Physical therapy told my husband and I that I would never walk again and stated that I really neededto be trained to live in a wheelchair. To make a long story Short, I am now an outpatient physical therapy. Though I spend time in a wheelchair, I am learning to walk and will be able to do so with a walker independently. Additionally, the medical Director came to my husband and I and told us that I was dying, and should be placed on hospice. that was two years ago. All of my doctors are completely confused as to why he would've came to that conclusion. When we refused hospice, and refused to accept that I could not be taught more independent living, they discharged me. The facility itself is beautiful. It is clean and well-managed. However, they did not provide what I needed from them. Have they done so, I believe that I would be further along than I am now. Again, the good news is that I am progressing dramatically at this point.

It was arranged for her to go to Lorien Mays Chapel. I am writing to tell you that Lorien Mays Chapel was very disappointing and that my mother dramatically deteriorated there. Although they say the right things and have a lot of staff with all sorts of titles, they are really not set up to manage elderly women with dementia. They put her on a vigorous regimen of PT and OT which wore her out and there appeared to be a complete disconnect between their administrative staff like the dietician and their floor staff. In fact, the latter were more concerned about their break times and getting food from the small luncheonette there than with my mother. Lorien Mays Chapel has a good reputation and I think that for relatively healthy young to middle aged men or women who just need a little PT or OT, it is probably fine. However, for older individuals who need more care and attention, in addition to PT and OT, Lorien is not the place to send them. Seeing my mother deteriorate so quickly at Lorien, we managed to get her out of there relatively quickly - weak, very disoriented, and on oxygen 24/7. After returning back to her assisted living facility where they are better setup for her issues, she is much stronger and active again.

The facility was clean, and the rehab people were great. The food service was abysmal. Meals delivered too late/ early, wrong, incomplete (Salad, no dressing or dressing, no salad), no drinks. When we tried to correct it with foodservice management, they blamed my wife for the issues. In spite of decent Physical Therapy, I signed my wife out early as I could not take the time from work to bring her three meals a day

My father received home hospice care through Stella Maris after being discharged from the hospital…read moreon a Thursday. We were told no nurse or social worker would be available until Monday. During those four days, my mother and I were responsible for all care, including repositioning him and managing his hygiene, despite being physically unable to safely turn him. Repeated calls to the nurse line did not result in meaningful support, and assistance only came after multiple escalations. When my father began actively dying, I contacted the hospice nurse for guidance as he appeared to be gasping for air and in a lot of pain. The nurse initially answered and disconnected the call. When I called back, I was told, "What do you want? I'm busy." When I asked about medication, I was told, "You can't kill him." We were given a medication kit but no written instructions, which made it extremely difficult to manage his symptoms with confidence during a highly stressful and emotional situation. Staff also made comments in front of my father about his impending death in a way that felt inconsistent with maintaining dignity, despite acknowledging that hearing is the last to go. When the nurse arrived after his passing, the first comment made upon entering our home was, "Are you happy now?" (I'm finally here) We were told bereavement support would be available, but no follow-up occurred, and we were unable to reach the social worker. My father chose this hospice in part for its Catholic affiliation, but despite multiple attempts, no priest came to provide last rites. We ultimately had to find one ourselves. This experience was extremely difficult for our family and did not reflect the level of support we expected during end-of-life care. If you want your family member to die with dignity and to be treated like a human being - do not use Stella Maris.

