The flavors went well together, but the meat was dry and the corn tortillas were not heated on a grill. The tortillas fell apart pretty much immediately so he was left eating tacos with a fork. I ordered the vegetable burrito and again, it was very over cooked and pretty flavorless to add. The beans seemed like they'd been cooking for days and had been burnt. Too much rice and too little flavor. We also got the nachos to see what they were like and it was just laughable. It was room temperature ballpark nacho cheese (runny, unnatural, yellow stuff) on top of store bought tortilla chips. The toppings were sparse and you only got about 1/2 a basket eaten before your chips were completely dry. Cold nachos? I could not understand. The redeeming traits were a nice interior and a very tasty yet tiny margarita. For the €30 that we spent at BurritoRico, I would rather stay home and make Mexican food with actual flavor.

It was mostly shredded iceberg lettuce. It had some chicken, peppers and a few pieces of corn and pinto beans. Very ordinary but edible. My wife ordered tacos. Four of the smallest tacos I have seen were smothered with diced onions. She was also less than impressed. Casita Mexicana is just another average restaurant that tries their best, but just serves the typical "Euro-Mex" food. It just isn't the same as good Mexican food from the Southwestern U.S. (Or Mexico, of course). There were only two other couples in the restaurant, yet the girl sat us in the back, right next to the toilet. Didn't realize it until I was eating and started smelling it. We really miss Mexican food being that we're from California and you can tell by the dishes that this is true Mexican cuisine. The owners are from Mexico and if you want to level up your spice to your dish they have other spicer sauces like habanero which is difficult to find in Germany. They decorated really well and have huge painted murals and have Spanish music playing while dining, we will absolutely return the next time we're in Köln.

I ordered a burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, corn salsa, pico, barbacoa, sour cream, and cheese. Plus a side of tortilla chips. Pricey, but dang. So, so good. Worth it. Here, you will not get the whole variety of the Mexican kitchen either. But, you'll be served authentic, real tasty snacks and bar food (tacos, quesadillas, burritos etc.) of superb quality. The typical Tex-Mex cumin taste is barely noticeable, which I prefer. All other ingredients are fresh, well balanced and dips are homemade. Spices are used up to a point where you can still enjoy the original flavor with a scent of sweat on your forehead, but without ruining your taste buds. And, not to forget: this is a Mexican bar! So, there is a solid selection of Mexican and Spanish beers (including non-alcoholic beers) as well as a whole variety of different tequilas (no non-alcoholic ;) ). I know what you are thinking: "Mexican food in Germany...come on", but this was delicious Mexican food. The staff spoke some English and our waitress, Nina, was delightful! We got chicken, beef, and shrimp enchiladas along with a steak quesadilla and fajitas. Each enchilada had unique fillings such as carrots, beans, spinach and all other kinds of yummy vegetables. Not your same old boring cheese and chicken enchiladas. Every meal included a salad and Mexican rice. We also ordered Mojitos that really put the meal over the top (happy hour from 1700-2000!! Half off cocktails!). If you are in Koblenz and are missing Mexican food or want some really good food, this is the place to go!

The ground beef had pleasant, although not spicy, flavors, and the avocado was more guacamole than avocado strips, which is what I expected from the description. The rice and beans were only slightly seasoned, but were an acceptable complement to the main part of the dish. Bear in mind that my idea of good Mexican involves a generous portion of chiles (preferably poblanos, jalapenos and/or chipotles) and cumin, so I was a bit underwhelmed by my meal at Maya. There's something about a rainy Sunday that just calls for Mexican food. We were too lazy to make the trek into Köln, so we decided to give CanCun Story a shot. It's conveniently located on the main street in the Poppeldorf area, an easy 15-minute stroll from Bonn city center, or even faster by bus. When we saw the menu, our hearts sank a bit: at least 2-3 pages had been ripped/cut out of all of the (very sticky) menus. Cheaper than reprinting, I guess, but it doesn't make a very good impression. Nor did the fact that the food took up only four pages, while the drinks pages (featuring Dan Akroyd holding a skull full of tequila!) rambled on for more than six. Places where alcohol trumps food always leave me a bit skeptical. Starving at this point, we decided to go for it and ordered nachos with 'various homemade dips' as a starter. The plate we were given was a mound of store-bought tortilla chips covered in burnt cheese. The 'salsa' tasted like ketchup mixed with a dab of Sriracha and the cook should've been fired on the spot for calling the green goo 'guacamole'. Fortunately, the sour cream was edible and masked the burnt cheese taste. We were pretty resigned to a horrible meal at this point, but decided to order a main course, anyway. Did I mention that we were starving?!?! So, at the advice of the waiter, I ordered the chicken burrito, while my husband settled on the 'virgin burger' (aka veggie burger). The plates came surprisingly fast, and looked pretty promising. My burrito was a flour tortilla, grilled panini-style, with a side salad and a mound of neon-yellow rice (with carrots and peas mixed in, of course). My husband's burger was not a tofu veggie patty, as written in the menu, but rather a mishmash of mushrooms, onions, peppers, and a few other unidentifiable vegetables. No tofu to be found. He also was served a large grilled corn-on-the cob, with herbed butter. Believe it or not, the burrito was good. Really good. Not in a Tex-Mex or even Mex-Mex way, but tasty mix of grilled chicken, onions, cheese(!), and peppers. The salad was also tasty, with a typical yogurt-style dressing. I stayed away from the rice, but my husband said it tasted a bit like saffron... or turmeric. He was also impressed with the burger. It wasn't really the consistency he expected, but he thought the flavors blended nicely, and weren't overwhelmed by the burger sauce you typically get in restaurants. The only downside was that he was pretty sure the vegetables had been grilled with or alongside my chicken, as they had a very 'meaty' flavor. Fortunately, he's a pretty forgiving vegetarian. The corn on the cob was also good, but it's pretty hard to have bad corn on the cob. :-) Overall, we thought the food was acceptable, but definitely had sticker shock when the total came to more than 40€!! That alone was enough for us to re-think another visit to CanCun story, given the overall experience. I think we'll be spending our money elsewhere next time...
