Details for my two experiences: - The first time was when my son was 11 days old. He wouldn't latch during breastfeeding, and Jen taught me how to properly latch, and how to observe his suckle & swallow ratio. She also helped me with selecting pumping flanges. - The second time I called her was a different issue. Little one likes to be breastfed but just wouldn't take a bottle. Only 0.5 to 2 oz per feed. We tried everything we can for a month but in vain. Like last time, Jennifer came to our house, and viola, my son took a full 4oz under her guidance! That's never happened before! Informative, empowering, respectful, approachable, individual, caring, encouraging. But, at this point I've had my baby. I had a natural (no epi, no pitosin, etc..) birth at a major hospital. It was an amazing experience (seriously) and I owe that in large part to Zina's teaching and guidance. This is how Zina's classes helped: 1. My husband and I had learned what was happening at different stages of the birth process, and could make informed decisions once we got to the hospital, we didn't feel like we were being told what to do and instead were an active part of the decision-making process. 2. I felt confident and excited, instead of apprehensive and scared (if left to my own devices, I'd just feel scared). This made such a difference. 3. Probably the biggest difference was that when the time came, my husband and I were a team. It's natural for a partner to want to help, but oftentimes it's hard to know how, especially with how birth is portrayed in movies.