Type of care, Care quality and Office Experience HORRIBLE!! Unless you have the time to visit your…read moreloved one frequently, I would not recommend or entrust Towson Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for long term disability. 90 to 95% percent of the long term care residents do not have family members that come to visit with them. What this does is it allows the facility to get away with things like leaving the resident anywhere from 4 plus hours without being changed or checked on. I am specifically speaking about the long hallway long term care on the second floor. The resident's clothes and blankets come up missing once they are sent down to laundry never to be seen again. It also doesn't matter that the resident's name has been written or sewn onto the garments. The residents do not have gowns, wash cloths or towels the majority of the time. My family member was left to lay in a soiled gown for over 3 hours because the CNA/GNA'S said that there were no clean gowns available. I let them know that this was unacceptable and she promised to go to another floor and try and locate a clean gown. How can the nurses do their job if the facility does not provide the necessities that they need in order to care for the residents. The care is DISGRACEFUL on the second floor. The aides are working 13 residents to one aide. Call outs are a constant thing so the residents are the ones left to sit in their own urine and feces. The hallway reeks of feces and bad smells due to lack of resident care. The employment turn over rate is astronomically high. If you hire CNA'S AND GNA'S and they're walking off of the job within 2 weeks, something is wrong and this happens on a regular. Call outs are a constant. They're always short staffed and yet nothing is done about it. Whoever is doing the hiring needs to be replaced because clearly they lack good judgement. My love one has been there for some years and I have tried to transfer them to another facility but due to my family dynamics it has prevented me from making this happen, so I'm left to deal with the piss poor care that is given. I've had many meetings with the administrator Laverne about my loved one's care and incidents that have taken place but it's like everything else over there, they walk the narrow line and then things go back to the way they were. The facility reprimands the employees that actually care about the residents and care about the level of care that they give to them but yet the slackers get rewarded. Make it make sense because it sounds backwards to me. Towson Rehabilitation needs to shut down their long term care floor(s) and revamp it starting with management on down the line. The owners ought to be embarrassed and ashamed to say that they are owners of Towson Rehabilitation and Health Care. You can tell that they spend as less money as possible for the products and care that's needed for the residence in that facility. If your loved one is residing there for long term care, for God's sake PLEASE go and check on them! By all means necessary try and get them transferred to a different facility. It's all about a dollar over there and the owners make sure they cut corners and costs on EVERY level! God Bless the Residents.

incident# 1 my father got there on fri 2/7/25…read more he fell & busted the left front side of his head on sun 2/9/25 around 9pm (around his eyebrow) trying to go to the bathroom on his own. he had been pressing the button for a while for someone to come help him go to the bathroom. when someone finally came they told him stop pressing the button. they left so fast, he didnt get to tell them what he needed. they never even asked what he needed. he had to go to the hospital. he had to get the opening glued shut. he also had a swollen black eye. no one called from the facility to say that anything had happened. we only knew that something happened because a nurse called from the hospital. unacceptable !!!!!!!! i spoke with the director of nursing, believe it or not nothing happened to the parties involved. i was told that disciplinary action took place. when talking to her, she even stated that she doesnt trust some of the staff there. if that is the case, why are these people working there? she even stop responding to me when i asked about an incident report. incident #2 my father used the urinals sometimes to help him from falling. the urinals were rarely emptied and i found myself emptying them every time i visited. i spoke with the director about the issue. the issue was fixed for like a day and then it was back to them not being emptied again. my father had so many different incidents that has occurred since hes been at that facility. the rehabilitation area he was located in on the 1st fl, the rooms were shared by 2 people. the bathroom was shared by 4 people because it was connected to the room on the other side. the bathroom was rarely cleaned. most times i came to visit my dad, the bathroom smelled like urine. they have agency staff that work there, not staff employed by the facility. most of the people dont care about the patients. there were some good nurses (udi- "the nice nurse", my father calls her, very nice, apollo was cool as well) and techs/aides/gnas (carrie was great & kathy was great). a lot of the tech/aides/gna had bad attitudes. the therapists did the bare minimum with helping him. the speech therapist, they had great conversation, but she would tell him that he passed on certain things and my father said that he know he didnt. he wanted her to be honest, not just pass him. laverne, the administrator seemed very nice and understanding towards the end of his stay. i thought the director of nursing was the head person, but she is not. my only advice for people who have love ones or friends there, please check on them!!!!!!! they act totally different when your love ones are not around.
