Cat surrounded by books
Paulina R.

Such a cool bookstore, and really well priced books! They have cats guarding the books, so make sure to pet them for their service. Visit them next time you are on south street!

This quaint bookstore is incredible. By quaint, I mean a three-story bookstore with every genre you can think of. I've found a lot of great, classic books here for such great prices. The lady that works (maybe the owner?) there is incredible and so friendly. I guess my only complaint would be that they don't have a database of books, so it's harder to keep track of what they do/don't have. Other than that, I highly recommend this bookstore if you are looking to pick up a good read for a great price.

I absolutely adore Mostly Books. I had walked by hundreds of times without ever realizing what it was, until a friend brought it to my attention. I love bookstores but don't love the prices of in person book shopping. Mostly Books is a) better for the environment, b) a more interesting and fun experience, and c) cheaper than buying books pretty much anywhere else. I have had rather odd and unpleasant interactions with the staff, however. I won't take off a star because to be honest it won't stop me from returning

Such a cute little store! It is actually not little at all though. It seems like this place could be a maze that keeps going. We biked by here today and was immediately intrigued. We parked our bikes and went inside. At first it looks like just a garage but as you go towards the back you realize it's a house of two of rooms filled with books! The books here are in really good condition and for really good prices. My brother bought a comic book/newspaper for just $0.85! We didn't get to stay long but I will definitely be coming back to check out the whole store. Not at night though.. I feel like things could popup anywhere and my brother said one of the room has creaking floors as you step!

We came across this bookstore during a casual stroll, and it totally took us by surprise! It seems quite modest from the outside, but don't let that fool you! You could spend hours in this labyrinth (which we did) and still not even scratch the surface. Thankfully, everything is organized by genre and mostly in alphabetical order by author's last name. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but it was nice to see all that they have to offer- from the classics to very unique titles. I am a big reader, and saw quite a few selections from my TBR list, but I usually borrow from the library. I did pick up a few titles that are not in the library catalog, and the prices were very reasonable. I can't wait to come back and explore again!

I knew as soon as I wandered into this place that I was going to love it. It's tucked away in Queen Village near South Street, and doesn't look like much from the outside. But do not walk by without stopping in! There are books stacked from nearly floor to ceiling in this store that looks deceptively small. It's actually HUGE!!! It extends for rooms and rooms, seeming to never end! Books are organized by category and (sometimes) by author, ranging from History to Classics to Fiction to Science and much, much more. If you're willing to dig in a little, this is certainly a place you could get lost in for a while! Prices vary significantly depending on the book. Most are extremely reasonable, but some rare / higher value books may run you a bit more. Definitely don't miss this cute find while in Philadelphia. Just give yourself some time, you may be there for a while!!

Ask the Community - Mostly Books

Are book donations accepted if they're in milk crates? Also, what genres of books aren't taken?

I guess book crates would be ok. How many do you have? We accept all kinds of genres, but the criteria has to do more with how desirable they are within a genre, and if we already have too many of one title. Also, if they were stored in a basement… Read more

Do they accept discover?

yes.

Can I sell used books here?

I stopped in for their…read moreFourth Friday art gala which featured the art of Larry West (quite possibly the only person with a mohawk to ever run for mayor), and as I walked in I instantly realized how much better the new location suits them. Space was a serious issue for their old location because it seriously felt like the aisles where sandwiching you in after awhile, and they rarely had enough room to show off their clothing, books, and other items. But the new location is at least twice the size and gives them the much needed space to sell the other items. and as Fourth Friday revealed it gave them the chance to do a lot more like showcase art and bands. if your not into goth/industrial music (I'm recovering from it myself) then you're probably not going to be down with a good 75% of the merchandise. But they are well stocked with plenty of obscure 80's music (Remember "Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco? Apparently he has has 8-10 albums. who knew?). And they have plenty of music by the likes of Bjork, Patti Smith, and Ladytron to go through. And it's a great spot to go for random gifts like Star Trek Vinyl and Cthulu dolls. So while it might not be for everybody, Digital Ferret does have enough to make it great.

You'll find things separated by genre upstairs and a lot of great suggestions for local authors and new reads downstairs. Great ideas for gifts, a lot of hyper-local reads and trinkets, and just a great way to expand your mind for an afternoon. I like getting a beverage, walking around, and reading backs of books to add to my list. I typically prefer to buy from small, local bookshops, but when I know I need something specific (in this case, a smutty beach read and the new Sally Rooney), I tend to gravitate here for ease. That being said, they didn't have the exact smutty beach read I was looking for! I know Emily Henry is Emily Henry and it's spring break season but...come on. We must keep her stocked for the girlies! Overall, a great option for killing time in center city and refilling your literary cup with inspiration. Happy reading!
