However, those of us on a budget, but with still functioning tastebuds, can go to a wonderful little burger place in Sai Kung, that serves both regular Australian beef, and wagyu beef burgers, at a reasonable price. Two burger, fries, and three soft drinks only set us back HKD200.
Burger Deli is a small "hole in the wall" style cafe, which serves burgers, dogs, fries, onion rings, vanilla coke, root beer, etc. The sort of place that does blue collar American diner food. I describe it as a "hole in the wall", because there is no indoor seating, and the service counter is essentially the front of the shop, with seating on the outside terrace, under cover of an awning.
There is a lovely lady that serves behind the counter, and a chef flipping burgers to perfection. It's a very simple operation, which makes the service fast and courteous.
The burgers themselves are amazing. The patties are cooked only one way, medium, unless requested otherwise, and this is nestled in a soft toasted bun, with red onion, American cheese, bacon, toms, and lettuce. It is a simple but very effective burger build, due to the quality of the meat and the way it is grilled. The fries are tasty, but are the skin on things that you buy in the supermarket that seem to be popular all over HK.
It's a little off the beaten track, away from the seafront, so it is usually quite quiet during the week. At the weekends, however, it gets rammed, so plan your burger strategically, and try and slip in between the rush hours. It's such a perfect place to go for a fast feed when you have just got off a tour boat, without having to resort to the chain burger joints (and you know the ones I mean). I always go for the cheese burger with bacon - a classic, so you can't go too far wrong!
