You had me at "pickle." If you want a casual meal while taking a break from the casino or shopping, you can find sandwiches, salads and hearty sides at Morty's. Most of the restaurants inside the casinio will have "Las Vegas" prices. Morty's gives generous portions and uses quality ingredients and doesn't charge as much. Morty's accepts coupons and comps from your player's cards (Cheesecake factory only gives half credit and Bobby Flay's is considers "outside" of the casino so you can't use coupons or credits. I wanted to pick up a few items before heading back to our hotel. Morty's had a varied selection and a convenient to-go menu. The employee who took my order was nice. I spent $14.50 on a giant entree sized "side' of Mom's Mac & Cheese, potato salad, Western fries and two pickles. I was expected small, but satisfying containers similar to Guy Fieri's at Horseshoe casino. The portions were generous. The mac and cheese was rich and tasty. The potato salad wasn't quite as good as my Aunt Shirley's (that I was missing on Memorial Day) but quite tasty. The fries were great. I was expecting two small pickles. Instead, I received a giant container that had wonderful deli sliced pickles. We could have shared with 12 people (but I won't). The decor makes the place look like the food would be pretty authentic. Nothing like New York or Jewish style sandwiches. The menu is pretty limited - no kinishes, chopped liver, or really anything special. I ordered a sandwich that was supposed to have brisket and turkey. The brisket was weird, thin and bland and the turkey, like any basic deli meat. The worst part was the rye bread that lacked enough substance to provide anything but a soggy mess. Went to Maryland Live Casino. I'm not a gambler - I took a seat and watched him go from "table" to table. I was getting late. I couldn't keep my eyes open. I didn't want to tell him that I was ready to go. I was tired. I saw a guy walking around with a BIG COOKIE! I didn't want to ask him where he got it from (he had been trying to talk to me earlier). I decided to walk around for an adventure and find this enormous cookie. OMG! I found it - here at Morty's!! The cookie was warm, ginormous and delicious. Add a cup of hot coffee and I was bright eyed and bushy tailed and amped on caffeine. Being Jewish from Brooklyn, I had high expectations for this place. I was sadly disappointed. The quality of the food is not worth the high prices. The matzoh ball soup was $7.50 for one matzoh ball and a few noodles and a few pieces of chicken. It was pretty much a cup size. It was also very salty. The corned beef rueben was a nice size sandwich, but the corned beef was just ok. Pretty much like lunch meat. Price was $14. The fries were only $4 for a huge portion and can be shared. Unfortunately, they were seasoned fries. A real deli would sever nice steak fries unseasoned. So $25.50 plus a drink. You could split the sandwich and fries and walk away satisfied. Wanted some old school corn beef sandwich from back in the day when my parents would take us to Corn Beef Roe in east Baltimore and we would go to Jack's on Lumbard Street. If anybody remembers that place give me a Hell Ya! Anyway, I wanted some good corn beef and I had eaten here before. It was good so I went back again. I love the decor sort of an old-school, New York Deli. I notice that the prices here are higher but I am willing to pay more for a good sandwich if you know what I mean. What I noticed that the meat is already pre-sliced and warm in an oven. then served. Now I am not too happy with that because those not most ways I have had it in the past. Food here is delicious. Its like an upscale Potbelly's with many different side items. I came here during lunch and we decided to splurge. We ordered the Godfather, All in Club, side of onion rings, Western fries, Mac N Cheese, and Chicken Noodle soup. The sandwiches were great. You can tell they use high quality ingredients that haven't been refrigerated for centuries. Mac n cheese tasted like that made a fresh batch that day with the rich cheese. Was here on a Saturday night and my mom wanted a quick sandwich as she was playing on the slots.. line had 4 people in front of me and maybe 4-5 tables in the restaurant.. took 52 minutes from when order was taken to receiving it (a Reuben and a hot dog that I saw looked pretty good on the rollers). As I was waiting noticed there were no longer hot dogs on the rollers and saw one of the workers throw one in the deep fryer. As I received my order (again, 52 minutes in) I asked if hey normal deep fry their hot dogs. She looked like a kid with their hand caught in the cookie jar and said "normally no but there were none ready". No apology and wasn't allowed to exchange it (didn't want to wait any longer anyways). The sandwich preparation area could have used a wipe down and there was a cup of trash sitting in front of the cashier which they continued to overlook until I requested that they put it in the trash. I find it unusual that this is the only place in the casino complex that does not offer a military discount but if you speak to the right person they will give you a senior discount. Thank you for your help and to keep this person from getting into trouble I will not mention their name but I do thank them. I went with the Reuben and fries to keep it simple. The Reuben was good and fries hot as all food is cooked once you order it so no worries of getting some wrapped up sandwich under a warmer. For the price I paid it was a good size sandwich and a good Reuben. Not the best but it is one of the better Reubens I have had in this area. The bread was toasted nicely and not overcooked as some places tend to do. Overall if you are in the casino and yes I said in the casino as that is the only entrance to this establishment it is a good place to grab a bite. I'm writing this review hoping for a major improvement from Morty's. If I could give less than one star, that would make me feel better--in addition to those who waiting as long as I did. Let me first start with the fact that they had three employees at the cash registers who all stood there appearing to be ready to take orders. Only one [of those three] employee was available to take orders. (Mind you, there was a line of at least 12 people!) There was an employee counting her register right in front of the customers. She ignored many people asking if she was taking customers--gave a dirty glance, and would continue counting each individual coin out of the register. How is this NOT a risk to the company? Risk of her counting the register out in the open to where she could be of harm and a risk to the reputation/customer service. Finally after confusedly hovering at the registers for five minutes (still with three employees standing behind the counter)--where no one even acknowledged to direct customers and say a simple, "Someone will be right with you. Thank you for your patience," I ordered. I ordered ONE sandwich. I sat there for 38 minutes for one sandwich to be delivered to my table. This was after nine other carry out orders received their food first. When I finally took a bit, the bread was soggy. There were FOUR people standing at the food counter assembling the food. How could they have four able-bodied people, but the service be this slow? For management, I wish you these proposals to your staff: 1. Basic customer service training 101 2. Adherence to proper money handling--for security measures. 3. Time effectiveness. There is no reason for anyone to think that assembling a sandwich should take over 30 minutes. 4. Proper food handling. I noticed some people not even wearing gloves who would walk over to the food counter area. I had heard so many great things regarding Morty's. I was told that they were pricey but the food was good. Plus, I don't mind paying for a good meal. That was not the case here. Me and my husband got Reubens. My corn beef was so fatty I could not eat it. There was hardly any sauerkraut or swiss cheese on either sandwich. Plus, we had to wait almost 30 minutes. By the time our food got to us my sister had already finished hers. Unless I make them at home, I haven't had a good Reuben since I worked at a delicatessen in the 80's.
