I can't say enough amazing things about this company. I originally submitted an application to the…read moreCity of Houston for a simple window repair prior to enlisting any assistance from AMB Architects. I immediately ran into issues with a simple window repair permit that stretched from a one-stop review (7-14day) to over 3mos of continued rejections from the city with no discussions or understanding of what they needed. I understand that Covid has made it particularly difficult for City of Houston staff, but I was hung up on by a city reviewer at the beginning for asking for clarification on the rejection notice he had sent. We were on the phone for less than 1minute before he got tired of our call and hung up saying to just follow the comments in the online portal - no communication, no guidance. Nothing. We struggled for quite a bit longer desperately needing this repair permit to be approved so we could move to install. Just when we were about to give up, I found Jimmy at AMB Architects. We spent 5 minutes on the phone and he was on the task. He looked up our permit, told us what revisions were needed and within weeks, we had approval on hand. Jimmy was not only professional to work with, but he was super responsive. He always communicated well, giving updates and looking for ways to keep the project in budget - rates were very reasonable! I'm very thankful that we found him and AMB Architects to get us through the City reviews. Without them, we would not have gotten our project approved and it would have continued for our business to suffer consequences. I highly recommend them! As a person who has dealt with tons of construction, architecture, and others involving build outs, suffering through liens and subcons not getting paid, or contractors not following proper City requirements. We won't think twice about calling this team first for any future projects.

On bigger projects, I met with Margaret and Bill privately and we charted a course. CDI helped navigate the constant headaches of working with city permits, third-party vendors and my landlords that would have cost me a fortune if not for their stewardship. I do see another review that was negative and I do understand that posters frustration with the third party vendors. I have never had a project that went perfectly on time, but it was not the fault of CDI. If you have been in business for a long time you know that "things happen" and I know if an issue came up, CDI was available and helped me work through the issue. I am grateful for them.

However, the project absolutely turn into a a total disaster in terms of time management and quality. Revisions were probably reviewed by student interns and missed many points, we kept going back and forth. From the start to finish for a 2400SF space is about 7 whole months! Can you believe it?!! Not only that, Margaret hired an engineering team who does not know what they are doing, and nearly killed our project by imposing the strictest standards ever such as ridiculous specs of HVAC system, and the engineer lead person even refuse to talk to us, the project owner. In the end, we had to hire another engineer team to start from scratch after paid them thousands of dollars. This review serves of a purpose: do not let more small businesses become victim again of their incompetence. Imagine you are a small business owner and hired this firm, their service will probably cost you tens of thousands of dollars on delays if you had to pay your rent in that time.
