The recession has struck everyone, and it's nice to see that La Sapinière has tried to adapt: they 3 course table d'hôte is a couple dollars short of $40, the 5-course meal being under $60, an absolute steal (as everything used to be over $80 a couple of years back). Thankfully, they haven't sacrificed quality in any way. The decor is cozy and warm, the hotel was built in the 60s and it still has that slightly retro flavour (carpeted floors, big leather chairs, swiss-chalet style).They try to cater to all sorts of clientele,but I'd say this isn't the most kid-friendly hotel. The bar really stylish and right next to a mahogany pool table and an intimate dance floor. If you feel extra fancy, you can rent you own little bungalow outside the hotel! I was excited they had waffles though slightly disappointed at the rubbery texture. They were missing the outside crunch and the inside fluffiness. I was grateful there was syrup and butter which helped augment the flavour. My biggest complaint is the plastic cutlery and polystyrene plates that were used. I wish big hotel chains would use something more environmentally friendly. Other than that, we had a great time with friends after being stranded in the winter by the highway. When we rode in with our family after biking, the staff were not very welcoming and, in fact, made us feel like we were imposing on them. Hard to exactly say what it was, but we found that we always felt that we were doing something wrong...not a fond feeling when traveling! The inn is about 1 km SE of the center of Val-David on Lac Dore, a small, quiet lake (no power boats). The inn has a private swim beach, dock, and platform. The inn is easily accessible from the rail trail, though not obvious. We arrived in the afternoon and were given rooms in an annex building across a quiet street. Our rooms had therapeutic baths, rather than showers, so we asked to be moved to rooms with showers, and they seemed happy to switch us. Since we were across the street, our rooms did not have a view of the lake, but the rooms were comfortable, air conditioned, and nicely furnished, if somewhat oddly arranged. The beds were very comfortable. We seemed to be the only occupants in the annex, and the doors of the unoccupied rooms were left standing open, so we walked around and looked into some of the rooms. Some of those bedrooms were truly luxurious! But those rooms had the therapeutic baths, not showers. The inn provided secure storage for our bikes in a separate building. It was a fairly hot day for Quebec, so we spent some time swimming in the lake before dinner. Just lovely. Kayaks and paddleboards were also available at the beach. Dinner was outstanding, and the service was excellent. The tables look out over the lake, a lovely setting. Apparently, breakfast is normally served starting at 9 am, but we asked if we could have breakfast at 8 am, to get an earlier start biking. Again, the staff seemed happy to accommodate us, and we were served breakfast at 8 am. Breakfast was also excellent. Definitely staying here again next time we are in the area. Note: All of the rooms at this inn are apparently different. What's more is that the entrance is up a pretty steep hill. It was so slippery our car couldn't get up so we had to park in the lot at the bottom of the hill and walk up with our bags. OIE. We were pretty upset upon arrival after having almost fallen and broken our necks 10 times on the way up. The story was: their contractor who applies the rocks & sand was called hours ago and they had no idea where he was. Be it true, that was extremely dangerous for us. They should be more diligent with that hill or they may run into legal problems. Having said that, you may wonder why I've given this place a 4 star ? The icy welcome aside, we had a great time. 8 outdoor Jacuzzis, 1 indoor pool, 1 indoor hot tub (with jets), 1 steam room, and massage services. It is ultimate relaxation. The restaurant is in the hotel, right by the spa and it was excellent. Facilities are very clean. The outdoor Jacuzzis are too cool! The room we had was cozy but quite small. Our room had a King sized bed, it was very comfortable. The owner told us they will be upgrading the rooms soon. We received $35 off our next stay anytime... even high season. We will definitely be going back!

The place needs major renos.There was no breakfast either. It would've helped. The closest small grocery store is a 10 minute walk and there's a Tim Hortons, about a 15 minute walk. The motel is on a highway, so not much around. Maybe a couple restaurants open later in the day. Typo-the room is very outdated. I haven't been there for a while so maybe it's improved. I can't understand why that room had European furniture in the Laurentians. The new owners aren't European either. It's the only room like that. Oddball place.

The service and owners are friendly, kind and very srvice-oriented The food at the restaurant lezvos, which is inside the auberge, is just to die for. The cuisine is so fresh, simple and taste great! They even have multple locations; one is montreal and another is st-sauveur. I would recommend this auberge to anyone looking for a getaway from th city. The views are incredible and many things to do around the area!
