Gave out suggestions that were just spot on....had the delicious peach, apple, cherry pies...and was surprised with a complimentary pecan...which sent us over the edge! I wasn't sure what to expect with this. I'd had hostess fruit pies as a kid, but this is another whole level (actually several levels). First off, the guys working the trailer (one of which was the owner) were as friendly and helpful as could be. Also very patient with us as we're tried to figure out what to order. We ended up trying the chicken pot pie, blackberry, cherry, coconut cream, and pecan. The fruit pies we warmed up for about 20 seconds in microwave and the meat pie a little longer. The chicken pot pie was better than any chicken pot pie I've had in a restaurant. The filling was super flavorful. All had lots of filling. The fruit pies have a slight glaze on them. Of the fruit pies blackberry was my favorite, but all were great. On our way out of town we stopped by to get some to take home. Got more chicken pot pie, an empanada (beef with Mexican type fillings), a Mediterranean (chicken with Greek type additions), and the Cajun one (natchitoches - beef with Cajun flavoring). Again all were good. Chicken pot pie remained my favorite. Reheating in microwave after refrigerating made the crust soggy, need to ask how best to reheat). Also tried a variety of fruit pies. All good, blackberry still our favorite. I'd say they run out of meat pies pretty early on Saturday. We were there a little after 9 and there were few left. We are big fans. So glad I saw this place on a blog and came to try it out while I was in town! The best fried pies! The crust was so flaky, buttery and held together perfectly. Upon arriving the worker mentioned he was out of pie crust to make more pies and told me what flavors was left. Thankfully they had all of the pies I wanted to try still available. Even snagged the last cherry pie. The person who helped me was so nice. He had asked if I had a punch card and I told him I was actually just visiting and still gave me a punch card and said to save it for the next time I was in town. This place is so good! I'm so happy I bought a home in Royal so I can come here everyday! Their empanada meat pie is legit. It's chicken with jalapeño black olives cheese and garlic. Sooo much flavor! The first bite is heavenly! Their crust is so light crispy and airy. I could fry anything in that crust including Adobo rice and spam musubi. Don't take my notes! I have family nearby and they have simply been raving about these fried pies for a year or so. I'd stopped by once before while in-town, but they weren't open. They are closed on Sunday and Monday and I am told they sometimes close early, if the pies run out for the day. It's a food truck, but they also have a couple of picnic tables set up, if you want to eat in the parking lot. The pies are literally empanadas. There are many savory and sweet options available. We were only visiting but went here the day before we left and got the Natchitoches, empanada, enchilada, German chocolate, oatmeal cream, and pecan cheesecake pies. They were all amazing. Our favorites were the Natchitoches and empanada and the oatmeal cream and pecan cheesecake. It was so delicious we visited again this morning before driving out of town. We got there about 1pm and they were already sold out of several flavors so word of advice...go early! They make the pies same day and don't sell day old pies so if you want a specific flavor, you may be out of luck if you get there too late in the day. We tried four pies - chicken empanada, chocolate, pecan cheesecake and cherry cheesecake. Normally I don't like fruit pie but this cherry cheesecake fried pie was a game changer. I wish I had another one right now. It was awesome. The chicken empanada was packed with flavor. When she told me it had golden raisins in it, she lost me. BUT we got it anyway and I'm so glad we did because it was shockingly good. The pie had layers of flavor. Cheesy savory goodness with salty chicken and olives and then a light sweetness at the end. This place is a must stop when in Hot Springs. We went two days in a row. Our only disappointment was that they sold out of savory pies the second day before we got there! The Lemon and Blackberry pies were fantastic. The Greek and Chicken Pot pie were also so good. They are not at all greasy as you might expect which shows they take care to use clean, fresh high quality oil to fry them. The couple that runs the place are charming and kind and add to the experience. To die for! I am a self-proclaimed "pie snob". It's hard not to be skeptical of other's pies when you grow up in a family of exceptional cooks and bakers, so a 5 star rating for Morrison's Fried Pies from me is really saying something. I judge all pies, fried or traditional, by the crust first and foremost. The fillings are secondary in my book. Morrison's does not disappoint! The crust is flaky and delicious and holds its own to the fillings. It was about 30 minutes before closing time, so I scooped up the last handful of fried pies available that day, apricot and peach. Not my favorite flavors personally, but beggars can't be choosers! Get there early before they sell out, and get there really early if you are choosy about your fillings. We have driven by this place many times, but after reading reviews on the Web recently, I called and placed an order for 2 Natchitoches meat pies( we are from Louisiana and lived in Natchitoches while attending college, and have eaten the original pies many times). To us, Morrison's pies are a step up from the original with more ingredients and thus, more flavor. The crust is absolutely the best we have ever eaten! Also, considering I am 81 yrs old, I have eaten a fair number of meat pies....loved these. Also had the apricot pies....also fantastic with loads of home made filling.
