speaking to Alberto over the years, I am quite sure that this is his philosophy for the business: people will become loyal customers and help your reputation if you treat them right and save them money. I've been treated right and this shop has saved me money . . . so I am now a loyal customer and I tell everyone I know to take their work to Motive. Again, I couldn't possibly give a higher recommendation for Motive Auto Works. These are just great people who do business right! read more

After taking my car to Alberto for the second time in 2 months (two totally unrelated issues) I now have a new mechanic. Alberto is helpful, friendly and knowledgable. When parts were replaced during my first visit, he showed me the parts that were removed, which made me feel very good about the work that had just been done. If there is a way to save money without compromising quality or safety he lets me know. After getting a new battery today, he emailed me this evening and told me that he would apply the recycling refund that he will receive from my battery to my next visit. After years of taking my Subaru only to the dealer, and paying the dealership repair prices I am so happy to have found someone that is so trustworthy and fair. read more

I do most of my own auto maintenance and repair, and I generally don't like other people doing work on my car because I am very fussy about the work quality. Motive Auto Works, however, met all of my expectations. These guys rock! They are meticulous and capable mechanics who do what needs to be done and do it well. While I will continue to do much of my own work, I would not hesitate to use Motive again when I either run out of time or run into something beyond my shade tree mechanic capabilities. The work I had done was to replace the head gasket and clutch, and a few other misc. items, on a 2002 Forester. One nice touch, that may not mean much to most people, but that I liked, is that they mark, with a little dab of pink paint, the various nuts, bolts, and clamps that they work on. I've been coming here for more than 3 years to get regular maintenance on my Legacy GT Limited & they always take care of me. I don't go anywhere else. They've done my timing belt, clutch replacement, brakes, axles, plus all the regular maintenance & they do way way more stuff (engine rebuilds and tuning). Once at the the drop of a hat the day before a road trip they fit me in & took care of an issue I had been neglecting to get done just to take care of me. They love what they do & it shows. I had the pleasure of having my 2012 Subaru Impreza Sport Limited towed to Motive Auto Works after slamming a pothole and bending my driver side front - ti-rod. When I got to the shop I honestly did not know what to expect. My little mishap happened late in the day on a Thursday when most other shops were already closed...Jason stayed open for me, put my car up on the lift and diagnosed the issue...even called his parts guy just to see if he could get my part in the next day.....needless to say..the part came in, the car was fixed and I was super happy....I cannot say enough about the customer service and friendly approach this shop and its owner have to its customers...I am telling everyone that I know who has a Subaru that they have to take their car here if they ever need any work done....By far one of the best experiences I have had with a Auto repair EVER!!!...Jason, it was a pleasure meeting you...thank you again for taking care of me and my car! read more

I've known Alberto for quite a while and have been going to his shop for service for many years. I remember visiting him when he was working out of his home garage and now he has a full blown professional shop with a waiting room. His knowledge of mechanical items is superior, he is friendly and professional, and vouches for the customer. Subarus are his speciality but that doesnt mean he cant work on other makes and models. I've seen many bmw's through the shop and he makes sure he does every job to the very last nut and bolt and does not cut corners. If he doesn't know much about a particular repair, he has many dealer connections to get what he needs(whether its info or parts). From basic repairs with factory parts to full performance engine builds making 500hp+ he'll get it done and will keep in touch. He will not proceed with a repair unless everything works and fits perfect, no half-assing here. I will continue to go to Berto for all my needs! read more

A few years ago, the shop that I frequented for many years closed. I tried a few other shops who specialized in performance cars with lackluster results, particularly when I had small jobs that needed doing. After reading some reviews on Yelp and NASIOC, I decided to give Alberto a shot when my radiator went on my 2002 WRX - and have not looked back since. I have used Alberto for all of my work including small jobs (standard service) and big ones, 90K, timing belt, springs, shocks, etc. - and he has always been a pleasure to deal with. He knows his stuff, does great work at a fair price, and always takes the time to walk me through my options and make a recommendation. One thing I really respect is that he knows my driving habits, and will suggest an approach that makes the most sense for me, and not necessarily the most expensive one.
