I am taking care of an hospice person and I was totally exhausted when the kids tried to go swimming and told me this so I couldn't come back down now. The manager is putting it on me. The front desk was not managed 24/7 as expected, and pet policy (which have learned is different…read morefor each Hampton) was not transparent nor did front desk provide information about pets upon check-in. This establishment is not pet-friendly as advertised: (1) was charged twice for the pet (1 small dog) fee (billing has reviewed the receipt and is working on the correction/refund). Got yelled at by restaurant staff (Y****da) in front of other guests for bringing the10-12 pound dog on a leash into the area for breakfast (the previous Hampton stayed at allowed a dog on a leash in he area to get a plate of food) and she loudly and openly accused us of lying while near the food when we replied we never saw the sign prohibiting this action. A lot of things went wrong at this establishment; can't recommend it to others. Y should not have yelled and also her body language (hand on one hip, then arms crossed, then hand on the hip again) screamed out disrespect and anger; instead, she chose to not be polite, explain the situation quietly and respectfully. She was quite awful. Further, because of this incident, we wanted to check out as fast as possible, however, no one was at the front desk (nor available by calling from the room's phone), even though later they claimed they were there the whole time. Had to leave the keys in the room. With all this going on, there is no way anyone would have felt welcome.

The lobby is large with area to sit as well as fish tank and snacks available for purchase. The room was clean with modern furnishings (sans the old microwave lol but if it ain't broke why replace it?) with everything in good repair. We felt quite comfortable. The A/C unit is very powerful and effective. The beds are wonderfully cushioning and I fell asleep easily and awoke well rested! The shower has two knobs and confused me at first but will deliver soothing hot water with an easy-going flow. The toilet paper was cheap and awful but LOL. We did notice a weird smell by the sink but it didn't permeate the room so it didn't bug us too much. Considering this was the only thing wrong with the place, we felt lucky after a string of very hit-or-miss other motels along our route. This location is near the freeway but thankfully the noise isn't too disturbing. There's a lovely pool in the back which we unfortunately didn't have time to check out. However there was an amazing continental breakfast downstairs, with waffle makers, mini muffins, cereal, yogurt, and Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches. Such delight! We'd forgotten this simple pleasure while so many motels are still using COVID as an excuse to not provide this once expected service.

The room looked ok, but as soon as I sat in the chair I noticed it felt damp. Same with the bed. In the morning I walked barefoot to the sink and the floor felt wet. It caused it to smell extremely musty, too. Breakfast is in a separate building. The staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was pretty good. Only two stars, though. That musty smell and dampness was no bueno.

We also wanted some semblance of breakfast to get us started on another day of driving. Pros: air conditioner worked great, room was clean, beds were comfortable, and for those interested-there was a fridge and microwave in room, and a (small) outdoor pool that was clean Cons: The bathtub needed to be resurfaced and was generally nasty enough that we skipped showering. (Sorry world!) The place had a big sign that read 'deluxe breakfast' and the guy told my husband they had hot sausage biscuits, juice, muffins, cereal and more. Well, if what they tried to pass off as breakfast was deluxe, I would HATE to see what an economy breakfast might be - no sausage biscuits, no juice, bad coffee, one blueberry muffin (small commercial package, FYI) and stale cheerios and corn flakes. No one was there to ask for anything. We left having had a good night's sleep but with a lingering sense of dissatisfaction with our overall expectations. This was sub par to our usual experience of an overnight hotel, so two stars it is.

After checking in (and in all fairness the night manager was as nice as could be, but it was all downhill from there) the first sight I saw upon locating the room was a very sketchy looking gentleman coming out of a nearby room. I hope he was delivering a pizza, but his car didn't indicate that was a possibility so I fear something nefarious was underway. Moving on, upon entering the room, I had to search for a light that worked as all the wall fixtures failed to turn on. Fortunately the bathroom light worked, but in hindsight I wish it hadn't given the large amount of water damage visible in the ceiling tiles. After that, I retreated to the car to bring in some bags & while doing so, a creepy old man staying in the room next door decided to have a peak out the window to see what was going on. Except he did so without bothering to put any clothes on, thus exposing me to the full monty. I know Hope is the birthplace of Bill Clinton, but I didn't need to see the other guests doing their best impression of him. Some other nuggets from the room: the fridge didn't work, the toilet wouldn't stop running & the sheets were a little dirty. Overall, I'd say you'll be much better off skipping the Relax Inn & paying for a better hotel if you need to stay in Hope. Otherwise, if you like an adventure & have a tetanus shot...take your chances, but you've been warned.
