Basically a despicable person (i'm not even able to call him a "Doctor") who is SO fake in his "concern" for you and money hungry beyond belief! Trust me as I have been using him for 20 plus years only because I needed him to order my yearly labwork referral for bloodwork in order to be able to get my Bio-identical hormones refilled (to his credit he knows how to do this hence the one star I give him). Bio-Identical compounded hormones are not covered by insurance nor does Dr. Dekel take insurance, so basically he's been charging more than a brain surgeon to order the same bloodwork script year after year. When I use to go to his office he was very high pressure to buy from his huge wall of supplements, much like a real aggressive snake oil salesman "type" if I had to describe it.
Luckily, some years ago he moved from my area and we simply did this over the phone. I was so glad not to have to sit with him in person listening to him trying to fill enough time in his office with this "concerned conversation" that just made me cringe it was so very obviously fake!
When he moved away and we did this by phone (so glad) he would always start with this "so tell me what's going on in your life BS" to drag out the time. It was so obvious he couldn't care less. Poor actor at best!
Shoot ahead, it's time to do the same yearly RX bloodwork which brings me to why I write this review. So now I'm 65 yrs. old and I have been paying him big bucks out of pocket (which he raises A LOT in price every single year) since I was about 49 years old. As usual his latest secretary spits out of the computer the same lab order to do again. Anyway, the bloodwork that HE ordered this time comes back showing alarming results for my Absolute Lymphocytes. They were VERY, VERY high at 7247 (normal range is 850-3900). I happened to be in with a Dermatologist a few days later (after still not hearing back from Dekel after calling about this) so figured I bring my results for my Dermo to see. He looked them over very carefully and looked at me and said "you need to see a Hematologist!" indicating something about ruling out Leukemia. I had left a voicemail for Dekel on his cell to PLEASE call me and told him I was super nervous about this alarming result on this test HE ordered! Dekel "texts" me back saying to please text him? OK, so I immediately text him and sent a screen shot of the result of the test he ordered (zoomed in on the numbers) and once again I asked him to PLEASE call me today about this result as I'm nervous! Then he text me back to call Dorothy his secretary. I explained to him I did that too (with no resonse from her either). I text him that I had our usual phone appointment set up but that wasn't for a for a week from now, but after getting such alarming results would really appreciate a call from him today! Then he texts me back to email Dorothy? The he texts me about how "busy Dorothy is and that SHE will get back to me as soon as she can, which will be much faster than any office I,ve I dealt with"?? What? He know's I want a call from HIM (my supposed Doctor) and is talking about speaking with his secretary (she is not a nurse)?
By the time Dekel called me a week later which was the appt. I made before even doing the bloodwork to get my new RX) I had already went to a GP who yes then sent me to a Hemotoligist who did further bloodwork and confirmed CLL (a type of Leukemia). At the minium Dekel could have shown a ounce more of his fake concern and just called me that night and tell me "yes these numbers are high" and tell me "yes you need to go see a Hematologist". When he finally calls me for our pre-set appt. a week later he opens with his uasual "so what's going on with your life?" BS. I told him (discusted) that I don't want to talk about my life and lets just get on with my new RX for my hormones. He never mentioned my blood results and when I did get a call from Dorothy it was for my new credit card information they needed. I was shocked when I was told $225 for exactly 15 minutes! That adds up to the rate of $900 an hour to simply renew my prescription! I will find somebody else to do this obviously going forward.
OH and the kicker was that years ago a relative told me (who knew him professionally from way back) that Dekel left being a gyno to turn his efforts into being a "holistic" gyno as it was more profitable for him to sell supplements and not take insurance. Yeah that sounds about right! read more
