Keeping this in mind Humphrey's has created a nicely varied menu with eight options per course. All of them delicious ideas, which is not usually the case when looking for vegetarian options; I'm quite the picky eater sometimes. What's fantastic about this set-up is that the dishes on the menu are simple to assemble, but super yummy. And because you chose your entire menu before hand and the dishes do not require a lot of time to put together thanks to smart mise-en-place, you do not have to wait very long for your food! Anyway, we first came here after having climbed around all day for our six and a half year anniversary. We decided we would just drive in to Apeldoorn and have a look if there was somewhere we'd want to eat. The first restaurant we saw was Spicebrush with an okay menu, but not fantastic. The second place was Bogart's. Saw the menu and we were sold! First of all, I have to say that I LOVE how the first thing the servers do after you choose a table is bring you a breadboard with half a delicious loaf of bread, herbed butter and an adorable bottle of super yummy olive oil. All restaurants should do this. All. Of. Them. The bread is just enough to keep you going until your first course is brought to the table, very smart; no hungry, panic-y, grumpy customers, all because of some bread. So smart! Then our first course rolled in, le boyfriend had carpaccio and I had caprese salad. Let me be clear here, I think balsamic vinegar is disgusting and do not understand it's existence. Now I do. It was a lovely surprise finding some rocket (arugula) dressed in balsamic vinegar hiding under my tomatoes and mozzarella. Then our mains, le boyfriend had a mixed grill and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat he got. Also, he loves his steak super rare and had asked for it to be served as rare as humanly possible without having uncooked meat. The chef nailed it. The steak was rare and the pork and chicken were juicy. I had the cannelloni and loved every bite of it. The sides are also nice. The usual suspects: side salad, chips (with a lovely herb sprinkle) and a nice twist on the apple compote; apple-rhubarb compote. If you think that rhubarb is not for you, try this anyway, it was really good. As we were enjoying our dinner I had mentioned to le boyfriend that if they could pull off his chocolate fondant, they would have a five star rating in the pocket. It was fantastic. Absolutely Fantastic!!! Then we moved onto the Rump Steak with Frites (Dun gesneden rumpsteak van de houtskool BBQ, huisgemaakte frieten, seizoensgroenten en rodewijnsaus). The steak was excellent. Wonderfully tender with an outstanding sauce. To be totally honest though, the star of the meal though it was all perfect were the Frites. The absolute best frites I've had in all of Europe and the World. So crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Having the skin on set them so far above all the others with that added flavor I love from the skin. The meal is worth traveling 100 miles for. At every course and wine he took the time to talk to us and explain what we were having and some background information. We started off with bread, oil and tapenade of chickpeas and paprika. First course was an octopus terrine with some coquilles and shrimp, which was very good. For main course I had neck of lamb and my wife had the liver. The liver was fantastic. Very tender and succulent. The lamb was great too. The desserts were disappointing. My sweet rice was nice but not special and my wife's chocolate mousse and cake were too bitter for her taste. The wines were very good. I had a vino verde and a red douro. With dessert I had a very nice muscatel, not too sweet. I would give it 4 1/2 stars.

They served delicious little snack crackers with the tea. Often these are shrimp crackers that leave a taste in your mouth like you've licked an old sea net. These were fresh and crisp with a little bit of heat. Not too much, just a nice flavor. The Vegetable Egg Foo Yong was also delicious. It was clearly cooked fresh with delicate vegetables that didn't overwhelm the omelet. I've had it from one other Chinese restaurant in Zwolle and the one I had here was far superior. It is served here in Holland with sweet sauce. That's initially a shock but in this case, the sauce was subtle and complimentary to the dish versus the other place where the omelet was just drowning in sticky goo. The fried rice was very good as well. Once again, subtle flavors of green onion and egg in the veggie version I requested. Overall, great experience.
