Stopped in for supper after Whale Watching. Spacious, clean, fast and friendly service. Something told me to try Chowder on this trip to Cape Breton and I was not disappointed with my choice. It was delicious! My husband had the lasagna and said it was very good. read more

Stopped for lunch on our way to Cheticamp. Service was great. We both ordered the Caesar salad and the fish sandwich. Both were excellent. Great flavor and generous portions. Creamy Cole slaw and fresh cut crispy fries. I would go here again. read more

This was a great meal. My boyfriend had the mussels, and the burger. He was just so happy! He keeps raving about the mussels and the broth. They have gf buns. I had the turkey club and it was not lunch meat like I expected, chunks of real turkey! Really great gluten free bread. It was too much food me with all the bread (basically 4 pieces of full sized bread). If get back here I would order it again but just have them put it in 2 pieces. I enjoyed it immensely. The fries are NOT in a dedicated fryer and are contaminated, but they can sub for mashed potatoes and they're darn good! Great waitstaff! read more

Morrison's is a total delight! We had no idea what to expect when we went in, but we were hungry and ready for a good meal. They did not disappoint! We were seated quickly in a cute booth in the middle of the restaurant. There is so much natural light everywhere - very bright and welcoming! The restaurant was renovated in 2019 and it looks great - lots of natural wood and little industrial touches make it both homey and trendy. I loved some of the paraphernalia on the walls - see photo :) Our server was friendly and quick. Her timing was great. We ordered drinks and we both got the chicken club with fries. The club was amazing!! Thick pieces of fresh chicken breast, crispy lettuce, perfectly cooked bacon, yummy tomatoes, mayonnaise. The best part was the sandwich was served on HOMEMADE bread!! So delicious! The fries were great as well - pub style. One thing to know: the portions are HUGE. My friend and I could have certainly shared one sandwich. We ended up packing half our meals to go and eating them on a hike later. Just as delicious the second time around. Definitely make a stop here when you're passing through for some delicious fresh food and welcoming ambiance. read more

Morrison's was one of the best meals we had along the Cabot Trail. We had just finished a half-day kayak tour from South Harbour over toward White Point, so we were both exhausted and ready for a good late lunch. Morrison's is so perfectly located along the Cabot Trail, right at a point on Highway 30 where there's a three-way intersection with Bay St. Lawrence Road. It has ample parking, and boy do they need it. We visited on a weekday in August and the parking lot was completely packed. We got on the wait list, but we only had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. This old historic building is completely renovated inside and out, and I'll say we were a bit surprised at how nicely the interior was done. The layout is great, and all the tables and booths are really well-done. The wait staff here is on top of their game, too. Very little waiting for menus and grabbing your drink order quickly. After all that work in the kayaks, we were very happy to find a pretty good local craft brew selection. Nothing quite like a good, cold IPA or lager after burning all those calories paddling. The menu isn't overly complicated here, and they serve a great mix of local seafood along with things like burgers and chicken. I needed a protein reload, so I went with the "Chicken Burger." In all honesty, that was one of the very best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It was buttermilk breaded, and not heavily breaded. It was fried just right, too. I could tell the bun was made in-house, and I did opt out of the bacon. The chipotle mayo was a great compliment, and I thought the coleslaw was pretty good. My wife also thoroughly enjoyed her meal here as well. Morrison's is a great stop along the Cabot Trail, and I would highly recommend it. It seemed to be very popular with families, too. If you stop here for a meal, you should also check out the North Highlands Community Museum which is right next door. read more

There are very few places to eat along the Cabot trail, except in Pleasant Valley and Ingonish. Morrison's, when the trail turns west on the south side, is perfectly located. We had dinner that featured good service, good beer and wine selections (not fancy, but good), and delicious seafood and burgers. Fairly plain decor, but clean and welcoming. read more

What a great find! We stopped in for a bite after hiking the Cape Breton Skyline Trail. Service was fantastic!!! I wish I could share his name, but we didn't catch it. He was so personable and helpful. Food was at our table quickly even though they had a pretty full restaurant. Large portions and all the food was delicious! Really good Arnold Palmers for drinking. Thank you for a nice and unexpected experience . read more

We ended up here because the local pizza place was closed...a stroke of good fortune! Great seafood dinners; sweet scallops, unusually tasty shrimp and the pan-fried haddock was so much better than deep fried. Excellent garlic mash, and the coconut cream pie was as good as I've ever had...and I've had a lot! Try a delicious local Angus IPA. YOU WON't come away disappointed...or hungry! Highly recommended read more

After driving around the northern part of beautiful Cape Breton Island on a rainy, mid-October day, my husband and I stopped in near closing time and both ordered the Aspy Burger. Our waiter/ server was a nice young man , who was likely tired, but also honest and patient as we asked questions about the menu . We appreciated his honesty when he said the onion rings were not house- made and likely to us, not worth the up charge. We got the beans instead which were tasty, as were the burgers, which were on homemade buns! The server proudly told us his brother made the buns and the dessert too. I asked what was for dessert and he said," coconut cream pie- and it's awesome!" Well, it was, and is basically the reason I am writing this review and still thinking about that delicious pie- one month later and nearly 1800 miles away! read more
