Hello my divorce well over 30 years ago was handled but John C and he was amazing but now il retiring and the union need the exact divorce date.... We don't remember nor do either one of us have the papers. I sent to the state of Illinois for a copy they told me there is nothing. I've been married 2 times since then so ya that's not good news. I only hit one star because you can't post without it. Use this firm at your own risk. My case is still in court. My former attorney received payment for services that were not performed well. The last 4 times the case was heard, I never received an update. My case somehow fell off the docket and my attorney did absolutely nothing to get it back on after several conversations. This went on so long that my court appointed GAL tried to refund me because the case had received no follow up. Meanwhile, when I spoke to my attorney again, she blatantly asked me "Do you want to argue about what hasn't been done, or get to work?" I still had hope and was trying to make this happen a second time around. I guess I should've known better when she almost settled my first case for child support WITHOUT my consultation or permission. We had several continuances prior to that. I had no idea this was occurring, because communication was vague and I was told she would handle it when they did finally speak to me. I got notice directly from court this time stating if I didn't appear for the next hearing, they would automatically rule in favor of mom. After she commeneced going back and forth with mom and the state of IL., she told me what she was asking them to settle for (I never asked her to do that, neither was I advised of this plan prior to it happening). The only reason I was able to ascertain what was transpiring is because mom would not agree to the terms. I then was able to advocate through her but for myself meaning, even though she agreed the amount I was being sued for, I had to ask WHY did I need to pay ANYTHING seeing that I had proof of payment (this was submitted to the judge AND the state prior to hiring her, and then my attorney as well upon retaining her.) going all the way back to the childs D.O.B. The one thing she did do right was successfully advocate for mom to pay half of the fees since she lied and I'm in this jam because she wouldn't hold to her agreement. Since then, I've filed for a cease and desist of legal representation of any kind from Urban & Burt Ltd. I've requested documents via email, and no one has returned my calls or request. As if that's not enough, I was charge again for filing an appearance motion that she offered to do in front of the judge out of "kindness" after the judge discharged her from this case and also charged me to withdraw from the case. I started not to write this review, because in a different setting, I think I could have respected her as a person. I think she does have wisdom at times, however, she didn't perform her due diligence. Since, I've consulted several other attorneys, and they all said the same thing. After looking at the case notes, they feel I was misrepresented. The problem is I went all in to make sure my daughter has a father in her life, so I didn't mind paying, but I'm broke now. I've literally had to choose between paying my assessments for my home or paying Urban & Burt some times (guess who won). I tried to space out payments when I saw no work being done in hopes of motivating them to do something. Nothing happened with that either. This is really stressful and disheartening. Our real estate attorney, Dale Hauser from Urban & Burt was very professional and on-the-ball with every bit of our real estate sale. We always heard from him before our realtor regarding any updates. If it weren't for him, I'm afraid things would have gone very badly. At closing, Dale Hauser came through for us as the Z-Team realtor team didn't even bother to show up or even call to give instructions/directions on their part of the closing process. Our attorney had to call them and their response was to just put the check in the mail. If we could have chosen who received the commission from the sale of our house, it would have gone to our real estate attorney as he did all of the work. Although my divorce was finalized many, many years ago, I have to chime in with Jennifer C. & Emmanuel B.: AVOID THIS FIRM at all costs. The attorney I used, Cheryl Zeleznak, was nice enough but absolutely took me to the cleaners. Her estimated cost? Yeah, it was SO very off. I wound up spending way more than the "approximate cost", and while I was moderately satisfied with the settlement as decreed by the divorce, I felt like she was a little too...apathetic, perhaps? Additionally, my "clear cut" divorce (I didn't want the house, we had no children together, etc.) took for-ev-er. In short, all the money I had managed to save over the years? Zapped. I would give this firm NO or negative stars if I could. I think that the closing statement of the last reviewer was pretty spot on. "If you want a lawyer who will work for their own benefit, here is a firm for you. If you want a lawyer who will work for you, look elsewhere." In short my experience was with Atty Patrick Shifley who mislead both myself and my now ex-husband. Urban and Burt took thousands of dollars from us, which we paid them to help protect us and our property in a bankruptcy case, except they never did what they were supposed to or what they said they were going to do, they gave us misinformation that cost us dearly and they didn't even have the courtesy of returning numerous phone calls marked urgent. Of course these crooks already had our hard earned dollars and by then there was nothing we could do. I feel it necessary to share my less than favorable experience with attorney Cheryl Zeleznak attorney @ Urban & Burt. I have to agree with Courtney, David O and others review of their experience with this firm. The initial experience and cost explained to me was not entirely how my divorce was handled. Instead my now ex-husband decided to represent himself which warranted additional time to comply with requirements clearly stated in documents. While I understand the leniency for a pro-se respondent I did not understand the court not being made aware of the constant missed deadlines from my now ex, miss-placed and/or omitted revisions from documentation updates, and numerous discussions on direction that I communicated consistently from the onset of my divorce matter. Please consider other firms and attorney for divorce matters. My divorce matter ended up costing thousands of dollars which could have been minimized if key facts leading up to the delays were raised especially considering my now ex and I had and still have an amicable relationship. *Oak Forest, IL read more

My daughters ex was not complying with what he agreed to in their divorce. I supplied her with the money to take him back to court. The time spent with meeting with the attorney, preparing the documents for court, the frustration, the traveling to and from downtown, the thousands of dollars in fees have all been a terrible waste of time and money. It was agreed that he would start making monthly payments until the debt was paid. To this date she has not received a single payment. She contacted them months ago and I sent an unanswered email a month ago. Nothing but a waste of time and money. I sought help with the Grandparents Law as I was denied visitation, by my daughter, to see my grand-kids. There was NO good reason for that denial at all. I went to Urban Law office on 10-07-13 and spoke with Attorney Cheryl about this. She initally said they could send my daughter a letter outlining the Law and took my $150.00 retainer fee. When the letter had STILL not been sent by 10/25, I called the office. I was told Cheryl wanted me to make an appt to see her on Monday, 10-28. I knew immediately that she had decided against sending the letter! I WAS STUNNED !! Even though Cheryl HAD composed the letter to mail, she refused to do so. Her reasoning was "it might slam the door shut for good" on my relationship with my daughter and grand-kids. I told her that decision was up to ME....not herl! As my attorney, she was SUPPOSE TO BE IMPARTIAL. Apparently, she could not be. She did give me back the $150 and spent most of that office visit, telling me about her Mother and Father while I had tears in my eyes because she refused to help me! After reading the comments here about URBAN, and my own personal experience there, I am stunned that they are still in business. This whole thing has been traumatic for me!!
