I was referred to Michael Overmann by a friend of my Mother's after my Father passed unexpectedly. He had no written will, therefore we needed to open a probate account to manage & distribute his assets. We also needed to appoint an administrator of the estate, which ended up being me. Upon reaching out to Michael, he was very responsive and gave us the base amount of information that we needed to get started, but that's about where it starts and ends. My family and I were VERY clear from the start that we knew little to nothing about this process, and would need to be walked through step-by-step, which we were assured by Michael that this would happen. Any time that I called (and he actually picked up), we were rushed off the phone without clear answers, AND THEN subsequently charged for the call on our final ledger. After the initial opening of probate, we went legitimately several months, after attempting to reach his office to close the account, without hearing back. It took me writing an email through his free consultation form on his website to get a message back. Along with the above issues, there were 2-3 instances where he either sent mail to a wrong address, or failed to make corrections to addresses, thus delaying court dates. We were not charged for the extensions thankfully, but due to my aforementioned lack of experience in this area, this created a lot more unnecessary stress on my end. I didn't even hear from him once the probate account was open. I had to search on the court records page myself to find out - the same situation occurred closing the account, even after I requested to be informed of these changes. I don't know if it was just because he knew that we were blindly going to pay him anyways, or that my Father's estate wasn't very big, but throughout the entire process, Michael and his office could not have been more apathetic towards my family and our needs, during what has been clearly an emotionally draining time in our lives. Again, I do not condone ruining business' ratings on Google/Yelp/etc, but I feel that my experience with Michael Overmann warranted this 1 star review. DO NOT hire Overmann Law to handle your estate or probate account. He may be better in other areas, or if you are richer than my family, but his work is not up to par compared to other *honest* lawyers that I could have given my money to.

I could never refer them to anyone. The definition of a two faced attorney. $75 doesn't mean anything to her with her fancy clothes and house, but blue collar people like us can't afford to work paycheck to paycheck and have someone pull a scam like this. I don't know why it was necessary, if she got a little laugh at our expense, or if she is just that cold hearted, but I often wonder how people like that sleep at night or look in the mirror.

We had to work around to negotiate because all we got back from the "attorney" was NO. NO to everything almost killed the deal multiple times. Until the end when we found out that the sellers had a lien on their house. Debbie lied and legally signed off that there wasn't a lien. The house was not able to close because of the lien and my family is homeless. We found out the day of. No explanation, no apology, no empathy. Unfortunately when there is not an attorney working on your close things get missed. So hire an attorney. Not Debbie the paper pusher. I have other words for her but I will keep them to myself. My former attorney received payment for services that were not performed well. The last 4 times the case was heard, I never received an update. My case somehow fell off the docket and my attorney did absolutely nothing to get it back on after several conversations. This went on so long that my court appointed GAL tried to refund me because the case had received no follow up. Meanwhile, when I spoke to my attorney again, she blatantly asked me "Do you want to argue about what hasn't been done, or get to work?" I still had hope and was trying to make this happen a second time around. I guess I should've known better when she almost settled my first case for child support WITHOUT my consultation or permission. We had several continuances prior to that. I had no idea this was occurring, because communication was vague and I was told she would handle it when they did finally speak to me. I got notice directly from court this time stating if I didn't appear for the next hearing, they would automatically rule in favor of mom. After she commeneced going back and forth with mom and the state of IL., she told me what she was asking them to settle for (I never asked her to do that, neither was I advised of this plan prior to it happening). The only reason I was able to ascertain what was transpiring is because mom would not agree to the terms. I then was able to advocate through her but for myself meaning, even though she agreed the amount I was being sued for, I had to ask WHY did I need to pay ANYTHING seeing that I had proof of payment (this was submitted to the judge AND the state prior to hiring her, and then my attorney as well upon retaining her.) going all the way back to the childs D.O.B. The one thing she did do right was successfully advocate for mom to pay half of the fees since she lied and I'm in this jam because she wouldn't hold to her agreement. Since then, I've filed for a cease and desist of legal representation of any kind from Urban & Burt Ltd. I've requested documents via email, and no one has returned my calls or request. As if that's not enough, I was charge again for filing an appearance motion that she offered to do in front of the judge out of "kindness" after the judge discharged her from this case and also charged me to withdraw from the case. I started not to write this review, because in a different setting, I think I could have respected her as a person. I think she does have wisdom at times, however, she didn't perform her due diligence. Since, I've consulted several other attorneys, and they all said the same thing. After looking at the case notes, they feel I was misrepresented. The problem is I went all in to make sure my daughter has a father in her life, so I didn't mind paying, but I'm broke now. I've literally had to choose between paying my assessments for my home or paying Urban & Burt some times (guess who won). I tried to space out payments when I saw no work being done in hopes of motivating them to do something. Nothing happened with that either. This is really stressful and disheartening. I pray you guys don't get this back. I'm walking away hurt and upset but it's all love. Here's to wishing you the best. M.W.
